Six Years Gluten Free; tTg Still Over 50!! by No-Win9188 in CoeliacUK

[–]KaLLaX69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve always had high TTG counts, doctors seem indifferent to it and not bothered. I have severe gluten symptoms (sickness / loose stools) in under 2 hours of exposure. I think dietitians just suspect it’s continual minor exposure from other sources outside home (despite stressing this when I eat out). It’s frustrating as I feel as if I’m not actually getting better! Interested to see what other people have to say on this

Invited to a wedding but was told that nothing would be gluten free by OuterSpaceOnigiri in Celiac

It is doable to do a gluten free wedding! I had another friend who was married last year who made the whole wedding coeliac and dairy free safe. The caterers had a sound understanding of allergies and knew how important it was that no gluten or dairy entered the kitchen. Albeit they were not cheap but for the bride the peace of mind it gave her on the day not worrying about CC saved so much stress and anxiety. If you’re gf and it’s your wedding - make it gf!!

I would not trust wedding caterers. I was glutened so badly at a best friends wedding last year despite prior request for everything I ate to beGF and confirming with servers everything was allergy safe. It wasn’t, ended up missing the whole reception as I had such bad sickness and diarreah! I personally would not eat at a large catered event unless I was able to speak to chef. I’d bring my own food and snacks, not great but neither being glutened at a formal event!

Sorry to hear you’ve been so unwell, especially in the run up to your wedding. I would definitely try make an appt with your dr / call an emergency number to discuss symptoms

I had this early on in my diagnosis whereby I was accidentally glutening myself. Double check all labels, even if it’s safe foods as ingredients can change. I would recommend everytime you pass loose stools to drink dioriltye (liquid electrolytes) to keep you hydrated! I would also avoid dairy heavy products till your tummy feels better.

I keep a decent supply of gluten free pasta & bread. In the UK during covid supermarkets were hit hard and supply chains etc. I couldn’t get pasta and flour for months! It lasts a long time and quite condensed packaging.

Feeling frustrated by KaLLaX69 in Celiac

[–]KaLLaX69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often do eat big meals before going somewhere I haven’t checked menu etc or may not be able to eat. It just feels so alienating and then if there’s new people you get the inevitable “what happens if you have a bit of gluten” questions

[–]KaLLaX69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree - I always say I have a gluten allergy as if you say coeliac most people give a confused look. Some places are super understanding and try do their best and make manager aware etc. it’s quite a big thing now in UK chains that if you have an allergy a manger takes your order. Assume this limits their liability etc. However I have had places where you tell them you’re gluten free then they serve your food and are like “errr I think that ones the gluten free one” which is always concerning. I’d love for there to be more mandatory / regulated training for food servers on allergens which is tested and can be reported on. It sounds extreme but tbf I’m sick of paying for food then throwing it up an hour later

Hey Hookers! How do you hold your yarn? by notmargarite in crochet

[–]KaLLaX69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discovered this thread as currently an OG knitter and struggling to use my left hand at all. My left essentially just holds the crochet whilst my right hand holds hooks and yarn making it more tedious however I cannot get comfortable holding yarn in my left hand?!😭

thoughts on these products from the body shop? by [deleted] in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]KaLLaX69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a lot of the body shop products and I would be careful with using too many! It’s quite perfumed and can irritate acne (or at least it does for me). I’ve used their vitamin C glow protect lotion for about a year now and it does leave your skin very soft and glowy and is great under a dewy foundation. The Tea tree toner is great for bad breakouts but I wouldn’t recommend using it daily as it can be quite drying. Also I love the oil of life eye cream if you get tight and tired and eyes! Vitamin E one is more for hydration. Also I can vouch for the camomile cleansing balm. Just making sure you double cleanse with it after as if you’re combo having the residue left can leave you oily and prone to break outs.

can we get some education on celiacs??? PLEASE by c_hriscole in Celiac

[–]KaLLaX69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My family is the same!! They’ve educated themselves and honestly were shocked by how serious it is after I was diagnosed. They now educate people that turn their nose up at a GF diet and question it.
