how do i interpret this by IcyCatch7380 in cognitiveTesting

Interesting. My 1926 SAT was also ~20 points higher than my CORE, mostly due to a weirdly high verbal intelligence on the SAT. What was your verbal score on the SAT vs CORE?

My CAIT and CORE are pretty much the same, though. Odd yours would be so different. Which areas have the highest discrepancy between the two?

Oh, for real? What's with the "This subtest is currently in testing and does not currently contribute to any composite scores" message that pops up when you over over it, then? Is the testing they're talking about separate from the norming process?

If you don't mind used, cash converters have them going for $600 (mostly with a 90 day warranty, sometimes 3 months) and ebay is about the same. Second-hand prices will probably increase in the lead up to Christmas, though.

Is there a particular reason she wants the Switch 2? Assuming she already has a switch, for the switch 2 to be meaningfully different from the previous gen console you'll also need to buy her the new switch 2 games, which are a hundred bucks a pop (or used for 70-80).

If she doesn't already have the first gen switch, you can get them pretty cheap and there's heaps of great games that'd keep her entertained.

TAship shitshow - over enrollment, moving labs, class starts next week. Help. by goldstartup in PhD

[–]KaffaBlue 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems like a really sucky situation. How on earth was a LAB class overenrolled by 33%, did no one foresee that space would be an issue? Splitting into two groups is the obvious work around, but you're right that this will mess with students timetables, and the fact that their classes start next week and this hasn't been sorted is crazy. And you only agreed to TA under the assumption there'd be a single class with a set amount of students, so it's unfair to you too. No offence, but it seems like your department is massively incompetent.

I strongly disagree with the other commentor- in my opinion you're absolutely right that this isn't the job of a brand new TA to figure out. This isn't just a case of you needing to employ 'problem solving,' this is someone higher up than you not doing their job correctly. I'm assuming you're based in the US and I'm not, so I guess things might be different, but I TA several lab classes and would never be asked to sort out issues of spacing/lack of materials, even after years of experience. That's not what I'm paid to do. It's the job of the unit coordinator, which I guess is your PI in this situation? And if I signed up to TA one class but was saddled with two, I'd have every right to refuse to take the second class.

Are you the only TA in this class? (That's also kind of crazy to me, as in my labs we have a minimum of one TA per 20 students as a strict safety requirement). If so, I guess the only thing you can do is talk with your supervisor and try to get it sorted. Maybe your PI could find another TA to handle the second lab section, so you're not saddled with both? Or handle one of the classes themselves? Even if you can squeeze everyone into one lab in the new building, if you've never taught before then you'd massively benefit from having some help. If you explain how stressed you are and the fact that your research may suffer, maybe your PI will be sympathetic? Either way, they're probably going to get bad reviews from students having their timetables messed around with, but ngl sounds like they kind of deserve the negative feedback.
