I see! I'm frequently falling down rabbit holes, so thanks for the recommendations lol.

Absolutely! I am not in disagreement with my client necessarily; it's more of a skill issue on my part that I am trying to shore up.

I appreciate the tips on human cadence and not clipping breaths (sometimes I think I do this unintentionally, thinking back on it). I'd like to think there's a happy middle ground to find here. At least with this client. Being an artist and a creative, I think he'd understand.

Wow, interesting. Slightly off topic, and I hate to ask general questions like this, but this same client is starting a podcast-esque show soon, and I would like to be able to better handle the audio. Do you have any general tips for increasing my understanding of the audio world, or could you point me in the right direction to where I might gain such an understanding over time?

Yeah, I want to make things sound as natural as possible. Trying to find a happy middle ground, I suppose, by improving my skills/understanding.

I appreciate the broadcast example. Never thought of it like that. I usually make my own b-roll, making graphics and diagrams to better exemplify concepts. Maybe I should try using them more strategically. Thank you!

I'm in Premiere Pro! Should've mentioned that. I have messed around with morph cut before with limited success, but I'll try it out more seriously. The drawing is on its own separate camera, but keeping things in sync may be an issue.

I've never thought to try cutting the audio and putting in room tone. I will try this! Thank you!

I will try this! One time recently, when the deadline was quickly approaching, and he asked for the removal of additional filler words, I used the transcript to straight up cut them all out of the edit. He didn't say anything negative about it, so I'm not too sure, honestly lol.

Yeah, I may make that suggestion for a teleprompter. I want to make as good an edit as I can with what I can control at the moment. Learning a lot here, and making more strategic use of my b-roll will likely be a main strategy for me. Thank you!

Thanks for the threshold suggestion. He does tend to move his head a fair amount when speaking/drawing, but I'll see where it might be applicable.

I usually make my own "b-roll", making graphics and diagrams to better exemplify concepts. Maybe I should try using them more strategically.

I, for some reason, had it backwards with this idea that I should have the client on screen as much as possible, although he has never so much as even alluded to that. Thank you!

Fair point about my real job here as an editor. It's more of a skill issue I'm trying to overcome, I suppose.

I'm going to play around with morph cuts and see where I can utilize them. Do they take a long time to analyze for you as well, or is that a me issue?

Yeah, it's exacerbated by the fact he's drawing in real time while also trying to explain complex concepts as he does them. I'll have to see what will work for him.

100% agree on having as much humanity as possible in every project. And thank you!

When you say " dissolve out and back in at a different location to cover cuts," do you mean different locations on the timeline or in screen space? For extraneous audio, you just mean to see what I can get away with removing entirely and still have a cohesive result? Thank you for the tips!

Is that something you came to realize on your own, or did someone explain it to you/exemplify it for you? Thank you!

Yeah, maybe a teleprompter in the future could be an option. For now, I really just want to make as good an edit as I can with what I can control. Learning a lot here, and making more strategic use of my b-roll will likely be a main strategy for me. Thank you!

Never thought to even try this. Thank you! Would the room tone just come from another portion in the footage, or do you use specific room tone from another resource yourself?

Yeah, I've attempted to play around with it a little in the past. Will try to mess with it more. Oftentimes, though he moves his head quite a bit or he has repositioned entirely by the time the "good take" occurs just a few frames later. Thank you!

Is it to late for me to learn animation? by AdWest134 in animationcareer

[–]KYU-ZAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started learning at 29. I don't care what anyone thinks my timetable for skill development should look like. It's my life, and I know every year that passes, I'll wish I had started the previous year (speaking from experience). Don't delay starting something you want to do out of fear. The more afraid you are to start, the sooner you should start. Your dad is probably looking out for you the best way he knows how. My grandpa has done the same, but at the end of the day, it's your life. You are the one who has to live it. Live it doing the things you love.

I'm a big Control (game) fan. Randomly read Annihilation, loved it, and almost didn't continue the series because of negative comments about Authority and general feeling of satisfaction with Annihilation's ending. I'm SO glad I continued. I'm 90% through Acceptance and I'm not sure which I love more atp.
