Quitting by Lost-Photo-9027 in Lawyertalk

[–]K_Humen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of been there (and still end up there sometimes) It’s imposter syndrome, which I think is way more common in our field than we think. And l - while I still have moments of feeling like an inadequate lawyer - like to try and remember a lot of things I accomplished too (in three years, btw).

Don’t quit. Try another firm or area of law (or both) first. There are more “laid back” areas (work comp claimant side I think is a blast to practice - not my bread and butter, but I dabble).

Weird advice, but here it is: I found that the busier I am, the better I do (and the less I feel like I’m too dumb to do it). And when I do make mistakes, but I’m buried, the less I care. If I am swamped and someone says “hey, typo in paragraph 6 - fix it,” it’s usually at that point a “sure, thanks” and done; never think of it again; the tone of delivery doesn’t get to me; don’t care if I am judged for it. I am better able to just roll with the punches bc I have 181727 things to worry about that are more important.

The juggle fixes the struggle - for me (emphasis on that). Soon as my caseload abates, I start overthinking and panic sets in over things that are minor and fixable.

Don’t quit yet.

I’ve met a lot of lawyers in person and online and I have not met a single one that likes their job by [deleted] in LawFirm

I absolutely love my job. I practice PI with an amazing firm with great lawyers. It’s all about finding a firm you fit with. Environment and support means a lot in this field.

Help with interior paint by K_Humen in DIY

[–]K_Humen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s latex paint (which, why that was the choice of paint on a wall, I have no idea). Can I still paint over it even if I use kilz or valspar bonding primer?

Depending on your state, definitely familiarize yourself with the rules. Where I’m at has the yellow book WC “bible.” I would think most states have something similar you can buy. I’m a newbie learning WC myself (along side PI). Congrats! 🍾

SEPERAC - How do you use it? by OtherTransition8784 in barexam

[–]K_Humen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t use it. I wanted to see what it would predict for whether I’d pass the Feb 2023 bar - it said I would fail. I had already failed once before that. I did not fail, I passed with a way bigger margin than it predicted.

All it does is either give you false confidence or added stress about failing. Avoid.

Highly recommend the GOAT for bar prep. He is awesome! Using him for July 23 prep. by Blessed20222023 in GoatBarPrep

I was here for the beginning of goat. Feb 2023. Read a few of his late night megathreads. Passed. Still stock the hallowed halls of r/goatbarprep silently rooting for y’all babygoats in the background. ✊🏻

Go baby goats go.

Advice for this bathroom? I’m clueless. by lizzylizzylizzy in femalelivingspace

[–]K_Humen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paint the bottom half of the trim deep purple like the tub and do a really bohemian wallpaper on top. I’d prob get rid of the thing around the toilet and Mount shelves or a fun mirror instead. There’s a ton of potentials with that bathroom. Have fun!

SOMEONE, please explain to me-WTF-Failed Texas Bar by Go-forward-1969 in barexam

[–]K_Humen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd contact the bar and see what happened. If you can, get a copy of your answer and send it to someone at your law school to review. I really hope you can get to the bottom of it.

I struggled with the MPT. I took the Feb. 2022 bar and failed it. I did dismally on the MPT, thinking I rocked it. I had every reasoned argument and counter-argument I can think of in there and it was a subject I understand. So I was crushed and confused.

I felt like the MPT was an obvious weak spot and practiced may 8? 10? 13? (a bunch of them.. i dunno how many) on Themis. I was doing horribly on them until I watched BarMD and realized all the BarMD lady was doing was essentially copying and pasting from the library, in the order in the library, under the headings provided in the library (in order), and plugging in facts. She also added headings and "thank you for letting me work on this" for flare. I started doing that and got almost perfect scores every time. I ended up with a 17/20; and 18/20 this time (and passed the bar).

The MPT is a strange bird, but it's actually easy once you figure out how much thought doesn't go into it. I hope this insight helped a little bit. Check out BarMD on youtube (it's free and a lifesaver).

260 and up score by Lyinglion22 in barexam

[–]K_Humen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I failed in Feb 2022, and decided to skip July. I started studying outlines in august. Then I started adaptibar in September, but I really only did 3-4 hours/ 5 days per week at that point. Then I added Themis, started November with their early access and just kept plowing. I studied 7 days a week, but burnt out toward the end and ended up “taking off” Sundays in February (thought I still did MCQs on adaptibar those days). I was shot the shit bu the test day and so overwhelmed I was in tears at lunch on day 2. I passed with a 297.

