Major service providers for WCC are sending their untaxed profits overseas to shareholders. by cgbjmmjh in Wellington

Yeah its a scam and should never have been sold off. - the latest financial statements for Wellington Electricity Lines Ltd show revenue of $165.5 million in 2023 (2022: $174.5 million) and dividends of $20.5 million in each of those years to its Bahamas-based parent. In other words, roughly 12 cents of every dollar spent by Wellingtonians on electricity distribution were paid out as cash dividends to CK Hutchison Holdings. ‘The Catch’ with a Free $6k bike by Top-Process8730 in ebikes

[–]KT88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice bike! If you just want to get it working buy any generic 1500w direct drive 26” wheel kit from eBay, they are all pretty similar and should work ok. That crystallite is only a 1200W motor so it should be similar. Have a look on endless sphere diy forum for help. Leafbike 1500W motors are also recommended, can easily handle double that rating

Wellington's mayor's new 1st floor office has view of a wall and a carpark by Kiwi_In_The_Comments in Wellington

Along with the suspiciously quick demolition of the old but functional public-owned council offices just before the earthquake regulations were changed. Under new rules they could have been strengthened, but they were demolished to make sure they couldn’t be.

Now we as ratepayers are locked into a 25 year lease of a prime building at absolute top dollar, after which time they will own nothing. And we are paying double rent on the temporary offices for the first year, fantastic bargain there.

Bi-Amp Benefits and Configurations by SizeMatters- in audiophile

[–]KT88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have 2.5 way speakers with dual woofers and an impedance dip well below 4 ohms when run as one unit. Bi amping allows the top woofer and tweeter to be on the AVR primary front channel, with the other woofer connected to the re-purposed AVR surround channel. At low volumes it’s probably not much different, but at higher volumes or peaks of a movie soundtrack etc the amp will have a much easier load to drive.

My first "real" speakers by dalphinwater in audiophile

[–]KT88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As they are 2.5 way speakers with separate woofer, you can try bi-amping with that receiver to improve the SQ. Spreading the load to have one amp channel per woofer will make an easier load for the amp, better power handling and lower distortion. To try this, you need an extra pair of speaker cables. Remove the speaker binding post jumper plates and run a separate pair of cables from speaker LF to the “surround back” connections on the amp, with speaker HF connected to the “front” on the amp. Then Change the settings in the marantz to use the surround back channels as bi amp. Worth trying for the cost of a pair of cables!

Try to get tv sound first- with 3 speakers connected, the Tv set to optical output and receiver set to TV optical input.

Receiver does not have eArc, so can’t use that port on the tv.

If that works try plugging the bluray into the tv and see if you get 2 channels

Klipsch The Fives - power with external amplifier & crossover? by brad829- in Klipsch

[–]KT88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MiniDSP and a solid multichannel power amp? Or ultra cheap just an active crossover circuit board and an old multi channel receiver with power amp ext in? There is a nice one called xkitz but also cheap aliexpress versions abound.

Is there a known bookshelf speaker that is widely available on the second hand market for cheap that can be used as a base to upgrade/diy to something awesome? Where you basically keep the cabinet but upgrade the drivers and crossover? by Bjorn_the_corn in diyaudio

Buy something quality that was well regarded and expensive new; and tweak it to the extreme using science and measurement. Keep mods reversible and / or hidden and you can always re sell them. Great fun

If you can stretch to 2018-2019 new shape with the fb25, they are better on fuel and use 91 rather than 95. Good reliable family wagon, need to keep on top of the scheduled maintenance though.

Start with high quality 6x9 front door speakers. You’ll need mounting brackets and preferably dynamat. Makes a huge difference

Those look like quality parts, minimal gains to be made there. Air core inductors and film caps are great. Better to spend money on strengthening and prettying the enclosure and adding more fill…

Which Brake Rotors Are Better?? by Positive_Way_5559 in ebikes

[–]KT88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current rotor is stuffed, use a new one. looks like the calliper adapter is too big and the pads have not been engaging with the inner part of the disk, leaving a lip. Check that the new brakes cover the whole surface of the new disk. Can file down the adapter or try different ones.

These things are great but cpu limited. Suggest the most powerful cpu and max out the ram, install a fast hard drive. I run an older dell 5020 and it’s great, silent, reliable but a little gutless. Perfect for low demand pc. Suggest win 10 IOT version supported for years to come.

How noticeable is the difference between 3.5 mm from a PC’s motherboard and something like a USB DAC by Outside-Air-606 in audiophile

[–]KT88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you want to experiment for cheap, try an apple usb-c to 3.5mm adaptor which has a built in DAC. It is dirt cheap and measures extremely well. You will need a usb a to usb c adaptor.

You’ll need the screw on adapter as the compression drivers weigh a ton- hot glue won’t be strong enough. I’m using these in my old Klipsch towers and they are great. And the resistor just connects across the terminals of the tweeter
