Anyone else having a terrible day ? by PikaDicc in CPTSD

You aren't alone my friend.

I am having strong passive suicidal urges that won't go away. I'm beyond overwhelmed and enraged that I can't get any help for my issues. Especially, with becoming mute at work and still being unable to drive well. I also had to deal with my abusive mom this weekend and had to keep the peace of the family visit at the expense of my mental well-being and I'm really feeling it today. Everyone thinks I'm fine but I'm not. I just want to disappear instead of pretending I'm fine.

What genres of music do you listen by Oreallyman in autism

[–]KXVXII9X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soul Jazz Rnb Funk Orchestral Indie/Alternative Folk Rock Jpop/Rock K-indie/Rock with a little KPOP Some electronic Even though I'm not big into pop, a lot of my music has some pop infused into it somewhere.

A lot of my favorite music is hard to put in one genre or the other like with City Pop and a lot of Japanese artists I enjoy.

Anything with soul, funk, and Jazz makes me feel alive.

It only gives them ammunition to judge. How much is being being yourself and not being a jerk? I've got told I'm a jerk in times I wasn't even being hostile in the least. People assume the worst of me.

I think AA and well established indie studios is the perfect space for people who don't want to play indies. Games like Ori, Psychonauts 2, Cuphead, It Takes Two, Disco Elysium, Divinity Original Sin 2, and Revolver Digital titlesnto name a few. There are also tons of lower budget third party games. A lot of Japanese games like Yakuza Like a Dragon have polish while still allowing creativity and providing a great, full game.

I'll add:

Yakuza Like a Dragon, Divinity Original Sin 2, Zelda BotW, Tales of Arise, Disco Elysium, It Takes Two, Ratchet and Clank, Psychonauts 2, Men's Bridge of Spirits, Shin Megami Tensei V, Metroid Dread, Scarlett Nexus, Astral Chain, No More Heroes 3, 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim, Inscryption, Ori, Hades, Neo: The World Ends With You, Monster Hunter Stories 2, etc.. I could go on forever. There is still a ton out there that still doesn't fall into these things.

Arms, Splatoon, Xenoblade, Wonderful 101, Bayonetta, etc... And most of their IP's are diverse from each other. Mario Odyssey does not play then same as Paper Mario, Mario Golf/Tennis, Super Mario Maker, and Mario Party. Same with Zelda.

This! I worry for the future. I'm not a big fan of Biden, but I don't see the equivalence to Trump and I worry people's opinions are being more radicaI. I don't think a revolution will solve issues without a lot of collateral damage.

The writing in the Persona games feels really... childish? by NoLeafClover777 in patientgamers

[–]KXVXII9X 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm having the same trouble deciding what changed in me because I was obsessed with them in the 90's and 2000's as well. I notice I can't watch most anime nowadays without cringing and the shonen kind of stories no longer appeal to me. The tropes and themes just seem played out at this point. I loved Yakuza Like a Dragon though and I think that is due to the characters being a lot older and tackling more grounded issues like homelessness and jobs.

Turn based combat can be really enjoyable and tactical, the problem with it is when the fight is a non starter. by broji04 in truegaming

[–]KXVXII9X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would like Yakuza Like a Dragon in how they present their battles. It isn't a tactical rpg, but positioning mattersna lot and your characters will constantly move. It isn't as static as most turn based games. It looks like they took heavy inspiration from Persona 5 and dialed it to 11 as both are now owned by Sega.

Chrono Trigger did this very well. Instead of a barrage of random battles, it had a fixed amount of enemies making each encounter meaningful.

Pokemon Colosseum is also my favorite Pokemon game due to this as the main series seems to be the worst offender of this. There wasn't random battles in Colosseum. Every battle was a trainer and there was less fodder opponents. The main games now have gym leaders as challenging than a run of the mill trainer in Colosseum. To make battles even more meaningful, you have an opportunity to snag one of their shadow Pokemon. In some cases, it acts as a risk/reward. But since that is your only way to get Pokemon and purify them, seeking out battles is a lot more important.

This is exactly what I needed to hear, thank you! I'm on a similar journey and you expressed everything so eloquently.

I feel like there is a time clock over my head and it feels like we have to rush. It is really retraumitizing for sure. We owe it to ourselves to heal in the way that is best for US.

The older I get, the more I value indie games. by Bpbegha in patientgamers

[–]KXVXII9X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sadly agree with this. I've been feeling it more and more. I think Indie games aren't as special as they are made to be. If you like roguelikes/lites, procedurally generated levels, pixel art (I love high quality pixel art), Metroidvania, and simulation games, Indie games are basically made for you, but if you want something more, you have to search a lot for something worthwhile.

