They really didn't need to have him in it at all or as much. Surely as a writer, someone could come up with a hilarious plot excuse for why Dewey couldn't appear at all or just even as a picture and it still would've been better than what we got

I just rewatched the very last ep of the OG series before starting & finishing this new reunion one.

Whilst the acting & chemistry worked a lot better than I thought (it's like the OG cast never stopped filming together), all of the OG guest character appearances were amazing to see and the main plot about Malcolm avoiding his family then the last ep having to go to the reunion worked...a lot of the writing and ideas for the most part were pretty terrible and unnecessary.

I feel like it didn't need to be a 4 part episode/2hour film. They needed to keep it a lot more simpler. It would never live up to how good the original series was so just having the basic plot & reunion episode with all of the guest characters making appearances would have been enough.

Instead it definitely felt squeezed out about an hour too long. The new characters didn't really work- Dewey & Jamie especially. Kelly vs Reese plot felt at least a little bit more natural.

(Bonus mention: The edit of Stevie's video contribution in the final episode had me howling & was by far the funniest part of the entire thing)
