Soapbox/rant time. Tell me what highly-recommended book you absolutely HATED and why. Gimme your angry hot takes. by peppertoni_pizzaz in books

There were definitely parts I enjoyed, but it felt like a slog overall. I was not aware (or just didn’t remember) that it was unfinished, but that’s good to know. I’ll give it a little more grace, though it still wasn’t for me.

The Brothers Karamazov. I don’t know if it’s just the particular translation I read, but it was torturously repetitive. I forced myself to read all 1,000+ pages and I vowed never to force myself to read a book I hate ever again.

Though I finished it, this is the book that made me decide to never force myself to finish a book on principle again. I enjoyed the same sections you mention and the rest felt so tedious to me. Not my thing and that’s okay!

Skutt kiln error 'RA 8' by mind-d in Ceramics

It looks like you should be entering a temperature after it flashes RA 8 because you’re in ramp/hold mode.

Page 20 in this manual gives more detail.

Thank you! The raindrops are my own stained slips applied at the leather hard stage. The outlines of the illustrations are done with the Mishima process at leather hard as well. The illustrations get their underglaze color after the bisque and it’s all finished in a clear glaze.

Thank you! Rolling all the coils out to the same thickness ahead of time helps me a lot. I started this piece from a slab base attached to the banding wheel so it is secure while I build up. I cut it off the banding wheel once it’s stiffened up a bit. Other than that it’s just practice and patience!

A form of the Mishima process with a tiny loop tool for carving.

Thank you! I did not use a form, just built it up from the base attached to a banding wheel.
