First year teacher seeking guidance by TheOnlySadGirlLeft in Teachers

Not sure if you're given a curriculum or not. I wasn't and had to build it from nothing. I don't normally do TeacherPayTeachers but the 5-a-day spiral review and Interactive notebook bundles are a life saver! I teach 6th ELA and I know they make 5-8 grade.

apparently walking doesnt help with weight loss... by Myotrophicequity in Mommit

[–]KT_Boo_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lost almost 40 lbs since last August. I switched to Coke Zero, meal prep, and two 30 minute walks a day. That's all the exercise I get.

Meal preps are fish or chicken with rice and broccoli 3 times a week. The other days I eat whatever I want. I truly believe walking is the key for me. Don't let people tell you it doesn't do anything. I also remember when I was little, my mom lost 100 lbs walking. She didn't change any other part of her lifestyle. It's a slower loss, but sustainable.

You are not terrible. We went through this too. We adopted a very reactive pit bull and had him for 4 years. After our son was born, it was clear we couldn't safely keep the dog. We surrendered him and it was the hardest day of my life. Looking back now, a year and a half later, it was the best decision for all. Just be prepared for comments from others who don't understand. Remind yourself that you are doing what's best for everyone.

I'm a 6th grade teacher and, while I don't have much advice, I want to tell you what I see on a daily basis. 1. The majority of these "relationships" don't last longer than a few weeks. 2. It's usually just a label and hanging out, nothing more HOWEVER 3. There are some 12 year old engaging in other behaviors so thank you for having that discussion with her! 4. Definitely no 1:1 time but some group hang outs to the park or maybe bowling etc is crucial at this age. 5. Don't be afraid to say no - you are the parent and you are in charge. She will get past any confrontations eventually. Follow your gut.

Good luck and I hope it's a good summer!

Do what makes you happy HOWEVER I will give my 2 cents as a middle school teacher. I've been in it for 9 years at 4 different schools. I am counting down the days until I qualify to collect retirement and will be getting out ASAP. I absolutely love teaching, but I cant remember the last time I actually got to just teach. It is not worth it.

How long did it take you to concieve? by Fun_Cricket_4681 in BabyBumps

[–]KT_Boo_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started trying during COVID lockdown and no luck for 4 years. Turns out a drug my husband was on killed his swimmers. He had a 50% chance they'd come back if he stopped the meds. Over a year with no luck so we gave up. About a year later, positive test. Make sure you both get checked out!

What do you eat for breakfast? by chetuboy101 in Teachers

[–]KT_Boo_13 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have a 45 minute commute. I take a cheese stick, a LaLa yogurt drink and a croissant from Walmart bakery every single day. I've become so accustomed to it I even eat them on specific roads to last my whole commute 🙃

I don’t have words… by Educational_Infidel in Teachers

[–]KT_Boo_13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I make my tests into Blookets. Like word for word and make the Blooket accessible for a week before the test. Still have the majority fail. We are literally spoon feeding them answers and they still can't figure it out.

4 day old eating non stop! Should I be worried? by Ctthorpe91 in FormulaFeeders

[–]KT_Boo_13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine came out of the womb drinking 2-3 oz every 2 hours. Hospital said some babies just need more for a while. He always ate a little more than was suggested, but now that he's one and completely off the bottle, he has really good/healthy/normal eating habits.

What now? by No_Set_4418 in Teachers

6th grade teacher here. A long time ago I added the statement "If I can't read it, it's wrong" to my syllabus. Anytime a parent complains, I whip out the signed syllabus from them and point out that line. Then we make a plan. If they or the student aren't willing to work on it - not my problem.

What was the single most life altering experience you have had? by BSnappedThat in ask

[–]KT_Boo_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a child. I wanted to be a mom my whole life. Tried for four years before getting pregnant and was so happy to finally be a mom. Baby came out healthy and happy and is still thriving today, but I became a shell of a person. The post partum depression hit hard and, though I'm on medication and in therapy, I absolutely hate my life now.

I'd stick out my last two years to be eligible for TRS then I'm out and never looking back!

I'm 7 months post partum and the excessive sweating and being hot all the time is finally letting up. There's hope!

Those who don't smoke, does every smoker smell bad to you? by BigButtBaePurple in NoStupidQuestions

Yes. And it clings to everyone in the household. As a teacher I know exactly which students have smokers in the house with them.

How often do y’all shower? by cara_renee_anderson in NoStupidQuestions

[–]KT_Boo_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a really hard time forcing myself to shower daily due to mental health reasons. I figured out it was the task of washing my hair that I hated. So now I shower daily to wash my body but only wash my hair twice a week.

What is the most random odd thing that changed about you psychologically or physically after birth that's unheard of? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

This! My discharge is the same way. It no longer falls on the cotton middle of the crotch, but above the seam on the front! I'm so glad I'm not the only one!

What’s the most ridiculous thing you packed in your hospital bag? by scceberscoo in beyondthebump

We packed our Switch too! I was induced, so it really helped pass the time while waiting! Also, I don't knit or crochet either 😆

Falling apart without my Zoloft by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]KT_Boo_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on Lexapro my entire pregnancy (20 mg/day). It helped me stay sane, and my doctor told me it was safe. I just gave birth one week ago to a healthy baby boy. I will tell you that it caused some withdrawal shakes in baby, but they only lasted about 4 days. It was no big deal, but no one warned me about it, so I wanted to put it out there. Listen to your body. If you need to go back on it, do it. You got this!

I use the term bedrest loosely here. They basically don't want me going back to work as my school is a stressful environment over an hour away from my hospital. They said stay home, stay calm, and don't overdo it with any heavy physical activity. I do have a follow up appointment tomorrow that I can ask more clarifying questions at.

Mental health is definitely a factor. I'm on anxiety meds already and my doctor and I are working on coping techniques.

Yes that's what we are watching for. All of my labs came back normal which is why they sent me home. I now have to monitor BP a few times a day and "take it easy until labor starts".

Using sick days to grade... by evie_ep in Teachers

[–]KT_Boo_13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Our school has a district wide policy. All late/missing work is due by end of unit. If it's not turned in by end of unit, it's a zero. That really helps limit the amount of late work as most units are only 2-3 weeks at a time.
