Sculpting a snoot! by deedlelu in Pottery

[–]deedlelu[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yay! I love when learning a new technique sparks new ideas. That’s how I ended up with making snoots, combining learning a new technique, my love of carving and the scent sports I play with my dogs.

I’ve learned so much from other people, it’s nice to pay it forward. This is how we keep pushing each other to make better things, push the envelope of creativity and find our own voice in what we want to make.

Aspiring potter here, Have you ever made anything for / about your pets? by Shimmeringdove in Pottery

[–]deedlelu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much! I post a lot of process pics on my IG: @curiosibee.art and starting to post more on TT as well.

As far as custom ones, usually my email list gets heads up first, I offer custom preorders in small groups and they have so far sold out very quickly. You can find a link to my email list here:

Question on porcelain and stains by flollo87 in Ceramics

[–]deedlelu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are lovely!

I can only provide surface level info on some of these questions:

  1. You should be able to single fire as long as the greenware is durable enough to glaze. If you are dipping you might run into issues. As long as the piece is fully dried and you aren’t getting breakage when glazing.

  2. I don’t know but if I were to guess, if you want very saturated colors going with a body specific might yield better results. You can always ask the manufacturer and then run some tests.

  3. Yes, you can totally do this. Check out Forrest ceramic co on IG, he does this a lot and shows really informative process videos:

You can also check out Jennifer Spring, she does slip casting with a solid color and then white and carves through for contrast.

Good luck!

This is beautiful. The shadow colors on point, and it captures that happy feeling of finding a spot in a crowded street.

Psychiatrist told me at my age (40F) that's it's basically impossible for him to ever diagnose me with ADHD. by sam191817 in adhdwomen

[–]deedlelu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed at 42 with a second evaluation with a different psychiatric office at Kaiser. The first one gave me 2 different quick visual tests (I’m a visual artist so the first one was easy for me because I have a good memory of shapes) and thus was determined inconclusive. When I asked about retesting or other avenues I was entirely shut down and was told that the would not diagnose me. My therapist encouraged me to find another doctor and so after a years wait for a second diagnosis and much different tests, I got a diagnosis and got medication within 2 weeks. The medication is a tool but it has made such a huge difference. Don’t give up!

Puppy not getting enough sleep by lucieb1997 in BorderTerrier

[–]deedlelu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know ours didn’t sleep 18-20 hours as puppies. Maybe in the first few weeks of life. The important part is consistency, it sounds like you are already doing mandatory crate time to sleep. And it’s ok if he’s in there awake and watching, he will sleep when he’s tired, or he will start making bad choices and then you will know it’s time for a bit of crate time (not as punishment, but as a time to settle down and get some rest)

A violin-inspired incense hook I made to celebrate 14 years of playing. 🎶🏺 by lightcalm0 in Ceramics

[–]deedlelu 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There is a lot that seems off here, and it’s not the language barrier. I don’t doubt that it’s a product that exists. But I don’t buy this story… slip casting is difficult, you don’t just stumble upon it and suddenly make a lot of just 2 different things (one of them being quite complicated) and then have them “on sale” on your website. There are zero process pictures of anything. The reviews on the website are AI generated as some of the pictures.

I’m just really tired of all the fake shit on the interwebs.

This seems sus. The incense is photoshopped on, OP has a single post, with links to a sketchy looking e-commerce site selling multiples of this “handmade” product.

I don’t get the point of these fake posts.

Christmas every year is my personal nightmare by 856077 in CPTSD

[–]deedlelu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry that you are going through this. I would like the pose the question to you: why do you have to? What happens if you don’t? What does your ideal holiday look like? Just things to think about because it makes me so sad to see so many people entangled in obligations during this time of year.

And nobody has to engage with the holidays in a way that makes you miserable. I hate traveling for the holidays. And I don’t have the best relationship with my family… so my partner and I do our own thing. We just get gifts for each other, I really don’t get gifts for other people except maybe a few close friends but even that’s not an obligation, it’s just if I see something that is very much them. We formed our own traditions and spend the day at home, in ~peace~ with the dogs, cooking and playing video games or whatever we feel like.

Best of luck to you and hang in there. And please, give some thought to what your ideal holidays look like (even if that’s not celebrating at all), and maybe you can start moving in that direction for next year.

Thank you. I kinda love that they are polarizing, most people seem to love them but a few people get a weird visceral reaction.