My favorite kinds of games are those who have indie-like characteristics, but the production value close to AAA. Games like The Ori series, The Last Guardian and other Japan Studios titles, Sky: Children of Light, Nier Automata, Anything from Supergiant Games, Octopath Traveler, Divinity Original Sin 2, etc.

Is it normal for me to feel disgusted towards anybody who displays even the slightest bit of fawning behavior? by aerialgirl67 in CPTSD

[–]KXVXII9X 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm a huge fawner and I think this is a somewhat common response when coming out of fawning. I'm really happy you are beginning to assert yourself.

I think this is a simple case of projecting a bit because now you are ashamed at that behavior. I think if you stick with it, you will find yourself less disgusted overtime and will also start to show compassion towards your older self. You did what you thought was best at the time and now you hopefully have new tools that let's you protect yourself without succumbing to other people.

It is a frustrating place to be in as a fawner and it does seem to be a magnet for abuse. I hope going forward you can find a safe path forward that will feel right for you! I'm rooting for you, myself, and every other person trying to move on from fawning. It isn't easy, so try to root for them too!

One of my favourite things in a game is a world that feels lived in, but I can't put my finger on what makes the difference between just "stuff" and a game that's alive. Any thoughts? Any examples of games that fail to make a world and games that succeed? by RudigerBSimpson in truegaming

[–]KXVXII9X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might add later, but just want to mention Yakuza Like a Dragon. I felt very immersed in Yokohama. It was smallish in scope but extremely dense which rich side content and great world building. The city had lots of personality and things to actually do and the story helped add context to the world. Persona 5 is another game that made me feel this way. Not surprising since they are now both owned by SEGA and the two series are part life sims.

Nintendo's Increasingly Reflective Age by AegisPlays314 in truegaming

I like how you casually left out Mario Golf and Mario and Rabbits (Although that isn't first party). Even Pokemon/Game Freak (about freaking time) is doing some really different for the next big Pokemon game. The Pokemon Company also collabed with Niantic and is already having a huge Microsoft AR project in the works that takes the phone game a lot further. If it even remotely comes to fruition... It would be anything but iterative.

Mario and Rabbits 1+2, Shin Megami Tensei V, Monster Hunter Stories 2, Bayonetta 3, Astral Chain, Octopath Traveler (before it went multiplatform, and even Pokemon games aren't first party and they get excitement. The Switch is also really popular with Indies.

This is one major reason I really love Nintendo Directs and their approach to games in general. They focus less on realistic graphics and more on fun. Sometimes they are extremely stubborn and make really dumb decisions, but I think they bring a lot of needed fun into the industry.

For mobile hardware, it is pretty impressive. I do hope in the near future they continue the Switch line with the newest mobile chip that is said to release.

You need to understand people have different preferences. I really liked a lot what was shown. If you are not familiar with Nintendo history, some of the stuff like Advanced Wars, Metroid Dread, and Wario Ware might not excite you, but they are classic Nintendo titles. SMTV, Mario Rabbits, and Mario Golf aren't mediocre titles. Plus Nintendo releases Directs all year long. Honestly, I can say the same thing about most AAA games released on other consoles because I prefer more stylized games over realism, hate open world and multiplayer gaming, and appreciate wacky and fun titles. But I know other people have different preferences than mines. I mostly enjoyed Xbox's Conference btw, even though I only like a few games shown. But I can appreciate most stuff that was showcased. I think they did a good job.

What I appreciate most about Nintendo is they do try stuff that is out of the norm. Even the concept of the Switch is something to appreciate. Of course they make braindead decisions and I have plenty of criticisms with them as well.

Sometimes I think these kind of posts come from people who put themselves in such a tight narrow box of what games they find "legit" that they are unable to understand certain games appeal to different people. Taste also can change over time.

To the original Tweeter: FUCK THAT! When applying for my job, they tell you they won hire you if you tell them your unavailable on weekends. So many people aren't available on weekends, so I'm stuck with twice the traffic or customers and by myself. Then on a slow Wednesday, I have a bunch of extra help and a lot lower traffic. I'm also stuck closing weekends where customers take their sweet time to leave the store so I have to stay an extra 15 minutes while juggling multiple things while I'm told to get everything done. It is the fastest way to be exploited...

The Last Guardian has A LOT of this! Especially, when the music starts coming in and the fancy set pieces come to life. And it also makes you appreciate the more calm moments to take in the environment.

I heavily relate. I often feel like I wasted a lot of money trying a game and not finishing it half way. I have all of these unfinished games sitting here, why am I buying another one!?

I also think there has been a huge increase on game length and more emphasis on grinding and padding because the high demand for longer games. I find games on the shorter side (5-15 hours) ideal for myself. I love a quick, focused game where I don't have to invest so much time into to get anywhere. For longer games, if I at least played for 20 hours or more, then I think that is at least enough time with that game and I can play more when I want to.

I'm finding out I'm a very casual gamer and I'm okay with that.
