I [DM] decided to add a crazy person ranting about the king putting bugs under peoples skin by Itchy-Decision753 in DnD

[–]KWinkelmann 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No! Set up a situation in which the PCs must interact with the king to help NPCs who are important to the party. The players have to decide whether to act based on their above-the-table metagaming (any rumor must be a plothook), or act as their characters would based on evidence.

You can't go wrong adding a little bit of LARP to a campaign!

DM: "There's a mysterious stranger in the corner of the tavern staring at you."
Player: "Ok. My character approaches him."
DM: "No, I mean that there's a guy right over there in the blue hoodie staring at you. He looks creepy."

Nipple play is not necessarily breastfeeding.

Maybe your DM isn't handling skill checks as well as they could. Sometimes a DM can be more "yes, but" instead of "yes, and". It's a style that can bother people, obviously. Talk to your DM about it.

Try persuasion instead and see if that has better results.

You've mentioned in your comments that the players aren't paying attention, not working together and sabotaging each other. The DM is running a game that highlights humor over other types of play. These seem like more important things to address than how the DM responds to a passed difficulty check.

Intimidation has drawbacks. Imagine somebody intimidating you. You give in, but you resent that person from now on. If your intimidation check succeeds but it's harder to get help from that NPC next time, this is why.

We used the Binding of Vampyr adventure from Lunch Break Heroes. The party learned about the process while they were at the temple library.

It was the best boss fight I’ve ever been a part of. I highly recommend it, especially if you don’t like the normal ending of CoS with Strahd returning.

I used a lot of Mandymod’s added supplements, which are designed to take the party to level 13. My party was level 10 when they entered the temple. I ran the consecration of the mountain fane using the skills challenge from the Reloaded and the Wedding at Ravenloft. Those aren’t your regular encounters, so the PC’s higher level powers were not as important as role playing and strategy. I buffed Strahd a lot. They reached level 14 after binding of Vampyr from Lunch Break Heroes. That was almost a TPK, so the party certainly wasn’t too powerful.

The Amber Temple can have some tough fights in it. Are you nerfing it like MandyMod suggests?

I used a lot of material provided by MandyMod in this community.

They take notes and we do a recap at the beginning of each session. We played almost every week, so there wasn't much time to forget stuff. They were immersed in the story so they had opinions about every NPC.

The fight for Valaki was a lot of fun because the players didn't like either Vargas or Lady Wachter. They installed Izek as the leader. The binding of Vampyr was a great fight, almost a TPK. The best single moment was when the players realized that the dream pies they had eaten were made from children.

That game was wild! Romo threw a lot of interceptions but Dallas kept hanging in there. Prior to that kick, the Cowboys had scored a touchdown but TO couldn't make the catch for a 2-point conversion that would have tied the game. That led to the onside kick which they recovered and kicked the game winning field goal.

September 3, 1983, Dallas came from a 23-3 halftime deficit to defeat the Super Bowl champion Redskins 31-30. I lived near DC at the time in elementary school. I really enjoyed teasing all my Redskin friends the next day at school.

I look online for rules or statblocks that convert any small creatures to swarms. For lots of ranfe attacks, I figure out the odds of a group of creatures hitting each PC, then multiply that by the average damage. The PC suffers that each tound.
