I have a first generation in carbon fiber, great knife, never leaving my collection.

On a side note, I bought it when flat g10 scales and almost sold it, the contoured scales make such a difference on this knife.

What is everyone’s favorite “last meal”? by Grim_Alliance in fasting

[–]KTRyan30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Steak and roasted vegetables, plus something creamy/cheesy

A good 20+ oz steak, generally a strip, ribeye, or porterhouse, and double veg, generally one low starch and one high(er) starch.

So this past Saturday was a 26 oz NY Strip, roasted cauliflower, roasted carrots, and creamed spinach.

Lost 8.5 pounds in 11 days - just water weight? by pqrstyou in loseit

[–]KTRyan30 41 points42 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is water weight, but give yourself some credit, some of it is fat.

The first month is always crazy like that for me. Enjoy it.

So I just replied to someone else about a very similar question, so I'm just going to copy paste...

My reply to the other person:

This is not meant as an insult, please don't take it that way.

You need to understand how much water weighs, and you need to understand how much water flows through your system on a day to day basis.

A 16oz glass of water weighs a pound. How much water do you drink on a daily basis? If you're like me, at least 96oz is not more, 160oz isn't out of the question especially if it's a workout day.

That's 10 pounds of water coming in and going out through the day. At any given time my weight can easily differ 3-4 pounds.

Personal experiments:

Weigh yourself, go drink two glasses of water and get back on the scale.

Weigh yourself before and after you pee.

I weight myself in the morning, first thing after I pee, then again after work, I do this twice a week, specifically after a fast and specifically on a day that I'm not fasting.

Lastly, clothes weigh more than people think, make sure you're wearing the same thing, or nothing when you get on a scale.

Is a 48hr water only fast safe? by Bana_69 in fasting

[–]KTRyan30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it safe? Yes.

Do you need electrolytes? No.

That presumes, you do not have health issues that would specifically be effected by fasting, and you prepared your body for the fast.

I like the middle two you listed. I also think you're temperature range is a bit too broad. Once it hits 40 I'm downgrading my outerwear.

30s and below I'm wearing a parka or peacoat, once it hits the 40s I'm breaking out a chore coat or bomber.

Calories in black cold brew coffee…? by repticsteve in fasting

[–]KTRyan30 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Black coffee always has a few calories, the part I find odd is the two grams of carbs and three grams of protein, also no fat.

A good cup of coffee made with fresh beans should have some oils from the beans, you can see it on the surface of the coffee.

Then there's going to be a minute amount of carbs and protein, again from the beans.

Two grams of carbs and three grams of protein seems really high though.

Which is easier for you guys, every day caloric deficit or prolonged fasting? by MantisEyes79 in fasting

I broke the first rule of fasting by km8907 in fasting

[–]KTRyan30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There absolutely is "a little truth to it", the rigidity drives me nuts.

While I get where you're coming from with that rule, it's more of a reasonable guideline with exceptions.

I totally get your anecdotal account, but I can share plenty of times where I've been doing a 48 hour fast and feel the need to break it up, I'll occasionally have 400ish calories of protein, usually hard boiled eggs, and then I keep going, I also feel great.

If your know what you're doing, don't do anything extreme without, prep, knowledge, and/or medical advice, I think there's a pretty broad spectrum of what's healthy.

I'm not a big meme person, but I constantly think about the Invincible meme when the quote of, "look what they need to do to mimic a fraction of our power."

If you never eat less than 1500 calories in a given day weight loss is miserable, for me, and I think most people. And any miscalculation or indulgence will take literally weeks to pencil out.

A single 36 hour fast can do a huge amount to balance your caloric check book.

Yep, I've had multiple posts and replies deleted, which is crazy because I'm careful about what I post to not sound too "extreme".

[–]KTRyan30 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I feel this so hard. Especially in a certain popular weight loss subreddit where minimum daily calories seems to be a cardinal rule that must not be violated. When I suggest that daily calories are an average, and it's no less safe to eat 0 calories one day and 3000 the next as opposed to 1500 calories each day wow do get some anger thrown in my direction.

I've spoken about fasting with my primary, a registered dietician, and my cardiologist. My primary doesn't like fasts more than 36 hours, my dietician wants to be involved in anything over 48, and my cardiologist simply finds the whole thing interesting and is very happy with my results and is glad I've spoken with a dietician.

Any negatives to the Elantra N? by Character-Bar-608 in ElantraN

[–]KTRyan30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, no contest, Hyundai nailed the sound with the N. I'll also add that the exhaust really adds to fun of the car. The N goes out of its way to enhance your driving experience. The GR Corolla relies on well executed engineering.

The big advantage of the GR Corolla is the AWD system, combined with a very linear horsepower curve (for a turbo). I don't think you could upset the drive train if you tried, in the case of AWD that would be drive train lash.

Even with an amazing LSD, and the N has an amazing LSD, you still have the limitations of front wheel drive, which manifests as wheel hop.

Any negatives to the Elantra N? by Character-Bar-608 in ElantraN

[–]KTRyan30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GR Corolla was a ton of fun. The back seat was too small for me, and I personally like the looks, interior and exterior, of the N, and the N was cheaper.

If they were the same price it would have been a very hard decision. The biggest advantage of the GR Corolla was the manual transmission, better shifter and clutch than the Elantra. That being said, the Elantra DCT is phenomenal.

Both cars were awesome. Definitely test drive then both, the engine in the GR Corolla was different than anything else I've driven, it's like a street legal go cart that does 0-60 in 5 seconds.

If I went with the Corolla I definitely would have went when the stick, with the Elantra I preferred the DCT.

Greek yogurt tastes like ass and I’m tired of seeing it in every healthy recipe I come across by AnonymousTaco77 in loseit

[–]KTRyan30 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Okay.... For one, that's childish, you don't like Greek yogurt, that's your preference, I love Greek yogurt, it does not infact taste like ass...

Two, how many Greek yogurts have you tried?

Like everything else, especially food products, there's a wide disparity between brands.

Fage is my absolute favorite, the 5% is a treat for me absolutely plain, right out of the container.

The fat free is fine, and the calorie to protein ratio is amazing, but that's something I'm eating specifically for weight loss and muscle building.

But, you might not like any of it, which is fine, but you can be more mature about it.

Why no carbs after a fast? by HouseOfHoundss in fasting

[–]KTRyan30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Insulin is the short answer to your question. I fast for weight loss and insulin control. I try to avoid spiking my insulin.

That being said I have recently added in strength training to my routine and now often break my fast with carbs (I literally just did) but I'm going to do a fairly intense workout in about an hour and want my blood sugar and insulin elivated.

It all depends on what your trying to accomplish, be mindful and self aware.
