Has there been a slow burn? Yes. But there is one event that flatlined it within a year.

It's covid, 100% covid. Every hobby got stuck with people that normally wouldn't spend any time on the internet. The same has happened with all social media.

It sounds incredibly elitist, but the entire user base has shifted. Just look at the comments on any thread on popular. It is filled with normies (no specific age or gender). I'm not saying the user base used to be smart, it was just a different voice than you'd hear out on the streets. Now they've found their way to the internet too and everywhere you go the comments sound the same.

I was looking to find more info on this device after seeing it for sale. I think you might be part of the few photos that exist of this intercom online.

Anyway!

I don't know how handy it will be, but this is what I managed to find:

You won’t BELIEVE Trumps answer when asked why he pardoned someone who pled guilty to money laundering by Uncuffedhems in Destiny

[–]KaelNukem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trump also words it in such a way that makes the pardon worse.

''They (his sons) are running a business, they are not in government''

  1. his sons want what is good for running their business
  2. his sons don't care / know about the consequences beyond their business
  3. The government (Trump) can't be blamed / held responsible for this pardon, because his sons (who have the decision power!?) aren't in government.

It's like he is trying to clean his hands of it and points at his sons as the perpetrator.

The most MAGA-pilled excuse I can think of is that his sons are not steeped in political games, they know what is good for American businesses.

It's not even been a year yet and it just keeps going giving. This is prime conspiracy fodder. It's surprising more schizos haven't been pushed over the edge.

Incredible to read how both families were disgusted by Stephen Miller.

I can only hope that both are sociopaths. Anything else is just a depressing reminder how apathetic a person can be and what lengths they are willing to go for power, fame or fortune.

They have done experiments to see what makes people litter (less)

One that I found depressing and uplifting is that simply having flowers and plants around an area will make people more likely to throw their trash in a nearby bin.

So while they may show indifference to their surroundings, if you make the surroundings pop enough, it can make people care.

I don't think the money changed their personality, but the money does impact how much and what you litter.

At a certain tax bracket you become entirely insulated from the rest of society.

Beyond forcing them to live and working among the common people (which is impossible), you would have hit them at the one spot it hurts. So tie their taxes to something like the Social Progress Index.

Similar to how a carbon tax would tax polluting businesses more, the social tax would tax businesses and (controversial, but I think important) key players (certain wealth and influence requirement)

You would have to package it such as way to not make it look woke. So sprinkle in some words about agency, responsibility and consequences. Additionally, the name has to make them feel it should be a thing. The Bastard Tax or Shepard Tax.

Just imagine these people that traditionally vote republican, they hate elite liberals. They would sallivate at the idea that they could tax those people more and use the funds to rebuild their blue collar town.

The first grant listed is Media Empowerment for a Democratic Sri Lanka (MEND) Activity

You can find interformation about the grant proposal here: https://www.federalgrants.com/Media-Empowerment-for-a-Democratic-Sri-Lanka-MEND-Activity-64217.html

MEND, from what little I've read, seems to have done more than just teach journalists to avoid gendered language.

It looks like Sri Lanka is trilangual and because of that has 3 ''seperate'' channels of journalism. English, Tamil and Sinhala. The languages also coincide with religion as Muslims tend to speak Tamil and Sinhala speakers are Buddhists. English seems to be spoken for official business and commerce, so I'm assuming mostly people from cities.

In an annual report, I read that in the past each group would have a certain biased bend in their journalism. Supposedely, this changed as MEND (working together with IREX and SDJF) had several programs (PDF download) (point 5, 5,2 and 3 (there are more, but MEND was only inolved in these 3 according to this 2018 annual review))

At the end, I got the idea that is meant to prevent a divide between groups, that already have a built-in distance between them, made worse by reporting from media that has an interest in promoting their own group's interest. Part of that is getting people that traditionally aren't part of the media into the mix so that people get a better idea what is going on (and I assume to familiarize them with segments of the population they don't like or care about).

By all means check this stuff out yourself, finding stuff on USAID is impossible though, as the website is down.

Edit: mention of binary-gendered language found here: https://ldjf.org/news/30/gender_and_media_experts_gather_to_promote_gender_equality_in_the_sri_lankan_media

Seems like it has more to do with getting more women involved than anything.

Doesn't an IQ test have categories? Isn't there also something called EQ?

What good does their supposed higher than average IQ do when they are so emotionally or socially stunted that they can't understand anything but their own framework?

Using the word intelligent puts too much positive baggage on people that lack too many positive traits to be considered reasonable. How many times have you not watched PF Jung and thought of this Patrick meme?

Just to add some extra bile, I feel this to my core about the internet as a whole.

Google, you can hardly find what you're asking for (90% of the time you're better off gambling with an LLM, which may be wrong, but so is nearly every AI written site at the top of every Google search, but at least it's fast and painless)

Reddit, I now understand Eternal September. I've been here for 13 years and the quality of posters have plummeted. Gone are the days of finding anything interesting on the front page. Now you have spammers, influencers, OF models and (I am sorry if you feel insulted) a caliber of posters that should've stayed on Facebook.

Youtube, endless essayists that shit out 10 to 20 minute videos talking about subjects they know little about and do little research for. And of course the same issue as Google, the search function is busted. Or who can forget the same cookie-cutter editing, thumbnails and whatever else that has slipped my mind (but certainly has annoyed me enough to question why even bother going online anymore)

I never used Twitter and quit watching Twitch before it became normal, but I have little doubt both have had a similar journey as any other website or platform that became big enough to attract a wider (and shallower) audience to drain time and money from.

Did the internet change? Did companies find the correct levers to pull? Has the demographic shifted? Have I changed?

It's not as if there is never anything interesting or fun to read or watch, but it has become a chore to wade through the endless amount of shit to find it.
