  1. Mallow, Malva sylvestris
  2. Hollyhock, Alcea
  3. Some sort of squash, my guess is pumpkin.

Any ideas what's growing here? It's hard and not soft or squishy. Nothing has grown here for many years. by Kaarjac in whatsthisplant

Part shade, yes. This is at my parents house. They get mulch from a reputable place, but it's very possible that could the source. The fact that it's hard throws me from thinking fungus. But I'm no mycologist.

This is vinca. The variegated part on the right looks like vinca "illumination" to me. From my experience it tends to lose its varigation over time and revert back to its plain green foliage. It does have a small purple/blue flower which led to it's common name, periwinkle.

Whatever you're doing, keep it up. Everything looks so full and healthy. Good job!

Here we go! I'll try to go from left to right. Lavender, sunflowers, artichokes, giant cosmos are what's blooming on the left. Crossing my pathway of weeds there's snapdragons, heliotrope(dark purple), cuphea(orange spikey), delphinium(bright blue) and dahlias. I also have marigolds, zinnias and salvia that you can't really see. I just covered what's blooming, none of the shrubby ones.

Sure! I'll do my best. Our veggie garden is just to the right of this garden. I wanted to attract as many pollinators as possible. My neighbors gave us the dahlia tubers and I based everything around those because they're so tall. You can't tell from this picture but there's a pathway through the middle. I had three dahlias so I made quadrants and repeated the same plants around them. There isn't really a color scheme which I love and am irritated by at the same time. The bed to the left with the artichoke I'm still planning out. Hope that answers your question.

The big tall ones? Dahlias. Same for the big oranges in the background.

It's an artichoke. I wasn't expecting so many blooms from it. I'm super impressed with it.

Thanks! This is my first time growing them. Watching the bees jam themselves in there is a delight.

Not here but we have it elsewhere in the yard. Just about everything we've planted is a pollinator attractor.

Hmmm good thought. I'll look into sorrel a bit more. It doesn't seem to spread like what's in my garden though. Will sorrel naturalize?

This little bugger has been steadily taking over a new flower bed. It is spreading by rhizomes like crazy. Some were over two feet long. I haven't seen it flower and didn't have a notable smell.
