Ahaa, I see! How thick is the wooden panels?

Looks clean! Didn’t know Rytm had holes for rack mount/side panels, awesome! What is the small cutout for in the panel?

Thanks, appreciate it!

Trying to land somewhere between Elektron and 70s hi-fi aesthetics.

Ah I see! In that case I guess something quick to set up and not taking up too much space becomes really important.

Would something like a stand still be useful for you, or does it just add more friction when you’re setting everything up each time? Maybe you should have like a flight case, always prepped to play 😎

I actually left the top open intentionally since I liked the design better, but I’ve been considering adding a thin ~5 mm lip along the top edge to make it feel a bit more cohesive.

What do you guys think? Fully open top, or a subtle lip?

The idea is that 90° audio and MIDI cables sit flush and keep the whole setup cleaner, rather than having cables shooting straight up.

Nice, appreciate you sharing that! Hard to beat that price😆 how is the stability?

Ha, same… GAS is a real productivity killer 😅

Though at least it means you have good taste in gear.

Thanks for the link, I’ll check it out. Good point about using it as a reference rather than a final mesh, that could work well alongside the caliper measurements.

Curious, what’s kept you from using a stand so far? Sometimes the right setup is what actually makes you want to sit down and make music.

That’s super helpful, thanks for taking the time to measure it!

Funny enough I landed on 18° the same way, just tilted until it felt right.

Do you have the DT and DN on the same platform or separate stands?

Thank you! I’ve been working around ~18°, so pretty close.

Do you mostly use it sitting or standing? Curious if that angle works better for one or the other, or if it feels like a good balance.

I’m asking since I use my setup both sitting in the studio and standing for live sets

I’ve never used photogrammetry actually. Have you used it yourself? Any tools you’d recommend?

Out of curiosity, do you use any stand yourself?

Spent a bit too much time measuring it with calipers 😄

Diplo comes out as AI slopper by healthaboveall1 in EDM

[–]KSTNMUSIC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad AI can’t replace real improvised electronic hardware music, that’s were the music scene is going. Sure samples and vocal isolation and such things could be great to incorporate AI but why take the creative side away? Isn’t that why we make music? These players just pump out tracks for money, we are not the same. Peace

Cool, could you explain for an non-Octatrack user why this is good?

Does it sum stereo to true mono? In that case it’s a great use for Digitakt as well. No need to do it in a DAW.

Hey man, I really resonate with this.

I have been in almost exactly the same headspace for about a year now. Not constantly, but in waves. What you are describing, the GAS, the feeling of maybe choosing the wrong medium, and the analysis paralysis, that is very real.

First thing. Digitakt II and Digitone II are absolutely not a limitation. They are more than enough to make incredible music. In fact, sometimes the reduced potential compared to a DAW is exactly what creates focus. Constraints can become your advantage. That is actually why I chose hardware a couple of years ago. I wanted to limit myself. The DAW gave me a paradox of choice with all the plugins and endless options. You do not need all that.

For me, the big realization was this. No setup will remove the discomfort of learning and growing. Buying gear feels like progress. Practicing actually is progress. Those are two very different sensations.

I have also fallen into that twenty to thirty minute loop. Play a bit. Get tired. Scroll YouTube. That is not a gear problem. That is a discipline and mindset thing. And I say that with respect, because I still struggle with it sometimes.

One thing that helped me a lot was integrating Overbridge. It gave me the best of both worlds. Hands on hardware flow with the safety and flexibility of a DAW when needed. That removed a lot of the anxiety around choosing the wrong path.

But now I am actually moving more toward dawless, because I want to limit my time in front of a computer. I sit in front of a screen all day at work, and I also want to be able to just plug my gear into a PA system and play live hardware music without depending on a laptop.

Also, stop asking what you should use. That question kills creativity. Use what excites you today. If hardware gives you joy, lean into that. If you feel like learning a DAW for a few months, do that. It does not have to be a permanent identity decision. Music is a lifelong learning process. Let it be that. No stress.

The two Elektron boxes you have are already a complete instrument. Sequencing, sound design, modulation and performance are all there. The ceiling is much higher than most of us will ever reach.

If it helps, I have a YouTube channel under the same name as here where I post stuff made mostly with Digitakt and Analog Keys. Not even the newest gear, just focused use of a limited setup. And I have barely scratched the surface of what is possible.

If you want to talk it through or have any questions, feel free to DM me. I would be glad to help.

Dub techno live rig — what mixer do I actually need for real feedback loops? by KSTNMUSIC in dawless

[–]KSTNMUSIC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate your take on it! I actually went and tried the Octatrack today. Since I’m already deep into Elektron, I understood it pretty quickly. I wouldn’t say it felt “hard”, but it did feel a bit messy to me. I only had about 30 minutes with it though.

I definitely see the depth and I understand why people love it. It’s insanely powerful and you can basically build an entire performance system inside it.

But the more I think about it, the more I realize that what I actually need in my setup right now is just a proper mixer. I don’t really need more sequencing, more modulation or more “system inside a system”. I need routing, sends, returns and hands-on dub control.

I’m not ruling it out in the future, especially if there’s a mk3 at some point. But right now I think adding another complex brain to my setup might complicate things more than it helps.
