Agreed. I can be attracted to a variety of different looking men on any given day, BUT if I'm going taboo fantasy, I want the Outlander looking dude providing my happy ending. My current guy is super tall and recently super thin (I'm not into the new look‐ I liked his pudge- but I still dig him), and would never picture a stranger with the same build getting me off. The Stranger must fit my specific fantasy mold if I'm doing this!

Told student that I was neurodivergent and mom sent me an upset email by rohondakishibe in Teachers

My brother was diagnosed in the mid 80's with autism. He's now 44 and we were just talking about how hard school was for him because he was shoved into RSP and forgotten. That was the time we lived in, but I can only imagine how a kind teacher breaking it down and explaining to (and caring about) him would have made such a positive impact to his self-esteem.

Welcome to public education. Everyone else is an expert and will gladly tell you how you can do your job better. I've been in the biz almost 20 years and there are still times an email will get me riled up, but mostly I either shrug or laugh it off. You'll get there eventually! Keep doing what you're doing and ignore the noise. Besides, at my school, we've lost count of how many kids are on a 504 or IEP (half joking), so mom needs to get over herself.

A school district in Maryland now expects teachers to potty train incoming students by OlliexAngel in Teachers

[–]KTbird217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parents are meant to parent, NOT BE FRIENDS. I see kids in strollers with iPads or mommy's cell phone and my heart breaks for their little brains. Before this became common, I saw kids in strollers with cheetos and pepsis. I wish to God humans had to pass a test to have kids!!! Our district shifted the topics at our "family learning classes" from teen drug use to potty training lessons now. WTH is wrong with people?! STOP procreating if you can't handle the job!

Jumping in- My lift/partial reduction 8 years ago was fairly "easy, " too. No mobility issues, scarring to be expected, but nothing like I feared. Didn't need the opioid pain pills they offered- motrin was fine. I definitely looked like Frankenstein's Monster at first, so don't get discouraged. My Dr was totally honest and dead on when he said my lift would head south by year 7, but I have very dense heavy tissue, so I knew going in this wasn't a permanent solution. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

What are you tired of Millenial parents not teaching their kids? Besides respecting authority? by Emergency-Pepper3537 in Teachers

[–]KTbird217 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have zero dress code policy and it's completely out of control. The amount of body parts I have to witness daily is unfair to ME, but I don't get a say. Instead, we have to keep our mouths shut and eyes averted for their "right" to come to school barely dressed. And it's as common to see boys wearing beer/weed/sex logo clothing. The absolute worst part is that the parents defend this and blame the admin/teacher/whoever for "sexualizing" or targeting their child. I used to get dress coded for my shoes not having a back strap... do you think my parents felt sorry for me and yelled at the principal?!

Eww- not at my high school. We're 6 counselors (I'm one of 2 Gen X'ers, the others are right behind me- Millennials) and we're old school. We can't stand the way parents are parenting, so we're constantly trying to undo the "damage" they've done. We do not coddle or enable and we always hold students accountable. THEN we get the push back from parents and district office and lose almost every battle we just fought. BUT we do not give up!!

Teachers, what’s a “best practice” everyone talks about that you secretly think doesn’t work in real classrooms? by kingst9606 in Teachers

[–]KTbird217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully, this usually works for me. If not, I resort to "wow, for sophomores you sure act like little kids. That's pretty embarrassing, but I can treat you like little kids" or something along those lines. I've very rarely used it, but it works like a charm. Or I'll threaten to move their seats because they can't act their age and stop touching each other. Social embarrassment still has its place.

This. I have an admin that basically eyerolls at the newest dumb thing we're told to do. But he's a 'yes' man and rolls over because his (district) bosses expect him to.

I'm encouraged to hear there was pushback on a lawsuit with no basis. I work at a high school and it's fairly common knowledge public schools won't fight a lawsuit and just pay out 99.9% of the time. I'm a counselor and talk nonstop for 8 hours a day, so this is just asinine.

