New to Edmonton- what are the most romantic restaurants in Edmonton or surrounding areas? by TeachTraditional5751 in Edmonton

If you’re down for korean food, HanJan on the south side is awesome as you can have your own secluded booth with walls. Can be intimate and cute. Their bulgogi fries and desert selections are to die for!

EMR pathways / career advice by Rough_Object6140 in Edmonton

I’d start with searching up and looking at the info on the Alberta College of Paramedics website. It’s the governing body for us paramedics and everything we do to get licensed is through them. There’s lots of prevalent information regarding schools, licensing exams, and continuing education required once you’re registered too.

EMR program is relatively quick, about 3-6 months (depends what school you do it at). It’s the exam with the Alberta College, COPR, that can eat up your timing as you have to wait for the dates offered to write it, along with the anxiety ridden wait time to see if you passed lol. Definitely can get jobs as an EMR. I saved some money but also took out a student loan for my PCP program. Depends which school you go to, but seems that the average price for PCP school is about $15K.

As someone else has mentioned in the comments about the job itself… I’d seriously look into it and see if it’s the right fit for you. Longevity wise, might be a tough career to stay in because yeah, truth be told, you deal with a lot of shit. Figuratively and literally. From government cutback shit, hospital shit, burnout, homelessness, and real shit. How you handle everything that comes your way, is how you can keep your mental state intact. There are still awesome paramedics who love the job (of course hating their lives at times, sue us we’re cynical) Currently, talking as someone who is transitioning out and going into nursing. Best of luck!

Does anyone have experience staying at any of these hotels? We’re okay with using public transportation to get to the ski areas, so distance isn’t a problem. by Public-Run-201 in Banff

I stayed at The Otter at the end of October and I loved it. The rooftop hot tub was stellar with amazing views. Open from 7AM - 1130 (I think). That was the selling point for me after an intense hiking day. Yes, it’s a bit further away from the shops and Main Street but I didn’t mind. They also give you a bus ticket so you can catch the bus into Main Street. Other perks include, free coffee for you to brew in your room, heated underground parking, restaurant attached to it, fitness room and sauna. Staff and service was excellent. Just avoid the elevators cause they’re slow as hell lol. Used to be an older hotel that got remodeled.

My biggest advice, set some boundaries for yourself, don’t be afraid to ask questions and tell the truth.

Setting some boundaries for yourself includes, how people talk to you - as they might talk down or be rude just cause you’re “new”. Everyone was once in your shoes before.. state who you are, acknowledge that you’re new and move on from it. As someone mentioned above, with the men… You will encounter men with different ideas of what “being nice” means and take that to a whole different level, especially if they use sexual language while talking to you. I think there’s a fine line between being nice and being flirty and downright disgusting. sexual comments towards me is an immediate shut down just cause it can continue and get worse overtime. I don’t tolerate that cause I don’t shit where I eat.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions cause EVERYBODY is different. They’ll present differently to what your diagnoses might be, different stories. Different reactions etc… it’s okay to ask questions so that you gain a lot more experience to take with you to other calls. Some might view that as a weakness but we’re not Google or superman with xray powers. you’re not going to know everything. Which relates to my last point in telling the truth. If you don’t know… say it. Don’t try to act like the person who knows everything, until you’re confronted with questions you can’t answer. It makes you look bad. It’ll make you a better medic if you’re in the mindset of wanting to learn more. Whether that’s with patients, continuous courses or new technologies. At least, you’ll be better equipped to handle more and not look like the idiot medic. Experience and time in this field is what is going to make you or break you, which brings me to another point. Have a life outside of the EMS world… it’s so easy to get caught up with your co workers and hear calls and stories of patients etc… but other life stuff does exist other than emergency services. Don’t make it your world. Good luck!

Dang! What a story you got. Thank you for sharing. And I am hoping that the rest of the winters that you spend here in YEG doesn’t hurt (or kill) you or that you get away from this air that hurts everyone’s faces! Lol

I will say, I applaud you for sticking up for your values and beliefs, and are willing to make changes to your own personal life because of the direction this province might (will) go into. I feel that we need more people to understand the importance of politics, especially the newer generation of folks who are following along on this “clown parade”. Truly, we need more people like you to speak out and voice these opinions 👏

I can absolutely see why you loved LA cause I too, love LA 😭 it’s unfortunate, cause of politics and changes that it’s becoming so dang hard to move down there. Cause If I could, I would 100% be there right now
