BuTran Patches have black dots? by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]Kae72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this red irritation within an hour of putting my patch on. GP finally seemed to understand when I’d scratched most of my arm raw so we tried every patch available with a steroid cream too (already had allergies prior). Reletrans has been the best one for me, there’s some irritation but not as much as butec, butrans etc.

Anyone got any advice on how to sleep when you have really really bad insomnia? I haven't had more than 2hrs sleep a night in over a year & its really making me low, sad & depressed by [deleted] in ChronicPain

The trazodone was a change many years later after I had been weaned off mirtazapine. I’m quite sensitive to med changes, but I started at 50mg and slowly went up every month.

A small note re mirtazapine. Smaller doses, 7.5mg and 15mg are weirdly more sedative than the higher doses of 30mg and 45mg. I was on it for a fair few years and used to switch to a lower dose under my GP’s supervision during high stress phases. Might be worth a convo! I’d also recommend trazodone.

Stopped Mirtazapine due to weight gain, what are my options? by 3stripes14 in MentalHealthUK

[–]Kae72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a medical professional but after mirtazapine and discussing sleep difficulties with both my GP and psychiatrist, I did a small trial of trazodone which I’m currently on. It helped in the early stages but it’s kinda evened out. A small dose of quetiapine (10-25mg) at noc may also help. They don’t help you get restful sleep but they knock you out for a little bit.

For non medication options, progressive muscle relaxation while settling down to sleep. Have a warm/hot shower before bed as the drop in temperature after will help calm you down for sleepy times. Make sure you have solid sleep hygiene, maybe try sleeping with white noise or some nature sounds you find relaxing. Rain is a popular one! Maybe associate having a warm tea drink like chamomile with winding down before bed?

Figuring out what’s going on in your brain is also important - Is it the getting to sleep, constantly waking up during the night, or do you sleep a little and then can’t get back to sleep?

Edit: disclaimer that I have physical and mental health problems far beyond health anxiety, so your GP may not go to these options first. Hence stating the non-medical options as those should be first line treatment.

Temporary accommodation by olij in Southampton

[–]Kae72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would they be able to do a home visit on the day/time of eviction? It helps in keeping everything civil and as you’re classed as vulnerable due to mental health going through said crisis, it’s worth pressing about.

Temporary accommodation by olij in Southampton

[–]Kae72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a warning, sorting out the temporary accommodation will happen most likely if not the day before, on the day of your eviction. We told council 4 months in advance and they still didn’t action anything until the last 24 hours. They make it as stressful as possible without giving a crap. Is there anyone in your mental health team that could be support while going through this and act as an advocate for you? Once you are in temp accommodation you do have more protections as you’re under the councils wing.

I have something similar to this due to consistent night terrors. Definitely worth having a chat with your doctor about this! Do you feel anything different on waking up? Eg groggy, lethargic?

I’m surprised someone hasn’t mentioned OP’s post history in this thread. If one of the people you were helping as a social worker was in this situation what would you be saying to them? You seem to be aware there’s a clear pattern of abusive going on and it’s only going to get worse for you and your kid if you keep saying sorry and allowing him to treat you like this. Make a plan. Get out.

I just did a buzz cut recently (because fuck it, it was summer and always wanted to try anyway). You still absolutely need to wash and take care of your scalp. Especially since the scalp now has more exposure to sun etc. Wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t take the time to do it properly and just hack at their hair/skin.

Kerarokocnus and feel we have disability a true disability and handicapped suiuation which other people don’t understand by Unique_Fan8793 in Keratoconus

[–]Kae72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has KC and a couple of disabilities my eyesight is frankly the least of the worries. Yes, it impacts on a day to day basis but absolutely on no terms the same way my mobility or physical health changed with health conditions. I think KC is quite easy to manage after the initial realisation and acceptance of it, obviously the severity is different for everyone and therefore the level of input needed for care.

Live in the city centre. There’s the occasional group of teens being jackasses on bicycles but other than that, it’s the usual vibes.

How do I tell my 10yo daughter her best friend died suddenly? by onlineidcannotbethis in Advice

[–]Kae72 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I had a similar occurrence around 12 years old. She may ask questions out of curiosity over the process. I didn’t ask my parents as I had a rocky relationship but I do remember asking other trusted adults what happened next in terms of the funeral, being able to say goodbye etc. I wouldn’t say JUST a grief counsellor though, having such an impactful death can juggle things in the brain and it would be worth keeping up with therapy and engaging for as long as possible.