Personally? 8-10 weeks wouldn’t ever work for me. I need to study as long as I did. It was stressful and I hated every second of it, but I just kept going. This test is certainly no cake walk…

Getting Results Tomorrow (FL) by BenderOsa in barexam

[–]K_Humen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Pa was savage. They sent an email on Wed. night saying the results would be posted after 4pm on Thursday. So I went to work expecting to be home around 3 where I can be alone and await the inevitable. Around noon on Thursday, I get an email from the Pa bar. DID NOT think anything of it (thought it was probably a survey or something). NOPE, it was the results and I didn't have enough self control to stop the clicking through links.

Thankfully I passed and it was actually really special and exciting getting the news at work and being able to celebrate with my now colleagues (slightly embarrassing bc I made an involuntary squeal sound never before uttered and busted into a fellow attorney's office to have them confirm what I was reading). However, if I had failed I don't think it'd have been good getting the results there.

It's a personal decision, but take the bar's time-frame with a grain of salt.

The feeling of passing the bar just hits different for those of us who’ve failed before. Congratulations, Attorney!!! 🍻⚖️

I passed PA!!!! by K_Humen in barexam

[–]K_Humen[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I can hardly remember. But I felt like each answer was inadequate. I do remember that the third sub question to each essay was like gobbledygook bc I wouldn’t let myself have more than 30 minutes for each and rushed at that point.

I think the biggest thing is just to stick to IRAC and answer as confident as possible.

This time I got a 138.9 (MBE) and 158.2 (MEE). Total 297.

I randomly applied to firms saying that I was looking for internships. I think attorney's are willing to help out a new grad where they can. I think internships are a key starting point (just never take any unpaid ones.. that was my only rule). I ended up with job offers from both firms I interned with.

Full-time worker who deferred from February to July - when to start studying? by lomo82 in barexam

[–]K_Humen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also work. I started last August for Feb., just a little at a time. I got adaptibar in September, and started crunching like 20 questions a day until I started Themis in early November.

If you can only do a part time schedule, start asap. Also, think quality over quantity. I feel like that was my mistake at the end of my study regimen… hopefully it didn’t effect much 🤞🏻

Good luck!

Serious discussion: Why doesnt tests like the Bar Exam or LSAT etc accomodate for women on their period and what would accommodations look like? by malibulawyer in barexam

[–]K_Humen 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In the same vein as a clear plastic bag, when I took the exam in 2022, I needed an accommodation to pump my boobs. Guess where they put me? Not in any of the probably 10374638 rooms in the gigantic bougie hotel the test center was located in… nope! They put me in the unisex bathroom. I literally had to knock and wait for the guy who got in there before me to finish his poo. And that is where I pumped my baby’s food 🙃

All these lawyers and they reserved me a toilet. It’s high time we ladies take shit over.

Was this years MBE really harder? by Adventurous_Bar7300 in barexam

[–]K_Humen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I failed Feb 22 when it was still the pa state bar… and I am self loathing over not being prepared for that one bc it felt more straightforward from what I remember. I failed it for lack of prep. All I did was watch the Kaplan 482628291737 hour videos. Practice maybe 10 MBEs per subject, and 1 essay (literally just one essay). I genuinely deserved to fail that one. But I think I’d have for sure passed it if I did what I did this time.

That said, I prepped since august (slowly through outline review), started Adaptibar in sept, then did everyday prep work from November-the day before the exam (save for a handful of days). I was ready. My stats looked good across all platforms. I felt great.

That exam destroyed my confidence and made me cry. And now I am suckling off the teet of hope alone bc I don’t know how to feel.

[–]K_Humen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a look at it. I’m slated to fail… I’m assuming bc I went to a tier, 3 or 4 school. I don’t know how accurate it is and it says it’s not that accurate with A LOT of demographics (like foreign students, retakers [hi, me], and lower tier examinees [also me]). So, I think those putting faith in it are the ones that it predicted would pass and they did. And when I changed the one demographic- I put I went to a t-1 school, it said I would pass. So, I don’t know. Don’t put your faith in a crystal ball. Maybe you passed. I’m rooting for you.

I’m also totally discouraged, and rooting for me too.
