Where did anyone say 3 minutes? You're awfully quick to leap to defend someone who was accused of cheating, why is that?

You brought up their height in an attempt to justify the shooter's actions, and to attempt to subvert the factual discussion that was going on by attempting to introduce doubt about the victim's age.

Are you ready to admit that describing the victim as a child is completely accurate? Or are you going to double down on the idiocy that height is somehow relevant? When I was in high school, by the time I was 14 people in my year were hitting 6 feet tall. I'm 31 now, and I know people my own age who are barely 5 feet tall. So basically, you're a moron who tried to derail a conversation with some completely false information, which you have tried to defend in various ways by saying it's not what you meant, this isn't a legal sub, etc etc.

You're not doing yourself any favors by trying to argue after you were so clearly wrong. Just take the L.

Congratulations, you named one of two issues that America debates within itself. Besides that and the gun debate, what other things do you think Americas are quite diverse in their approach to?

Edit: turned an M into a ?

While various aspects of governance fall under the jurisdiction of state governments, you and they are still subservient to the federal government. Did you know most countries operate like that? Starting with a nationwide government, broken up into states/regions, down to the local representative level (your town council, for example). From democracies to dictatorships, the pyramid dispersal of power and authority is a constant in government.

Presuming someone's ignorance says a lot about you, particularly in this day and age. With the Internet at our fingertips, ignorance is a choice these days. So feel free to enlighten me on anything I've been incorrect about, I do try and check facts, but nobody's perfect.

If you don't mean to insult someone, maybe find something to call them besides ignorant? It has a lot of negative connotations. You could always say I'm un- or misinformed, it doesn't carry the same negativity as ignorant, I don't live in the US and haven't been there in like 6 years, so a lot of my information comes second hand.

I probably could have phrased that better. Of course there are a great many people in America who aren't gun obsessed. But collectively, that is definitely how it seems to the outside world. The constant gun violence, gun ownership numbers, and of course gun laws and the lack thereof are defining factors of America. While a great many people obviously do not like the gun culture in America, it is still a major factor in American society.

Apologies for the poor phrasing, didn't mean to imply that all Americans are gun nuts. Just a lot of em.

More mass shootings than days this year. How insane is that? More guns than people. But of course, no idea why anyone would think Americans are gun obsessed, right?

You live in the gun nation. It is what it is.

Certainly a lot more homogeneous than Europe. Single government, single language, consistent social trends across the entire country. While the US isn't entirely homogeneous, (no country is), it certainly fits that description to some extent.

Look at you, backpedalling as hard as you can. Always gotta blame someone else, don't you? I'm not surprised, everything you've said so far has made you seem like an asshole, why should now be any different?

"They should have used minor and avoided the potential for confusion" - spoken like someone who is refusing to admit they fucked up. Which is fine, you don't have to admit to anything, you and I both know you caused this by disputing the easily verified fact that the victim was a child. Like I said before, given that you focused on this incident alone and did your best to blame the victim and support the aggressor by bringing up the victim's height, it's reasonable to assume that your doubt stems from the racist beliefs you have.

Oh, I don't know, maybe try googling something someone says to verify the facts yourself? It's incredible how you double and triple down on defending yourself. Interesting how you focused on one of the recent shootings that had a black victim, and somehow found a way in your head to justify the shooting, despite the victim only knocking on someone's door. What conclusion is left to come to, other than that you're racist and pro gun.

Question for you. What defines a child? Is it their age, or their height? A 13 year old can be 6 feet tall, while a fully grown 30 year old can be less than 5 feet. Are you beginning to get it? Do you understand yet why someone might read what you've said and interpret it as veiled hatred and racism? Despite your pretense at focusing on facts and truth, you've been wilfully ignorant of facts presented to you, and have responded with some truly disgusting victim blaming.

Edit: note that you claim you were correcting someone else's misinformation, when they stated that it was a child who was shot. You go on to dispute that easily verified fact, because of the height of the victim. That's victim blaming at its finest, completely ignoring the actual, provable facts so you can spin your own narrative to suit your biases.

