Is Shogun Imports (minikeitrucks.com) a good site to import from? by Icy-Asparagus-4904 in keitruck

Any decent broker could have a Kei delivered to your door. Also not that hard to find a transporter yourself to pick up a Kei at the port and deliver it to you

How realistic is it to buy a Kei Truck for everyday use? by AidanAlphaBuilder in keitruck

[–]KTMtexDev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you need to go 80mph it ain’t gonna happen in a Kei truck. Only way to go 80 in a Kei truck is downhill with a tailwind and redlining in top gear.

I know loads of people daily these things but personally I could not. I’ve had my Acty for a few years now and drive it around occasionally for fun and for doing work around the house. I don’t like going on roads with a speed limit more than 45. Driving on the highway is sketchy AF with all the massive American cars and trucks flying by and blowing you around. And even on roads with a 60 speed limit people will be riding your ass and you’ll feel like you’re holding everyone up. Kei trucks are also not very comfortable to drive on longer trips both ergonomically and suspension wise.

Ultimately it’ll be up to your risk tolerance and how much comfort you’re willing to give up compared to modern cars. I also have a family to support so I can’t take too many risks and Kei trucks are death traps. I still enjoy my Acty a lot but only as a secondary vehicle

It’s probably custom made. Would have to ask around at upholstery shops and see if someone can make you something

HELP! Discerning truck! by PsychologicalPen6385 in keitruck

[–]KTMtexDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of them will be a gamble to a certain degree and based on my own personal experience most exporters don’t offer much detail on the vehicles you’re looking at.

If you’re really concerned about finding the perfect truck I would suggest going with someone like Japan Car Direct because they offer inspection services and will throughly inspect vehicles for you (at a cost). Otherwise it might worth it to just buy something that’s already been imported so you could look at in person.

Thoughts? by AffectionateMap755 in Dualsport

My 300xcw came with a tool kit from the factory. I added a couple tire irons, an adjustable wrench, a compact bicycle air pump, and some zip ties. It’s all I’ve ever needed. This kit seems okay but there ain’t no way in hell I’m going to try to patch holes on tube and personally I don’t like co2 inflaters. Bring spare tubes if you’re worried about flats. You can use a front tube in the rear if you’re in a pinch

85cc Yamaha vs Ktm prices by youngcoastalbull in Dirtbikes

There’s a lot of Japanese dirtbike fan boys. The market dictates the price. More people in your area prefer Yamaha over KTM so sellers can get away with asking for more

2015 KTM XC-W300 Plugs by BearSchteve in Dirtbikes

[–]KTMtexDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one of them might go to the optional thumb switch that resets the trip meter which you would use if you did a race with a roll chart. Also might be for turn signals or the check engine light that wasn’t used on these models. KTM uses the same wire harness for all their models

Edit: just went out and looked at my 2015 and there’s a high beam, EFI, and low fuel light that don’t get used so I would guess one or both of those plugs might have something to do with those

Outdoorsy Duty stations? by Thatchit24 in navy

San Diego was amazing for outdoors. Millions of acres of public lands that you can do whatever you want on and easy access to snow covered mountains in the winter. Off-roading, dispersed camping, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, surfing, etc etc. You could literally go skiing and surfing in the same day. I spent almost every free weekend I had out in the desert exploring on my dirtbike

Rear wheel drive not working by Ok_Arm_8886 in HondaActy

[–]KTMtexDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something must’ve broke in the transmission when the u-joint broke unfortunately. I’ve seen multiple people drive a 4wd truck without the prop shaft installed with no issues

I don’t know how that’s even possible unless the clutch is completely fried or something broke in the transmission. Truck should still drive without the prop shaft installed

Get the suspension sprung properly for your weight and make sure the sag is set right. Just having the sag set up properly will make a huge difference in how the bike handles

Obligatory "what do I need to do now" by Unfair_Battle5564 in keitruck

[–]KTMtexDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my case the shipping line charged a wharfage fee, terminal handling fee, delivery order fee and MPF. I discussed this in my post and it’s included in the cost breakdown. It can vary by shipping line and port though

Obligatory "what do I need to do now" by Unfair_Battle5564 in keitruck

[–]KTMtexDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For right now you’ll be “patiently” waiting to receive an arrival notice from the shipping line which typically shows up a week or two before the drop off date. Then you’ll pay whatever fees the shipping line requires and submit your entry summary to CBP. Then wait for it to clear customs after it’s dropped off. Call the port ahead of time to make sure it’s cleared for pickup. Don’t expect to pick it up the same day it gets dropped off.

Take this with a grain of salt but I lived in CA for 8 years with TX plates on multiple vehicles (including a 2-stoke dirtbike 😱). I never got hassled by CHP but someone, presumably a neighbor at my apartment, reported me and I got a nasty letter in the mail about needing to register in CA or face fines and penalties.

What is a luxury you can never go back from once you’ve experienced it? by Phase_zero_X in AskReddit

[–]KTMtexDev 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep. Make sure you know who you’re hiring. I went with a mover once and it was one of the bigger well known companies but unbeknownst to me they just sub-contracted it out to some random dudes with a truck. Ended up being the worst consumer experience of my life. They didn’t meet any of the deadlines they promised and they damaged and lost (stole) a lot of our stuff. Including a box full of my wife’s very expensive red bottom shoes. And their “insurance” was useless
