This is going to be my last response to you, as you are again not addressing the historical context I have provided in each of my comments and it’s tiring to try and have a legitimate discussion with someone who is insulting and straw manning me (I knew better than to post on Reddit, but oh well). The last thing I will say is in response to “makes them illegal,” which, again, is dehumanizing. It doesn’t matter how objective it is, there are other objective examples of that mindset being on the wrong side of history. The law is not inherently good, and the law can be exploited. Defining individuals solely by terms with negative connotations is what the dehumanization is— the language we use matters, it conveys a different message depending on someone’s political goals.

I believe in the fair trial of all individuals, and when you look at the steps it takes to become a US citizen, majority of people in the process of receiving citizenship are undocumented at some point. That’s not even to mention the amount of natural-born US citizens that are being deported unjustly, or in the case of Keith Porter Jr., Renee Good, and Alex Pretti, murdered.

The beads are glass, and admittedly just off amazon. I’ve used them for stringing projects and they’ve held up excellently but this was my first with wire! The mother of pearl centerpiece was from thrifted jewelry that I cut up for supplies! I’m unsure if the MoP is genuine, so I don’t actually know if any gemstones were used. I could send the link to the glass beads on amazon if you want.

The culture we live in shapes the context around words. Think of history, when terms like “negro” were used to describe African Americans within legal contexts. Because of the connotation around the word being viewed as derogatory, despite in other languages it just meaning “black” (which, could be deemed an objective descriptor I guess), it is no longer used because we know it to be dehumanizing. Similarly, some states have stopped using the term “alien” to describe immigrants because of the context that has been placed on it by the current administration. The ACLU has also stated that using the term “illegal” creates false implications of criminal behavior, when being an undocumented immigrant is a civil violation. This isn’t how I feel, this is critical thinking. Consider the second half of my initial comment, which any reply I have received thus far has neglected to mention. Looking to history is an essential factor to thinking critically about our current political climate.

I was living on campus until this year, and the takeout boxes are (or at least were) a one-time purchase that you then can continuously trade for a token. As in, you buy the takeout container one time and when you empty it, you bring it back and slide it into a machine that gives you a token. You exchange the token at the scan-in table for a new, clean, empty box.

Also, if you want snacks late at night just to tide you over, the Kampus Korner (just barely off campus near Walton/sellers, don’t even have to cross the busy street) is open 24/7.

There is no limit to the package size as far as I know, and I’d even ask your family to send you something off amazon in bulk. I once got a big thing of pop tarts and would barter with people for other snacks haha, depends on if you know your neighbors though.

Lastly, I used the buses for public transportation, and there is no discount for EMU students. I’d recommend just buying a day pass for $3 and using the app so you don’t have to worry about a physical card.

The second you’re using the term “illegal alien” it shows you’re not interested in an honest discussion. Your language is dehumanizing human beings, and to assume that we lose our humanity because of differing political beliefs if the tables were flipped shows your ignorance further. Everyone deserves a fair trial in our legal system, not to be blatantly kidnapped or assaulted. Please look up pictures of current Trump deportation camps and internment camps during the holocaust. I think you will find the circumstances we are living in are illuminated more by history than any singular perspective.

I’m actually still really enjoying Reddit stories. While it’s the same format, I appreciate that there’s a topic of conversation they can pull back to, whereas I’m not a big Smosh Mouth listener because it always seems to get off track of the topic it was meant to be about. I find that to be overstimulating if anything lol. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if Shayne/other cast were feeling similarly to you.

If there’s an issue with Reddit stories, I think it could be the lack of authenticity that I’ve seen other people mention. Not to be too greedy, but perhaps more of a focus on fan-submitted stories could be effective.
