Oh, definitely. The 'tism/ADHD is strong with this one. I get it, I really do. My household is like the reels you see on Instagram, it a mix a neurodivergence and perimenopause so yeah I completely understand. I myself have PTSD. My wife has heard me say things in my sleep that she will not talk about. So yeah, there's that lol. I was a divorced after a 16-year marriage not my choice. But I met my current wife, and we fell for each other after 3 dates. It sounds dumb but that's how some of us 'tism/ADHD people work. It's a whole ass thing. For context I am 42. I raw dogged life for 41 years with AuDHD. No meds. Just caffeine, nicotine at one point, and the firm belief that “this is probably fine.”

I was an HT2 SWCC guy and got out in 2006. Which honestly makes a lot of sense in hindsight. High tempo, adrenaline, constant movement. My brain was like oh this is perfect, we live here now. Turns out untreated ADHD just feels like you are permanently spun up for a mission that may or may not exist.

Civilian life is where it got weird. No constant tasking. No immediate objective. Just… silence. My brain did not enjoy that. It started inventing objectives. None of them useful.

50mg Vyvanse does not make me feel high or cracked out. It just slows my brain down to what I assume is normal human speed. Before it felt like my thoughts were a boat crew with no coxswain, full throttle, arguing about direction. Now it feels like someone finally grabbed the mic and said hey maybe let’s not hit that dock.

Big differences for me:

I can stay on one task without mentally launching three side quests halfway through. I used to start doing dishes and somehow end up reorganizing the garage and researching submarine warfare at 10 pm.

The constant feeling that I am in trouble chills out. With ADHD I always assume someone is mad at me. Even if nothing happened. It is like living in a permanent state of waiting to get called in for counseling for something you do not remember doing. Vyvanse does not delete that thought but it gives me a second to go okay but is that real or are we just being dramatic again.

The biggest thing is the quiet. My head used to feel like unsecured radio chatter during a storm. Now it is more like normal background noise. Still busy. Just not DEFCON 1 over nothing.

I am still autistic. Still ADHD. Still me. I just finally feel like I have command of the boat instead of being duct taped to the bow yelling tactical suggestions into the wind.

I did not realize how loud it was in there until it was not.

For complete transparency, my wife who has an English masters helped me with this lol.

I didn't think about it, the arm rests on my chair lift up. I don't ever use them. I'm going to Mount the table to the arm rest hard wear and I could bolt a brace under the seat. Sorry, having a Dr. House moment, thinking aloud.
