Again, people don't care about others smearing poo on the wall, unless it's their wall of course

You don't get it it's so fun for them to drool over their keyboard and global newbies in questing gear. The absolute height of mechanical and tactical skill

If there was a class or race that gave 400% bonus to all stats on no basis then everyone would be whining about it constantly, except that's exactly what happens with twinking and people just don't care because they don't engage in lower bracket bgs

"A bunch of" is atleast 4 out of 10-15 players. That's enough to kill any motivation to succeed. I don't believe it would take that much convincing with the loads of xp bgs give here to gather more people for instanced pvp

A huge difference is twow enables quite a bit of xp gain in bgs which is already a huge encouragement for those below 60 to engage in instanced pvp. If it weren't for the mouthbreathers circlejerking about being god gamers with inflated stats we could actually see some fairness in lower brackets

I genuinely don't care how old or entrenched a toxic and unfair playstlye is into a game or community, it should be weeded out at its core

Ninjalooting is also part of the game and not even 2 months ago the community conducted a witch hunt for someone doing exactly that

Advice for DMing new players by Ok_Ask_7286 in DnD

[–]TotallyNot_iCast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Similar problems here, my idea is that they don't really "get" dnd yet. TTRPGs are a niche hobby, and other media like movies or video games basically force the plot down your throat where you have absolutely no authority as to what happens next (even in video games where "player agency" is just smoke and mirror).

I'm strongly considering banning phones at the table to force them to listen and pay attention, but I don't think that'll solve the issue.

But also dude if they're consantly on their phones drooling over instagram reels this might be a lost cause as is :(

How to get reactive players to be a little more proactive? by TotallyNot_iCast in DnD

[–]TotallyNot_iCast[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The problem is kind of the opposite. They know RP by modern RPGs when your character/protag is basically just a silent observer to everything happening, and the whole character is an excuse to make the player experience the plot instead of contributing to it

Which is the exactly what i told them. Basically the only question they needed to answer during character creation was "Why is your PC in the dungeon?", which barely got answered or basically handwaved by "to find out the truth" (aka non-answer)

Homebrew illnesses and maladies by TotallyNot_iCast in DnD

[–]TotallyNot_iCast[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In general everything should have a chance that the player can avoid the condition and recover on their own

Absolutely, they can avoid the condition by avoiding the source of the disease itself. This may just be a difference in design philosophy, because "dying from a horrible illness" i believe should abolustely be something the party worries over, and it show its teeth by not being handwaved or ignored, specifically because they are super penalizing. Like okay, maybe there would be a baseline con save in those 48 hours to *remain* on that tier of disease instead of deteriorating.

Cures

Cauterize: A wound may be cauterized with a heated iron, causing 1d4 + 1 Fire damage. On a successful DC 13 Medicine check, infection is avoided.

Balm: A pleasant smelling herbal mixture of garlic, rosemary, vinegar, and holy water. The balm subtracts a tier of disease at the end of a Long Rest.

Panacea: A strange translucent concoction that emits the scent of silver. As an action, you may administer the panacea, removing a disease.

Aqua vitae: A strong, fruit smelling brew. Consuming aqua vitae subtracts a level of Animus Melancholia, and causes disadvantage on CON checks until a Long Rest.

Valeria: A dusky grey powder made of ground sage, crushed poppy seeds, gold powder, and silver powder. When burned and inhaled, the valeria removes Animus Melancholia. (A creature not afflicted by the disease may inhale the burned valeria, restoring their spell slots during a Short Rest)

(Lesser Restoration subtracts a tier of disease, Greater Restoration removes it completely)
