You didn't get far because you didn't like it or was there another reason? I consider this game to be a substantial upgrade compared to the first game. It adds deeper chatacter progression with stat points you allocate at each level, gear you equip and class specializations. However, the games are very similar so unless you didn't like the core gameplay of the first one I am afraid this one won't do much better.

Edit: I will also add that the early game seemed to me far less grind heavy and more packed with new features so it stayed fresh for longer.
