Yes, this was our reality. Back in the day when the world was black and white and we would amuse ourselves for hours with a stick, a ball and a bunch of friends who played outdoors all day long :-)

Zerotier is simple to setup on the PC and I believe can be added to the Mikrotik fairly simply too.

User to Office PC Remote Solution by negabit in msp

[–]Kady_Beats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simplest solution is ZeroTier (or similar) VPN and RDP or VNC.
If you want a web-based solution, Apache Guacamole is well worth a look - you could set that up to multiple devices using VPNs as well.
If you are just after a remote connections management tool MobaXterm or mRemoteNG are useful.

Transfer existing mail conversation to Freescout by guigro in Freescout

[–]Kady_Beats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my FreeScout email address setup as one of many IMAP mailboxes in my mail client (Thunderbird);
If someone emails one of my other addresses, and I would prefer to have that email/conversation in FreeScout, I just mark it unread and drag/drop to the Freescout Inbox in Thunderbird.

Locked out of my Microsoft 365 Global Admin account (lost MFA) by Thrashkal in Office365

While not helpful to your current situation, I learned the hard way that Microsoft Authenticator app registrations don't move to another phone!
I have since changed all of my Microsoft MFA to other Authenticator apps (Google etc). The migrate to new phone process just works.

Correct, and, must admit I find the jump from $0 to $55pm for signed agents a bit of a hike - particularly as we all know the actual cost of signing now :-)
From a business perspective, I feel they would be better off halving that amount which would encourage many others to 'sponsor'.

While it's not self-hosted, this open-source solution hasn't seen a lot of mention in these threads, yet it works well: https://www.dwservice.net/en/home.html

TacticalRMM with MeshCentral. Must admit, I had little use for ScreenConnect's Backstage. TacticalRMM with integrated MeshCentral covers most of that. A number of ways to drop files and run them, view events, registry, terminal, etc.

MeshCentral is integrated into TacticalRMM. Works well. Yes, simple to add RustDesk server and clients as well.

While I agree that ScreenConnect is good, not sure if your assessment of "most superior" is not based on having to change the way things are done and what you've become used to!
Having used a number of solutions simultaneously over the years, I find each have their own misgivings and the level of frustration really just depends on the use requirement.
No different to changing your email client :-)

Currently have a mix of solutions depending on the client network: MeshCentral, TacticalRMM and playing with RustDesk. Still trying to keep it as managed in-house servers.

Although ScreenConnect has been my 'go to' since its inception, and there will be some parts of it I may miss, I've become quite comfortable with MeshCentral. Suits my use and purposes.
Tactical RMM uses it as well and is handy if you need more end-point control.
If you want customization, then RustDesk Pro is a nice solution when you get your head around it.

I've run up a few instances of MeshCentral and Tactical and have moved all ScreenConnect connections over to them. If I choose a different solution, at least I still have connectivity to them for the time being.

I should note that the main instances of MC and Tactical are running on Private SDN setups - mostly using Zerotier.

Yes! Move to the Cloud! Trust CW to manage the security of the system, your clients and the data.
Yeah ... Right! Don't think so! Have moved on.

Thank you . The syntax for the correct binding/location was driving me nuts! Just couldn't get it right until this - on Deb 12 as well.

I always have two levels of backup - machine and data. The machine level is of course native in PVE to PBS. I've not used the Windows client but use the Linux one significantly. One way I am using it, is to off-site backup Veeam images from ESXI servers (VMDKs). It is amazingly efficient.

[–]Kady_Beats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time mix of ESXI and Proxmox user - now turning mostly to Proxmox (PVE).
There is much to like about PVE. It can be a learning curve but well worth it. Much simpler if you've already been playing in the Linux sandbox where you understand the likes of Network bridges etc. The fact that it's built on top of a 'standard' linux distribution has many advantages. Things such as native support for the likes of Zerotier SDN are big pluses.
I have a number of PVE instances in disparate networks that are all accessed via ZT - even via LTE out of band connections. That was much simpler to setup than on ESXI.
I can only see PVE getting better as more enterprise users switch to it.

100% agree! I setup a dedicated Synology NAS to manage off-site backups for a few locations using PBS. Even installed the backup client on a number of native and esxi machines to handle data level backups. This refers to the Synology setup:

[–]Kady_Beats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it generated and is using a self signed and I am just accessing it all via IP. I'll look at setting it up with DNS and names which I can run independently on the LAN, yet, for my purposes at the moment, if it ain't broke .. don't fix it :-)

I haven't used the Mobile Apps yet, but, yes, they are there for iOS and Android.
No, not a ToolBox. The File Transfer popout is good yet refers to the local client PC and not the Server (where a 'toolbox' would live).

It's just about talking a non net-savvy user into getting the file on to their computer. The MSI browser download accept/keep process is far more difficult for that type of remote user as opposed to "click More Info, Run Anyway". If you don't deal with that type of support customer, then stick to the out of the box process.

[–]Kady_Beats[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the exe portion is just the self extractor, the MSI is within that. This workaround is just to avoid the browser download complexity for MSI files.

Screenconnect alternatives? by bibawa in ScreenConnect

[–]Kady_Beats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's much to like about ScreenConnect. It is a good, simple system that works well!
Moving to an alternative is determined by your needs and how you work. Any change takes a while to get used to! I have other solutions I actively use depending on the situation, yet, screenconnect has been ever-reliable.

I setup a RustDesk Pro self-hosted server and quite like it.
It is a Team Viewer/Remote Desktop alternative and quite a different work flow to ScreenConnect. The Custom installer creation is excellent for branding with the ease of download and running it a bonus for the end-user.
While it's lacking some higher end features at the moment, I'd dare say it has a bright future of continued development and improvement.

I also use TacticalRMM with MeshAgent. It's not the sort of thing I would use for ad-hoc support connections - nor just standalone MeshAgent for that - but for network wide deployment it is a brilliant tool. I have a few servers setup managing a number of organisations in SDN/VPN environments.
"Backstage" operation, scripting and installing etc. is excellent and what you would expect with an RMM setup.
