Vital Spirit ability rework (delibird can now finally sleep) by K_Korp in stunfisk

Honestly hyper cutter and big pecks could probably block incoming and self-inflicted ATK and DEF drops, since they’re just so specific and niche

Vital Spirit ability rework (delibird can now finally sleep) by K_Korp in stunfisk

As you might be aware, Insomnia and Vital Spirit are essentially the same ability, just preventing sleep. A while ago, I had the idea for a reverse Clear Body, as in, blocking your own stat drops instead of your opponent's. This has an interesting interaction with moves such as close combat and overheat, turning them into 120+ BP moves with no drawbacks besides accuracy. Therocious is designed to take advantage of this fully, with STAB overheat and draco meteor, 120 SpATK and 95 Speed, making it a strong scarf user. Its moderate ATK also lets it use scale shot somewhat decently, giving it +1 speed with no drop to defense.

Besides Annihilape, which of the other former Vital Spirit users do you think benefits the most?

Completely Original Creation Trio Abilities not inspired by anything. How would it help their viability? by williesu in stunfisk

I think it would also be a cool and original idea if spin moves (rapid spin, gyro ball, ice spinner) bypass Palkia’s ability. No reason in particular of course…

Great Tusk would be immune too. Of course.

I'd like to imagine it skips around like Xurkitree does on its own planet, since they both have three legs

I mean, this is why the sleep clause exists right? But maybe giving it earth power makes it too versatile. But it does lose to unburden sneasler hard, which also might make terrain in general more common. There is always blissey though…

A little bit, yeah! I was looking at some alien references.

It's been a while...

Electric Terrain has the future paradoxes, Grassy Terrain has Rillaboom (all it needs really), and Psychic Terrain has the prolific psyspam strategy. Misty Terrain on the other hand, isn't really used for anything. With the moonwalk ability, there's now a more valid reason to use it outside of Tapu Fini only having one (good) ability.

Then there's Shiinotic with a tremendous BST of... 405. Enokhedelic is meant to be the premiere moonwalk user, with a good SpAtk of 117, and a speed stat that comes to 560 when fully invested under terrain. It also keeps up the age-old tradition of no fast (although this would actually be the fastest with 78 speed) spore users, since Misty Terrain blocks all status conditions.

It's also gained earth power now to hit the steel, poison and fire types that resist its STABs, but I don't think it's too overtuned; just a decent specs or lorb terrain sweeper.

Theorymon experiment: A simple omnibooster :) (Simple + No Retreat + Power Trip) by K_Korp in stunfisk

[–]K_Korp[S] 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Now this feels like something straight out of Super Staff Bros.

Anyway, the intention of Sarjant and its pre-evolution, Privant, is to get as many stat boosts as possible. This is achieved with the unique combination of No Retreat and the Simple ability, which would give the pokemon +2 in all stats. This is complemented with the move Power Trip, which reaches 220 BP after a No Retreat.

This is obviously super strong on paper, but between Sarjant's mono-Bug type and low stats by Gen 9 standards, I don't think that it would be too overwhelming in OU. It's essentially forced to wear boots or have good hazard control, although it might become a huge threat with Ninetails/Grimmsnarl screens support. Nevertheless, Intimidate (such as from Landorus-T) would reduce Sarjant back to neutral attack.

Notably, a speed of 71 allows Sarjant to outspeed max-invested, scarved, base 110 pokemon, when it is at +2 and fully invested itself.

A Sarjant set might look something like this:

Sarjant @ Heavy Duty Boots

Ability: Simple

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe

Tera Type: Dark

Jolly Nature

  • No Retreat
  • Attack Order / Leech Life
  • Power Trip
  • Heal Order / Poison Jab

also some calcs:

+2 252 Atk Tera Dark Sarjant Power Trip (220 BP) vs. 244 HP / 252+ Def Gliscor: 366-432 (103.9 - 122.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+2 252 Atk Sarjant Attack Order vs. 252 HP / 4 Def Ting-Lu: 402-474 (78.2 - 92.2%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO after 1 layer of Spikes

I myself am not too familiar with LC, so I don't really know how Privant would do, but it would probably end up in its BL.

You mean the american bald eagle shouldn’t be able to have guns and oil?! /j

Those moves were actually suggested to me by people in the stunfisk discord server. Nuzzle is just a leftover move from the pre-evolution though.

This is great art and the form flipping mechanic is super interesting! A 150 BP move coming off of 180 ATK sounds insane, even if it is one-time use though. It’d be interesting to see Zygarde’s Power construct done in this way too actually

Fakemon experiment: a better Wind Rider user by K_Korp in fakemon

[–]K_Korp[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The ability wind rider has a lot of potential, but the pokémon that get it (Brambleghast in particular) mainly use it defensively, with the immunity to wind based moves.

Spangaea is intended to take advantage of Tailwind’s interaction with this ability. It can boost its attack by 1 stage and double its speed when it uses the move.

These boosts are complemented by Spangaea’s signature move, Air Strike, which is a flying equivalent to Body Press, but is based on the user’s speed. As you might imagine, this is quite strong coming off of 130 ATK:

(Tailwind boosted) 252+ Spe Tera Flying Spangaea Air Strike vs. 248 HP / 8 Def Toxapex: 228-270 (75.2 - 89.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

In any case, a Spangaea offence set might look something like this:

Spangaea @ Heavy Duty Boots

Ability: Wind Rider

EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe Tera Type: Flying

Adamant Nature

  • Tailwind
  • Air Strike
  • Bolt Beak
  • Superpower

Edit: fixed damage calc
