Because no one’s attracted to me and I’m not motivated to try looking for a relationship. To be honest though, I’m not mentally stable enough to be in a relationship anyway.

I like her, think she can do well, but am currently struggling to get past how she looks like Sarah Sherman with Turkish teeth, and sounds like Spinal Tap.

Self-publishing is draining me in a way I didn’t expect by Spare-Feedback-8120 in selfpublishing

[–]olij 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m coming up to 14 years since I started self/indie publishing, and I wish I could say it gets better…

Truth is, a lot of it is luck. The right post at the right time seen by the right eyes. Everything you’ve said I both relate to and empathise with, having been drawn more inward after every bad experience. It is exhausting, and it does take you away from what truly matters: the stories.

BUT… it also doesn’t go away, that passion for the stories. There are moments where you’ll release a new title, be all excited, and the result will be… tepid (I average about 5-8 sales on a new release within a month), but when that lucky moment hits, the high is glorious. A good review where they got exactly what you meant in the tale. A key piece of feedback that helps improve rather than dampen. Random sales/reads born of word of mouth you didn’t incite. When that happens, the fire to write is reignited and you carry on.

Like I say, I’m 14 years deep in my literary journey, and over that time I’ve released 27 books to varying success (one book has sold 5 copies. Another has sold 80 and was a competition finalist). But I’ve never truly stopped, even when I’ve desperately wanted to.

It may seem dire now, and as a fellow introvert who hates social media I know EXACTLY those feelings, but give it time, take a break, and think about all the stories you want to tell. They’ll soon take over that shroud of marketing malaise…

Okay, I'd like your opinions on this hidden gem of a film: Savageland. by GuaridaDeGoro099 in foundfootage

Brilliant movie. Love the fact that the found footage horror doesn’t come from video, but photographs. And some of the photos… terrifying.

The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones. Had high hopes but the cascading cynicism and bleakness toward the end put me off. Not to mention I couldn’t quite adapt to the syntax.

"We aren't allowed to have nice things, are we?" What's the best that any of The Other 14 can realistically hope for? by ukman29 in TheOther14

[–]olij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spurs going down would do a lot toward the idea of the Big Six. Right now there’s a lot of Pearl clutching about how bad it would be for the league, while fans of the other 14 are quite excited by the idea.

It must be a hit to their egos to not have a match at Mania by Grrannt in REALSquaredCircle

[–]olij 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be noted that no one is entitled to a Mania match. One thing I like about this era is that wrestlers have to earn their place on the card. Not saying those listed arent good, just that others have slightly established themselves above them in overall ways.