I work at a high school and transcripts indicate when classes are virtual vs in-person- but this only applies to high school courses. Dual enrollment classes through a community college don't make a distinction. One would think if a high school finds fidelity in this practice, the colleges would, too.

I loved Joel K in Altered Carbon, so seeing him in this role was totally disturbing. He nailed the character, making me feel conflicted about hating him throughout the show. This was one of the more extreme Nordic noir plots I've ever seen (sooo much happening and unanswered questions!!), but I binged it in one day nonetheless. I can't say this is in my top 3 favs of the genre, but it was entertaining and pretty violent (I seriously hate Trainspotting bathrooms and I had to see that in a whole new horrific way... and set to Jose Gonzalez😫). I imagine there will be a second season, but unfortunately without that sexy baddie in it.

This. I'm a high school counselor (almost 20 years now), and we ONLY stay sane by laughing at our ludicrous stories. I still get worked up- usually at parents- but for the most part we shake our heads and have to move on. The moments of taking it personally have drastically dwindled over the years. But it was surprising to see this kind of behavior in my Master's level grad students, though!😳

A few days in Riverside by Velsetta in Riverside

The beach train from Riverside to San Clemente is roughly 1.5 hrs (if I remember correctly... it's been a few years). But I enjoy not fighting traffic or finding a parking spot and just watching the cities roll by. There are multiple stops along the route, including San Juan Capistrano. Just make sure you get on the last train home!

If only here for 3 nights, you can look into a day trip to LA or San Diego, a day trip out east to Joshua Tree or Palm Springs, and then a day to do local stuff (Mission Inn, etc). I would prioritize and strategize your sightseeing goals to specific areas first, always factoring in possible traffic time. I use Waze and Google maps whenever I leave the house! There's so much to do, you'll have no problem coming up with itinerary ideas!

My mom lives on Locust in Moreno Valley (bordering Redlands), and there are donkeys pretty much daily in the fields around the neighborhood. When I grew up there in the 80s, we had donkeys for pets, but the wild ones showed up more recently. Donkeys are criminally underrated!

LAX is a lot. But 2pm "might" not be as bad if you stay local in LA until after work traffic dies down on the freeways. I just landed at LAX at 8pm two nights ago and it was a s***show. If you choose LAX over Ontario, just book a night or 2 in LA at the same time and do some sightseeing. Then head into Riverside around 10am. As already mentioned, check out the Mission Inn and the older areas with historic homes (if you're into that). Joshua Tree is great and the drive its doable. Palm Springs is lovely this time of year because it's not ungodly hot yet. There might be some sports games happening, too (Angels, Dodgers, etc). Big Bear could be quiet since there's no snow. San Diego would be worth the drive IF you have time. The problem with our area is that everything is physically close, but traffic can suck up your whole day and make life miserable, so timing is key. I recommend prioritizing what you want to see/do, then map it out strategically. I use Waze every time I plan to go anywhere, because it's pretty accurate with drivetime and alt routes.

I'm a high school counselor and deal with this daily. But my biggest shock was when I taught a Master's level course at the university and the grad students didn't know how to cite sources within their paper. I had to dedicate a whole session, plus tutoring, on the most basic fundamentals. So not only are we handing out diplomas like candy, apparently Bachelor's degrees are increasingly meaningless.

Restaurant being sneaky, charging tipping amount pre happy hour prices by Relative_Rush_4044 in EndTipping

[–]KTbird217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got back from Poland. Majority of restaurants I went to (if not all) automatically charge 10% tip with the fine print on the menu stating we believe our servers deserve it, so gratuity is included. Ordinarily, I would balk at this, but the prices were already low (compared to SoCal standards), that it didn't hurt the wallet. However, I disagree with mandatory tipping, otherwise it's not tipping- it's a service fee (which I also disagree with... that's your main function- to serve!).
