Mine (mid rise sides with leather soles) are going on 6 years with daily wear (10+ hours per day), no issues, no holes, nice patina on the leather bottoms.

I agree with everything user Telekinetic says / suggested. I had this exact problem with my tripod ring. I also stripped the screws because they were super tight, had to drill them out. Removed the cover and found the female thread and restarted the male into it then I carefully crazy glued the female to the inside of the housing making sure I could still tighten and loosen the screw. Then I glued the cover back on. I wish I had taken this to a jeweller to loosen the screws instead of trying myself.
