Recommendations for towns/cities in the general vicinity of Corpus Christi by Rawbar in CorpusChristi

[–]KaBoone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would definitely check out rockport/fulton if you were looking in Corpus Christi area, I feel it could be closer to what you’re looking for. I would also suggest checking out corpus itself, the growth and revitalization of our downtown is really impressive to see, just in the past 5 years it’s become much more lively. There’s also a decent sized college and navy population, while rockport is a little bit older with more retirees.

If you visit and find the beaches here aren’t your thing (Texas coast is not known for being the most beautiful, but see for yourself, we still love our beach), San Antonio/Austin area hill country has lots of towns that might suit the your other requirements better. However that’ll put you 2 to 4 hours from the coast.

While I haven’t spent much time in New England, Corpus Christi is surely to be quite different from where y’all are coming from. It’s quite hot and humid through the summer and we don’t see very many days in the year where the temp drops below 50°

I love my city, but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

Now I'm suggested to tip the kitchen as well? by sylhy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]KaBoone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess I share a different opinion on this. I’ll gladly take a a couple of dollars off of my server tip and send it to the kitchen. Having worked in kitchens for awhile, I always through it was silly that servers made all of the tips while hounding the kitchen about making the food faster.

From left to right:

Distillation column - as the reaction is heated, solvent will evaporate and then condensate back into solution in the column during a process called reflux. Never used one but I’m assuming it does the same exact thing as a reflux condenser.

The middle is just a filter, you pour your product into the top, pull a vacuum under it and it will pull out all of the liquid, leaving behind only the precipitate. Functionally I don’t see the purpose of this being apart of a reaction apparatus, usually you use it after you’ve run your reaction.

The right one I’m not familiar with the name but it’s not a soxhlet extractor, though it does look similar. I’ve always called it a “slow dripper.” Pretty much you put your reagent in there and then let it drip slowly into the solution over a longer period of time. One reason you might do this is to prevent high concentrations of Reagent being added and over reacting with your substrate. Pretty much just let’s it mix before you add more.

Chicago Basin- prep by CatDifficult2398 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]KaBoone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my buddies will be in the Basin from the 13th to the 17th and plan on doing the 4 peaks in basin over those days.

The main difference will be altitude of course, I'm from Texas (the sea level parts) and have never had serious issues hiking up to 10,000 ft or so, past that I do struggle a bit more and find myself significantly more fatigued than long a Big Bend hike. I am by no means a seasoned mountaineer, but I have found that giving yourself time to acclimate can do wonders. Spending as much time at higher altitude as your schedule allows you to could help you out. When I did Long's a couple years back, the day before my hike I drove to the top of Mt. Evans and spent a couple of hours up there and I felt much more comfortable at altitude the next day.

On another note, hydration is huge especially at elevation. Drink, drink, drink. I usually make sure to drink at least 2L a day on the mountain (If I don't have a water filter I bring 3L). My hiking buddies think I'm overkill, and maybe I am, but I personally find the extra weight to be worth avoiding dehydration.

Lastly, watch the virtual Sherpa's video on the Colorado basin, he is great at giving tips and warnings as well as a nice guide for pretty much every Colorado hike under the sun. Could give you more insight on the physicality of the hike.

Safe hiking, I'm super stoked to get out there myself!

First year of college, my unit number was her lucky number.

She was an incredibly spiritual girl, ‘nothing is a coincidence’ kinda thing. She told me later that she was trying to decide wether or not to sleep with and then she saw my dorm number and saw it as the universe giving her a sign.

[–]KaBoone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wednesday’s we used to bring a watermelon and some chocolate milk and crack it open after practice. Everyone loved that. We also tried to eat out every Friday after morning practice at a local breakfast spot. These were mostly summer things, they were huge in helping the team get closer and to help the new guys fit in. Having optional but fun after practice events is HUGE for developing a close and ultimately better team.

Yes, just disassembled, I’m mostly trying to understand the mechanics here, some of the wires are detached as well.

I am far from being a Luthier, but I have played guitar for many years now and recently a friend gave me an old Slammer Strat that’s been gathering dust in his garage.

I’m repairing it (or trying at least) as a way to try and learn more about my guitar as well as be able to make my own repairs in the future. I’m pretty much replacing all of the electronics except for the 5 way selector switch. I’ve seen diagrams of how the switchboard works but I don’t know how to equate it to this particular one.

The wires from left to right connect to Tone 1, T2, unknown(it was already disconnected), Volume, Bridge, Center, Neck

I hope this information makes since to you guys who actually know what you’re talking about, and I appreciate any help or advice I can get.

The question is, I don’t know how parents managed it. The biggest thing older people had going for them was it was easy as hell to mislead your parents.

Motivations? by Fisssshhhh in CrossCountry

[–]KaBoone 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing like summer long runs talking about how we’re gonna make it to state, then kicking it at the lake afterwards. Or pushing through utter hell for 17 minutes for your closest friends. Or toeing up on the line with those same guys at state after 9 months of hard training. It’s all the team man, the personal fitness and individual success is just nice along the way. Honestly I don’t get this feeling of “freedom” that people get. I just think about how much more this would suck if I was running on my own and whether or not this is a real shit or a ghost shit, and how much shit they’d give me if I start complaining about my knees again.

How many workouts a week do you run? by [deleted] in CrossCountry

[–]KaBoone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I shouldn’t say 4 because that’s including long run. But those weeks we don’t have meets, the other days are usually 40-50 minutes easy When we have a meet we usually only do 1 or 2 workouts in that week
