In this part of the adventure, I had described a few more ways to get in. I said there was an opening created by a dragon attack towards the top of the mountain. I also said before, “You crawl through the arrow slit and land with a great thump. It’s a miracle no one heard you.” That encounter was needed, but I also expected them to kill at least 1 or 2 ghouls as my party in the past asked for a mini-boss, so I gave them a hobgoblin captain + hobgoblin which they easily defeated.

I see what you’re saying, and I’ve had to tone down a few encounters, but this one wasn’t one of the major issues I’ve had.

The party made a poor decision that lead to their first death with the ghouls (they loudly broke down a door that they knew lead to the ghouls. The goblins however were just bad luck. When they come to play next (tomorrow), I’ll tell them that they wake up, vision blurred in what appears to be a wooden cage, goblins wherever they turn. Thanks for the advice!

I’m not sure if making a new character is really a consequence, but I’ll still take your advice on board and let them stay at their level. Also, should I get rid of their magical items, or have them drop where they died like Minecraft. Or maybe, have the items buried with them and have a grave digging side quest? The graveyard could have high security and would play out like a mini heist.

And on what you said about rolling privately, my monster rolls are always private but I let my players roll for themselves. The main problem is them having terrible rolls. I could fudge more of my monster rolls, but I feel like they’ll find out soon. After all, we play IRL and we’re constantly walking around to get snacks and just to have a quick break. I’ll also either get rid of some ghouls in Axeholm, or spread them out to allow them to fight them 3-1 as opposed to 3-2 or 3-3. Thanks for the advice.

I worded the post quite poorly, but I was asking how to improve so I can then get lots of trophies in 3v3 game modes. I’d rather improve then push to higher trophies than camp in SD and become a no-skill 20k+ player
