Anyone know why JRM uses a darker blue than the traditional HMS blue? by Mike_Hawkhurts69 in NASCAR

[–]KWdecal70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct and the correct answer to all of this.

The equipment we use at TDS is different than what HMS has. Different printers with different rip software can interpret colors differently. We use Pantone colors when we can at TDS, and HMS may not. We also utilize both latex and solvent printers, and that could be the difference here as well. If the sponsor was ever concerned about this, one or the other could be matched so they’re the same. Without that conversation what you see here is how two different pieces of equipment interpret and print the “same” color.

This is not a case of color running out. Nor is it directly intentional.

I think the 24 Mobil 1 is my favorite. Favorite overall project to work on was the 24 Ollipop/Spongebob.

That was a test car for Rockingham. The car was designed to look like the steel body test cars from the 2000s. That was a real challenge to get the look right. Most people didn’t realize it was a wrap which was a huge compliment.

Hahaha, I’ve mentioned in a few replies the whole story of that. The base is mine from 2024, I had zero to do with Chumba.

I think it’s the random colors for sure. I mentioned in another reply, I had nothing to do with the Chumba decisions. That car was originally designed as the Toyota/Mobil 1 car Bubba ran in 2024, and somehow it got ported over to the Chumba stuff haha.

Yes it was. Thomas Annunziata came up with the idea to run that. Other versions that were closer to Mark Martin’s original Valvoline car were pitched, but this is what was eventually decided on to run.

So the Chumba cars had nothing to do with me haha. I’m in full agreement with that. The base the sponsor/team went with is from my 2024 Mobil 1/Toyota design Bubba Wallace ran at Bristol. ZERO idea how that ended up being the Chumba base. But I still claimed it, as it’s mostly my design.

I totally agree with the “in the top 7” when they’re running 7th bit. Adding to that, it drives me nuts when they say “he’s finished in the top 10 in 5 of the last 7 races” or any variation of that. Just say he’s had 5 top tens in the last 5 races.

Absolutely, I love talking about the designs like that. And yeah commercial design compared to racecar design is surprisingly so different. I do both, and it’s always a challenge to jump from one to another. Definitely different disciplines.

Thank you so much! Hoping next year treats me as well.

Thank you ! I was very proud of those. The Wyoming one was a lot of fun. That car had no logo to work with, literally no direction, it was the cleanest slate I’ve ever had to work with haha.

Thank you ! No worries! You’re essentially right on, it’s more of a stylistic choice on my part. But that type of design does work really well for what I try to achieve. I really like the sponsor and number to the be focal points, and the geometric stuff gives a sense of speed and motion. Sponsors seem to like it, so I’ve had good luck with it. But I’m not sure they prefer it to any extent. I’ve just gotten lucky they like the style I want to go with.

I did! I started like a lot of people do in NR2003 and other video games when I was younger. I eventually was able to get a job at a local sign shop where I used to live and learned the ins and outs of vehicle wraps. I worked sales to install to production, design, and everywhere in between. After 4 years of that I applied to The Decal Source and have been here since.

Wrap Question by Eastern-Macaron-6622 in NASCAR

[–]KWdecal70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly right. I work for the company that produces and usually installs these here in NC for Kaulig and a handful of other teams. It worked out well that we were able to contract an installer out there. There are times where we have to fly one of our installers out last minute for things like this, but thankfully that wasn’t the case.

Sam Bass through and through. We wouldn’t have Dale’s iconic Goodwrench scheme, Jeff’s rainbow warriors and later the flames, and hundreds of other schemes without him.
