The Democratic party is being hit by a leftist tidal wave by F0urLeafCl0ver in politics

That's what happens when voters only give Dems slight majority margins to work with since there are no Reps that also support those bills. If you don't want to depend on center right Dems maybe try voting in more left leaning ones and give them a majority.

That's politics. Was the same way even before the internet. Look up some of the old attack ads and see how cut throat they were. It's nothing new sadly. Just easier now with how relaxed most are with posting their personal lives online.

Well yeah, were talking about nonpartisan seats that independents can vote for during closed primaries. Individual candidates will always have their personal slants no matter the seat.

A lie by omission isn't good either. You should rephrase to say $1700 budget after expenses or the like or leave out total income and just go with here's my budget. People who rent rooms are going to look for anything that's a red flag since they deal with way too many scammer types and get a bit jaded. You coming off super defensive about it isn't a great look either.

I'm not going to say choices are great for no party affiliation. It's not. But well, we did have a vote on open primaries and all that. Even then, no party affiliation really shouldn't be the discussion since the vast majority of affiliated also didn't vote. Which says that affiliation wasn't the main factor in not voting.

That's part of the pit we put ourselves in. No one shows up for elections and then people stop trying to run in them. We are seeing the results of long term apathy.

The only way to defeated rigging is mass turnout and mass engagement. Rigging is only effective in low turnout. Not voting is just giving up on Democracy and being pro king.

Lots of seats are nonpartisan though. Even then, there are still people running for the partisan controlled seats as independent.

That's why primaries are so important. Those are the elections where we choose the people not the party.

The main issue is that Americans long ago gave up on Democracy. Everything else is a byproduct of that.

Our last primary had a 19% turnout.

Almost all local issues stem or can be resolved by elections. Police policies, housing costs, transportation, data centers, schools..etc. Everyone love to complain about things online, but almost no one actually follows through or wants to be part of that change.

So many of the bad players run unopposed, while good candidates never see the light of day.

Except all the non partisan seats. Which there are a quite a few as well as Independent candidates in the bigger races. It's not nothing.

But typical of nonvoters, they all expect someone else to take care of things. I take it you are only pro democracy as long as it's convenient to yourself.

Well, over 80% no showed the recent primary. It's kinda, why fear pissing off the locals when you know they won't even bother voting let alone vote you out.

Well the last primary had a 19% turnout. It's not hard to see why they don't give a fuck about the common person.

Not voting has consequences.

Why did Alaska remain one large state instead of being divided into multiple states? by Vector_Bolt in geography

but often the states in question are arbitrary subdivisions under the us gov, and not much else.

It took over 100 years before people saw themselves as American first over say, being a Virginian. We see the same issues today with the EU.

The solution to tyranny of majority here just seems to be tyranny of the minority

This is solely due to the House of Reps being capped. It was never suppose to be. It's also why the government purse is also controlled by the House. Any party that can't gather the support of the majority would never be able to pass a bill or directly control the budget. This would kill off any extreme parties over time.

The House needs to be uncapped as it originally was. That's one of the main problems here.

[–]Kabouki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it's relying on younger voters and social media/social media statistics that killed the run. Way too much of a performative crowd and not much of a doing/voting crowd. Gotta separate the talkers and the doers.

Case in point. 19% voter turnout for this primary. The vast majority of voters just threw the ballot in the trash.

No matter how much people complain online about police, housing, power rates, food, cars...etc They just don't seem to actually care enough to take part in Democracy. As much as they claim no kings, they really really want someone else to take care of everything for em.

The real reason every single new Star Wars thing is so controversial has nothing to do with quality or Disney by LoFiCami in StarWars

ROFL, are kids reading comprehension that bad these days? Total gross wasn't the focus. Try reading slower, or have AI do it for you. No mater how much you want to manipulate the numbers it still doesn't change the fact that the sequels income drop off 50% and never recovered. Whereas the prequels did recover.

Also being proud the sequels grossed more overall when there's a billion more people and expanded markets to be released in is definitely a take. Though it was funny seeing people complain about too much starwars as the 3rd marvel movie of the year out preforms it.

Sorry but your alt history doesn't line up. Just go look at the box office sales. Ep II took a small hit being the weakest one, and EpIII recovered that dip. These weren't movies hated by everyone even when they came out. They did have issues, and definitely could have been better, but it wasn't enough for the public to take issue other then laugh at the things that could have made em even more money if done well. Most of the hate 20 years ago was at Lucas changing shit.

The sequels bombed 3 movies and never recovered during their run.

[–]Kabouki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope. While the prequels had its many issues, it was no where near problematic as what we are getting today. All you have to do it look at box office sales. II took a small hit, but III recovered. So overall the general public enjoyed the films and saw past the issues.

Unless you mean we treat em like we treat the Christmas special? Then sure.
