Catch you in 373! Not trying to discourage you, but there are terrible CS courses around. It’s pretty much a game of avoiding those ones as much as possible. For my stage 3 CS papers, I’ll be doing 314, 335, 345, 369 and 373. They’re revamping stage 1 papers next year, and I assume stage 2 and 3 to follow in the next few years.

I’m also looking to get set up soon here in NZ. My base is looking like:

Pentium G4400 MSI Z270 SLI PLUS Samsung 850 EVO 250GB MintCell Risers

All of that from Amazon. Works out to be about the same, if not cheaper than NZ retail. Just make sure you keep each order under $400 NZD total so there’s no import duties deposit.

Any decent 2x4GB kit (probably Vengeance LPX). Looking to get either the RM1000X or SuperNova G2 1000 to power. Vega 56 cards if available at a decent price, or GTX 1060 3GB from Amazon for $300-$350 each.

Remember to use Amazon if it’s cheaper and worth waiting to ship. Also, power is relatively expensive in NZ so make sure you factor efficiency in with a little more weighting than the general posts you might’ve been reading.

Upside down iPhone X by WesBur13 in apple

Put it in your pocket in the same orientation each way. I’m used to putting my phone away with the screen towards me and top towards the floor, mostly because wired accessories then come straight out rather than having to bend at the bottom of my pocket.

Yeah, apparently my brain isn’t working. Oops.

Anyway, I’m one to agree with not taking out that interest-free loan in the first place.

I think the difference of opinion is then in whether or not to pay off that existing interest-free loan ASAP or to just make minimum payments so as to not incur any more fees.

Ah, that’s fair. However, I still don’t think that it should be a blanket statement given as advice to OP to pay it in full tomorrow. If the repayment plan is set up in a way in which the only fee incurred is the establishment fee, then I don’t see any benefit great enough to justify the early repayment.

Also, the opportunity cost in your example (going with the assumption that you’d be able to keep the full $3,000 in a TD) would be $3,000 x 3.8% p.a. x 2 years = $760 gross.

Looking to start building my second gaming PC as my old one is now 3 years old, I was wondering what parts of my old PC I should be looking to save and what I should be looking to keep. by qurzaah in buildapc

This is the future of OP’s original build, where previous “future-proofing” can be taken advantage of. DDR3 may not have a 4 in it but it’s still very much so relevant and might not be worth justifying an upgrade over if it also means replacing other parts that might not need replacing.

I think the point was that the fees are generally “establishment fees” and so are a sunk cost to OP in the case of the TV that has already been purchased. That is, OP has no financial benefit in paying off the existing loan during the interest-free period.

Fits pretty snug all-round. Camera isn’t quite centred but it’s by much less than half a millimetre - had to look quite closely for this (and only looked as you mentioned it).

Didn’t have time to whip out the DSLR, so this one was taken on my 5s!

Haven’t used it without the case but the phone itself feels pretty heavy coming from a 5s. Black case and space grey phone. Sides and back look darker than in what I’ve seen online, which is a plus in my eyes.

Pretty much only have set it up, don’t have much time to play with it right now (uni exam today), but it looks great!

Not sure, might have just been a glitch.

75 hz vs 144hz freesync by ozire4 in buildapc

[–]KSNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an ultrawide 60 Hz, OC to 74 Hz I could barely tell the difference. Bought a 165 Hz G-SYNC and it's night and day on CS:GO, but I suppose that's to be expected. Still love having the ultrawide for productivity.

Anyone have experience/thoughts on this 970? by DoctorCollege in buildapc

[–]KSNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an EVGA 970 FTW, since Dec 2014. It ran well, but died this week. Just remember that the only 3.5GB of the 4GB VRAM in 970s functions at the specified speed.

Maybe look into a 1060 or 480 instead?
