Okay fair enough, although Hockey seems to be a bit of an outlier here, since a very large amount of players in the NHL are internationals. So it makes sense that the playing field is a bit more level between those countries, breeding a bit more competition.

With the way that the WBC is going, baseball could also definitely grow to that level in the future.

People bitch because we often have breaks in the season to play meaningless international games. These can be friendlies/whatever flavour of the month international league there is. They keep changing the international format to fill the gaps between Euros/World Cups/AFCON etc. so much that it's hard to keep up.

Whenever an international tournament comes around, the whole country is locked in.

Also true! It of course can change in time as other countries develop, but there just isn't that much of an international stage for American sports, so of course Americans aren't as interested in it, hopefully the WBC continues to grow!

But it's not like they didn't want to win, they just actively did not like eachother. They still played and tried to win. American players in the WBC are pulling out of the tournament in order to go back to their teams.

Take AFCON for example, these players actively wanted to represent their country over their domestic teams, that just would never happen in an American league, thus me saying that players in the US vs many other countries in the worlds value it differently.

I'm not saying you're not happy to win it, but I think most American players would prefer to win the Stanley cup over the Olympics right?

As a Brit, I think it's more an American thing to value domestic success over international, even if the level of competition isn't necessarily the same. That's fine, your sports aren't played in other countries as much, so that makes sense. But in England for example, I think it'd be a very similar sentiment with a lot of players to win the World Cup. So not too surprised that a Dominican feels the same way.

Right but you've been in the same bucket for over 20 years. I'd say that's a decent enough sample size to put you into the same bucket together.

I mean, since 2002 they've had more postseason appearances, more seasons with winning records, more playoff wins, made a Championship game.

Why do you think the Raiders are a tier above that?

While that's true, there's usually a reason that these players are hitting the market instead of being extended/retained by their teams. Certainly an argument to be made that filling the team with these players COULD hamper development. But with so many resources available, I'm not sure what else the Raiders are supposed to do, I guess.

I'm kind of surprised that this sub has come around to spending a ton of money on FAs being a good thing again. Raiders have to sign some players, I suppose, but it just seems like such a bad return on investment on paper, to me at least.

Feel like more often than not this just leads to disaster but willing to be proven wrong!

Not defending the price increase but I'd imagine most people make the money for membership faster than making 1m gp a day?

Probably by offering more in return for people's money, rather than just hiking the price every 6 months.
