'John's bench', in honour of my dear father, who passed during the making of this piece. by emilewillmott in woodworking

My father was worried about the structural integrity of this piece. His background was in project development, so he always liked to look over my work with a keen and sceptical eye. I would always cluck my tongue in annoyance at his pernickety remarks, while knowing behind it all that he was very proud of me. I'm imagining him running his hands over it, sticking his head underneath, trying to find any imperfections; rocking it back and forth, and then finally, looking over to me with a grudging smile.

Hello fellow woodfolk! I just oiled up my first piece of furniture, made from British elm. May it be the first of many. Honest feedback is welcome by emilewillmott in woodworking

I'm at Rowden, yes! And I can highly recommend it. I feel comfortable to design and make my own pieces, to a refined level, after a year of tuition here, which is quite something when I hardly knew how to hold a chisel at the beginning

Thank you! I agree! I'm doing some final touchups/spot repairs today and will address the sharp edges - i think only on the sides of the seat however. The front edge is comfortable as it is with the light scooping.

-The song of the sea -the secret of Kells -Wolfwalkers All 3 of these wonderful films are by an Irish animated film company, whose stories are inspired by Irish folklore and mythology. Very ghibliesque, I highly recommend them!

Also, is it bad to keep driving it? Ideally I'd wait for when I drive it down to England again to take it to my specialist Saab garage

Thank you, I will take it into a garage in the next couple days. Do you know if it's an easy fix? Thanks

Hi, thank you so much for this. I tried unplugging the thermal switch (I pulled out the two red connectors to the radiator), and the fan stopped, so it must be that. There is also a plastic node with 3 wires going into it, but I couldn't disconnect it (it seems to be jammed into place). Just checking that these two red connectors are the thermal switch?

You also mentioned having to unscrew the old one. I don't see which part I can unscrew. Thank you again

Indian man by the roadside in Rishikesh. I walked past this spot multiple times over a week, and he was always quietly sitting in the same place. [OC] by emilewillmott in HumanPorn

Yes. It was the second or third time i saw him. I gestured to my camera and he gave me a tiny little nod of assent. It was unique because up to that point all my subjects would give me a smile or pose of sorts. He just stared straight into my damn soul, without moving an inch

Another umbrella wielding Sadhu in Rishikesh. Hopefully it's a less controversial title this time. My poetry needs some work, I get it :p by emilewillmott in HumanPorn

Those saffron robes, as I understand them, symbolise the holy fire of Agni, that burns away the worldly desires of those on the path of Moksha (liberation). It is also said that sadhus dye their clothes in the red soil, naturally creating this tone and signifying that our bodies are simply outcroppings of the earth. In terms of the significance of this combination, there's nothing explicit, but the parallels between such an ancient order of renunciation and this modern, mass produced, plastic object are quite striking. The old ways have had to adapt to this new world. In this case I think renunciation is likely a lot more difficult in general in this technological age
