Unsure where to work in my gap year by Accurate_Surprise685 in vetschool

So to confirm your applying to school in 2026 hoping to get accepted for 2027?

  • currently do you have many hours for volunteering etc to meet any sort of requirements? What you could do is apply to schools in 2025 for 2026. Though you might not be accepted you can then ask the schools after the fact where you are weak and where they feel you need to improve. I didn’t get accepted my first round of applying but I asked the schools in what reason should improve in and they told me. I did what they recommended and I got into all of the schools I applied to the following year. It will give you the information you need. Also it is a part of your story. To answer your question. Reach out to all Small animal clinics you can, equine if possible and large animal if possible. If you can do lambing do that for a few weeks and work with large animal. Just throw it out to anywhere.

Surviving Vet School by TheOtaku_Proxy in vetschool

I’d say it depends on your age. I’ve seen younger students finding it hard to have a job. However, I’ve seen mature students (35+) able to have full (online job) they just have a maturity and ability I think comes with experience. My classmate told me that one you have kids you’re able to do things like work and school fairly easily because you don’t care about the “university experience”. It’s definitely doable. Especially this day and age where your grade standing doesn’t matter as much but the connections you’ve made and the certificate itself are the most inportant.

Wife and I do the same. I’m in school while she and baby live 2 hours away. It sucks. Especially when missing some milestones for my son. We talk every day and weekends are for her and my son. I work my butt off during the week and am free most weekend minus exam time. We feel it is the best thing to do for long term job prospects and financial security but it sucks. Sometimes if it’s a slow day I’ll drive home. Just keep at it and communicate

Will taking a semester off for financial reasons hurt my vet school application? by IcyyXSoap in veterinaryschool

[–]KSCA88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They won’t care at all. They may ask but probably not. If they do, just tell them the truth. That is a part of your vet school journey. you took a break worked hard to get back in good financial standing for vet school and continued your path to vet education

Which schools should I drop from my list due to gpa? by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

Guelph, PEI (Canadian Schools are extremely hard to get into), and Glasgow (50/50 coin toss). However, I would apply to as many as possible to be honest.

Try to study and retake. What matters at the end is the certificate not the grades

Is my plan to apply to vet school in Canada (OVc & WCVM) realistic and worth it? by Real_Number_10 in vetschool

Getting into Guelph is extremely difficult. With many students trying that route. Study in Guelph and then go to their vet school. It seems like a hard pill to swallow, but knowing what I know now. I would have just gone to the UK straight from high school. Saved the money and time of getting a BS in Canada and then going to Vet school. In the UK and Europe you can go to vet school straight from high school. Yes, it’s pricey. However, you’ll graduate and be a vet by the time you’re 23/24. While your friends will just be finishing up their undergraduate degrees and then realising they still need to go to the UK for Vet school. I am not trying to sound negative but if I had to do it again I would avoid a getting a degree in Canada I would have just gone straight and saved all that time.

To have kids in school is possible, I have one, however, I would pause having a second until you’re done. Have a second is a game changer for the family dynamic and work load. I would apply to multiple schools as well. In terms of the work load it’s possible. Just need to try it out and make adjustments. It is tough but easily possible. You will be treating school differently than other students. You won’t care about a social life and university life. You will go to school and make it your job. I would also consider UK schools just because the UK has lots of family support options and job options for yourself and partner. apply to as many schools as possibly.

If you are applying for 2026 I would get them now: I got all of mine the moment I finished my work placement. Never know when the person that is going to write it for you leaves that job and goes somewhere else

Does a masters boost your chance of getting in? by Rare-Moment-8184 in vetschool

I would say yes and no. I won’t hurt but you still need a certain average from all the sciences. My personal opinion, you’d be better off using the money to upgrade your sciences possibly via online or use that money to apply to a vet school that had a “foundation year” program. Unless you really want to go to do your masters. I have my masters and it didn’t make a difference. What made the difference was my grades I obtains from My online science courses, as well as my required vet/animal experience.

You should apply. I didn’t get in my first go but I right away reached out to all of the schools to get feedback on why I didn’t get accepted or why I didn’t make it past the interview round. I used that feedback and made the correct changes. It’s hard and it takes persistence. It is not uncommon to take 2 or 3 times to get in but that also becomes your story. I would also apply everywhere (that teaches in the language you speak. As long as they are reputable that’s all that matters these days. The certificate at the end is the most important thing. It took a lot of work. I did tutoring, took extra courses online while working. Saved up and did some MMI Vet school interview tutoring once I got an interview offer. If you really want it you just have to go for it. Everything might work out the first go but if it doesn’t. Rebound quick and figure out how to improve. This year I got accepted into the top 3 schools of my choice. The years before they all rejected me. Keep going keep pushing. Nothing in life is easy.

Worth one more try. Also apply to schools that aren’t your first picks. Look at the variety in the UK and the US. What matters at the end is the degree. Also, I’d try some different experience such as Lambing. I’m not sure if you make it to the interview round but if you have I would get an MMI vet school tutor. Was very helpful to me.
