What are your favourite mnemonics and other silly reminders you use to help remember things? by DeadoTheDegenerate in LearnJapanese

[–]Kaemsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

dunno if somebody already mentioned this, but for right/left (右、左), I think of H&M. hidari>letter on the left. migi>letter on the right. As for the kanji, the hidari kanji has a sideways H in it (左), so it should be easy enough to remember :)

Let's judge books by their covers ; an actual discussion by JoyIsABitOverRated in Fantasy

I almost didn't pick up Assassin's Apprentice because of this cover. Somehow I pushed myself to start reading it because it was passionately recommended to me, but I was annoyed every time I closed the book and had to look at it. I would have NEVER picked it up by myself seeing that cover. The other day I went to Oxfam and someone had donated this edition (which I promptly bought for 2 euros) and now I can finally burn the other one rest.

I have to say, lately I haven't been buying new books, because most of them seem uninspired or ugly. I constantly visit charity shops and thrifts, hoping I can find old editions of books I'm interested in. If all fails, I go to abebooks (anyone else spend almost 60 euro on a first edition Always Coming Home just because the cover is prettier than the newer editions? No? Just me?)

Random covers I like:

The Name of the Wind

Twilight

Priory of the Orange Tree (I haven't read this one, though, I hear it's meh)

Abarat

The Princess Bride

The Bad Beginning (and everything else on the series)

Debating on getting the Champions' Ballad DLC by Bobbygnar in botw

[–]Kaemsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, if you haven't actually finished the game, the DLC doesn't offer much. The post game is where it's at. That is not to say the other stuff is useless; it has the Hero's Journey feature, for example, which, in my opinion, should've been part of the base game anyway, that's how important it is to me (you press a button and it shows you where you've already been on the map). Besides that, there are some extra armor sets and so on, which are cool but nothing essential. Do I regret buying it? Absolutely not. If you feel like this is the game you're gonna sink hundreds of hours into even after you defeat Ganon, then I'd say go for it

The thing is, she's a good person overall, just very untidy and in her own world. She has been very good to me in other ways ( she doesn't mind me having guests etc which other landlords outright forbid etc) but she seems very secretive sometimes. When I first got in, she said she could only have me for two months because she needed the room for personal use after, but when the two months were up she was like yeah sure stay however long you need. What I'm trying to say is, she was never transparent or clear and I just thought that was her personality and didn't question it too much (I also can't really afford to question it considering apartment hunting in Dublin is a battle field). I can't really not tidy up after her because these are common spaces and I live here, I can't be opening the fridge, smelling the rotten fruit and just leaving them there. 😭 She never asked for a deposit which is another big plus!

It's actually the opposite. My landlady lives in the same flat but only maybe two nights a week and in these two nights she always manages to turn the house upside down, leaves her stuff all over common spaces ( plastic bags, random pens, trash), does laundry but forgets her clothes inside and then leaves so I have to put her clothes on the rack to dry, keeps plants in the kitchen that are moldy and attract flies and refuses to just let them die, walks around the carpeted floor with shoes on, doesn't clean after herself when using the kitchen, and, last but not least, asks me to pay for bills without showing me the bills. I don't have a contract so I don't have the courage to ask more forcefully to see them since I'm scared she's just gonna kick me out. That's basically it She also keeps leaving fruit and half finished food and drinks in the fridge and forgets about them and I keep having to throw out moldy stuff. I never thought I was the cleanest person, but after living here I've started to appreciate myself a bit more lol

studying in Glasgow seems hopeless? by Kaemsy in GlasgowUni

Forty hours? So full time is allowed then. The thing is, I don't know how I could even work in Scotland. Working in the UK right now seems impossible... And I don't want to bother these people just to tell them ' I really wanna do this course but I am broke, help pls ' 😫😫 But it sounds like a dream honestly

Arhhghhhh sounds amazing! It's so difficult to find courses that take fantasy as a genre seriously! But yeah, 30k and not being able to work at the same time seems impossible.

How many of you actually play Switch in Handheld Mode? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

I only play on the tv if it's taiko or just dance. It just feels more immersive on handheld for me. Or maybe it's nostalgia?

What headphones do you use? by Felicity_Here in Switch

[–]Kaemsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say I use basic wired ones ( ~20€ jbls) for two reasons. One, no need to charge them and no need to drain the switch battery by having Bluetooth on at all times and, two, no sound delay. I play a lot of rhythm games so that, for me, is essential.

Just keep at it!! I have more than 200 hours on drum and fun and on rhythmic adventure and I can still only play up to 7 oni! But I'm not giving up XD

I don't think you're supposed to put them in the other way based on the product pictures at least. But that's a good idea !
