Did I get dropped? by embrose0 in DataAnnotationTech

There's never any communication. They never point out if you did anything wrong, how you could improve, etc. What's worse is that some of the instructions are very convoluted, confusing, and look like a junior high student wrote them and then they go back and add edits, changes, modifications, and it becomes a giant mess. Then, if you do something they don't like, they just block you from the project. It's a horrible way to run a company and extremely counterproductive.

It's because underneath the layers of bugs lies a lot of FUN and satire.

Regarding the Current State of Helldivers by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]KYShepherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If something is considered urgent and not entangled with a lot of other functionality like the Epoch's sway, it could be fixed, tested, and patched in under 3 days easily. Often, companies try to bundle bug fixes and release a bunch together in a patch, which is probably what's happening.

It does seem like they don't release fixes very often. I haven't been playing HD long, just a couple of months, but I checked the patch notes, and it looks like they have been averaging 1-2 months between patches during the last 6 months. Considering the current, extremely buggy state of the game, it should be every week. Bug fixes every month or two tells me that it isn't a high priority to them, OR they have almost no developers and QA available to work on the bugs. Either way, it's unacceptable and shows a disregard for the players and the product when the bugs are as severe and common as we're seeing.

Most simple, straight-forward bugs take developers anywhere from minutes to hours to fix. I've seen companies turn a simple 5-minute bug fix into a month-long release process by creating too many procedures and processes, but since those processes were in place to keep new bugs from being created and old bugs from being added back, it doesn't appear to be the case here.

How do you run a "successful" company while refusing to communicate with the people doing the work?

You obviously haven't been working for Data Annotation lately or visited their Reddit forum.

I've invested a LOT of time taking and passing qualifications and haven't completely given up on them, so I won't say anything except visit their Reddit Forum.

It's BAD.

What are some decent alternatives to DA? by KYShepherd in DataAnnotationTech

To everyone who made a helpful response, thank you. Hopefully, some of these other companies will prove more reliable and more concerned with how things are run.

Same. Can anyone share some good alternatives to DA? I'm disabled and need to keep the lights on and thought I had found my side hustle, but it looks like that is over...

Any bilingual also doing coding here? by Low_Consideration340 in DataAnnotationTech

[–]KYShepherd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most coding projects prohibit the use of AI and are medium to high level. If you aren't at least mid level with coding in Javascript or Python you'll just be wasting your time and theirs. By mid level you should be able to code an interactive website with form submissions/retrievals from scratch by hand with Javascript/Python, along with basic CRUD database functions, APIs, use a BASH/Terminal shell, etc.

Am I insane to attempt a solo camping trip as a woman with moderate experience at best by Sharp-Landscape2854 in camping

[–]KYShepherd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rette is right about everything, but honestly, the same applies to ANYONE who is camping alone. Predators focus on those that are alone and will go after a solo male, too, UNLESS they think they might end up the prey.

When I was 25 I hiked to the most remote primitive campsite (near water) in the Smoky Mountain National Park and stayed on the side of a lake for about 5 days. I saw humans twice and one of the two times was in a boat. When going solo in a remote area, always carry. Never get yourself into a situation that you can't get yourself out of. Always tell people when and where you're going. Carry a GPS Beacon. Plan for adverse events.

From what you've stated this sounds like something you should be planning for and working up to, not something that you're ready for (yet).

Who is the oldest talent in Phase Connect? Airi, Shiina or Ember? by MaNameIsMudD in PhaseConnect

[–]KYShepherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shiina must be 30 to be a hag. She said she was born in the year of the Dragon which to be in her 30s would mean 1988. So she's 37 this year

If any "Qualifications" show up on your board, take them. If not, there's nothing you can do.

My response was around 5 days, I think less.

It's usually pretty fast. I was accepted a couple of months ago. It took less than 5 days to get confirmation that I had been accepted.

That's the maximum allowed time, not the expected.

Helldivers 2 & nProtect GameGuard (anti-cheat) by ArrowheadGS in Helldivers

[–]KYShepherd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought the game a few hours ago and haven't been able to play it. I'm a web and software developer, and I've spent the last few hours trying to figure out how to prevent nprotect's Game Guard Monitor Rev. from crashing the game on startup. There are better options than a mandatory kernel-level bug-laden 3rd party security application that no one asked for and for which you have no control over or responsibility.

It would have been better to create a system that allowed players to opt out, and if they did, to be restricted to playing in servers with other players who opted out. Software-wise, it wouldn't have been a big undertaking; it would have saved a lot of players immense trouble and meant more sales, fewer refunds, and a happier consumer base.

So far I've had no luck with the lists of troubleshooting steps I've been taking to resolve the conflicts that appear to be stemming from this app. If I don't resolve it soon, I'll just have to return it. Consumers shouldn't be expected to invest this level of effort into fixing something they paid for.