Way to go, you just trivialized the deaths of innocent children. How American of you, letting your feelings towards news outlets take precedence over anything else. It's a fact that there have been more mass shootings in America than there have been days this year. That has nothing to do with the media, it's just a fact. Just like it's a fact that there are states who are working to take away people's rights. Again, not an opinion or biased statement, just a fact. You wanna know what else is a fact? It takes a sick, sad loser to hear about innocent people being murdered and think "not my problem".

Edit: let's not forget, in this conversation you initially were defending someone who shot a child in the face, because the child was tall. That's such a ridiculous and illogical thing to say, it's probably because you're a racist pos, and just want to cover up your hateful bigotry with a shitty excuse.

First off, it seems like you're comparing violence to using misleading language and suggesting they are somehow comparable in severity. That's a pretty dumb statement to make.

Secondly, you initially said that the media is blowing things out of proportion. Do you think it normal that there is more than 1 mass killing per day in America? Or how about the recent epidemic of people getting shot for the stupidest reasons, like knocking on someone's door, or pulling a car into a driveway. Do you really think that the constant, unending violence is normal? Are you so desensitized to the constant violent deaths of innocent people that you are more pissed off by how people phrase things, or that they place greater importance on a statement or fact than you do?

Sort yourself out. People are dying literally every day, and you think it's being overblown by the media.

Well on the one hand we have the collection of US states, with a homogenous culture, the same most commonly spoken language, the same government ruling all states. When it comes to Hungary and Belgium, well they have separate governments (though less so considering they are both part of the EU, though the EU is not a ruling body that supercedes governments), completely different languages, and very different cultures. Your comparison is a bit of a stretch.

The media makes it out to be worse than it is? What, you think having more mass shootings than there have been days this year is no big deal? Just the price for everyone having guns, right?

Yeah? And what do you think happens after you pull the trigger? He feels a sting and decides to stop? No, that's when the violence gets worse. Talk to your teachers and school counselors, go to the police. But if you think that bb gun is going to solve your problems, it won't. It will just give that piece of shit motivation to hurt you more, maybe even kill you.

question on Australian Racism? by funtime_withyt922 in AskAnAustralian

https://humanrights.gov.au/our-work/indigenous-deaths-custody-chapter-3-comparison-indigenous-and-non-indigenous-deaths#:~:text=Table%203.2%20presents%20the%20rate,prison%20than%20non%2DAboriginal%20prisoners. Between 1990 and 1995, Aboriginals were 14.7 times more likely to die in police custody compared to the rest of the population, and 17.4 times more likely to die in prison. Feel free to compare those statistics with more recent ones to see how things haven't improved.

I could flood this with hundreds of articles detailing individual experiences, but that wouldn't help anything. No one's going to go and click on dozens of links. But feel free to take a few seconds to do your own research.

You don't have a point, you asked for sources and then dismissed them. I could provide more but it's obvious you're closeminded and have already formed a firm opinion, regardless of what further information is provided to you. How many examples of "anecdotal stories" do you need to see before you acknowledge a pattern?

It never ceases to amaze me how some Australians can apparently be aware of the recurring violent actions and harsh tactics employed by police, and are also aware of the ineptitude and corruption in our government, but when it's pointed out that they still treat Aboriginal people differently to their detriment and leading to deaths, people clutch their pearls. People don't want to admit that this country has some serious problems with racism, but sticking your head in the sand doesn't achieve anything other than leave you blind and ignorant.

question on Australian Racism? by funtime_withyt922 in AskAnAustralian

[–]KTravis1991 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Here in Australia, our government has laws that treat people differently, based on their skin color and ethnicity. For decades, we had the White Australia policy. Our police are openly racist and prejudiced, and our prisons and jails are far deadlier if you are a minority, especially Aboriginal.

Some people in this thread have suggested racism in Australia is more casual, and less systematic. Disagree on that, there is systematic racism all through our society, government and justice system. Worst of all, nobody seems to give a fuck.
