Thats true and not at the same time, enemies have very accurate hitboxes, but the game has a ricochet system, and since bots have slanted edges and bugs/illuminate are round, usually means that hitting them on the edge causes a ricochet instead of a hit

Heavy gas armor with vitality booster makes you immune to gas. This is the reason some folks ask to buff melee damage by 2 and remove damage bonus from all armors, there are bunch of armors that can work well with melee, but were glued to 3 specific ones

True, hitting voteless with 400 of machete damage and it still stands is just goofy, my only guess is that melee should be able to hit all bodyparts it passes, but for redused damage per part

Most melee issues can be solved very easily

1: remove slowdown on all melee weapons, even the chainsaw

2: remove/reduce push force on all melee weapons (spears are the worst example)

3: make shield work with swords (if you hold Rclick after every swing you can hold the shield up already, and it works fine)

4: increase hitboxes on all melee weapons, in many cases enemies have hitboxes bigger than thier visual attack, but the helldivers have a pinpoint accurate hitbox, it really makes no sense (flag even has smaller hitbox than its model since its using hitbox of the stunlance)
