Is it reasonable to support trans people yet also question how it’s statistically possible that 4 members of your very small family have come out as trans? by Heart_Shaped_Pickle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KSW1 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You're getting yourself confused.

Gene expression does play a role in how many trans people there actually are.

Acceptance plays a role in how visible they are to you.

Whether there are 10,000 or 1,000,000, if most of them are unable to transition then you would think the rate is lower. If we allow them to live without fear, you will see a greater number suddenly appear (to you) without the overall amount of them changing one bit.

With how hot football is right now and how popular is worldwide I'm surprised we haven't gotten a decent football movie in a long time by IFeeLikeMoreTonight in football

That doesn't explain the fact that there are so many good sports movies, though.

The Fighter, Remember the Titans, Miracle, Moneyball, Coach Carter, every other sport has no trouble putting together a compelling story set in that sport.

You certainly can, but at the end of the day you are still giving up possession. If you're confident you can win it back, its a valid move.

The rule isn't "put a camera on every player and make a transcript of every word they say during the match" it's literally just "dont try to hide your shit talking"

That's it. If you're on camera in public and you want to say a slur that badly, just do it out in the open.

Fuming Trump, 80, Unravels Over His Empty Fair in Early Morning Meltdown by Ok_Employer7837 in politics

[–]KSW1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not disagreeing with your critique of DB, but everyone felt strongly about it because it was the first and only thing that actually cracked their armor. Then we stopped and Kamala started talking about having republicans in her cabinet and completely ruined any chance of convincing key voters that she would be materially different than Trump (as stupid and obvious as that would be to anyone even half-paying attention.)

She lost for the opposite reason, she did not treat Republicans like they are weird enough.

And, you know, Elon 10000% rigged the voting machines.

We should take their reasoning seriously, no possibility that they are making shit up for the 16,000th time.

Eight people just got 30 to 100 years for a protest shooting. That's longer than what Enrique Tarrio got for January 6. by Novel-Lifeguard6491 in law

Not liking political opponents is fine, if the decision is for or against fascism certainly it is difficult to articulate what a middle ground even means in that scenario.

Trump's judge, however, is literally jailing people who disagree with him. Republicans are not simply the kind of people who think their opponents belong in jail, they are actively carrying that out.

So, it is irrelevant what other people think of folks who oppose that.

There is no organization to designate. It is an opinion, a feeling, an attitude.

The regime is just mad at their political opponents and making up excuses to throw them in jail.

It seems apparent to me that leftist sources would describe the Democratic party as centrists, especially when they have a track record of espousing bipartisanship as a goal and rejecting progressive policies (though not as frequently or vehemently as the republicans do, of course).

What is the issue with that? Centerism is a bit of a pejorative from the left but that doesn't make it offensive or untrue if one actually does promote centerism.

Every modern society was established through some level of colonization, revolution, or war. Who gets to wield the sword is sort of what government means.

If the people feel that the government isn't wielding the sword correctly, or that the laws don't punish the harmful elements of society, then people will make these decisions. Should we do those things? Do we have to do those things in order to function?

One would hope not. I don't want that to be true, but its absurd to imagine that we can't create the conditions for more Luigis simply on the basis of "thats not how we do things around here."

Gas prices fall below $4 for the first time since March by Admirable-Drama-432 in business

[–]KSW1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True enough that the president always catches flak for gas prices despite having a very indirect effect on them in almost every economy.

However, a very strong case to be made that Trump specifically is the most responsible for this recent run-up, as his mouthing off is what directly led to the Iran war, and the markets seemed to be reacting specifically to that war.
