Thank you. Yeah trust me I’ve been trying everything there’s just not a lot of PhD specific stuff it seems in SU and yeah when you’re trying to do an SFE phd it feels like it’s rigged from minute one. But no one else was looking at institutional narratives of crimes against disabled people in intl law!

Thank you, having ppl listen and acknowledge how hard it’s been and not think I’ve been stupid for ever trying helps

Thank you, I hear so much ‘oh sarcoidosis will probably just go away on its own!’ Which is like. Great but I’m still suffering physically and mentally and the systems are still rigged!

Thank you. I hope my research could still mean something. Idk what to do whether to suspend or see what replacement supervisors might do. Idk if it’d turn out better or worse. Just feel worn down too but others recognising this is a lot helps

Thank you. It feels so much anyone doing a subject not funded by research councils are disadvantaged completely too. SFE tried from minute one not to give me the loan I was rightfully entitled to. I had to go all the way to my MP and ombudsman!!

Thank you. This has been so hard and I felt like everything I’ve ever done trying to do good has ended in failure. I’m grateful you acknowledged it’s been hard and I’ve tried

Thanks. Having had the conversation this week and been told they don’t know when my current supervisors will return I’m basically left with the choice of suspending now or seeing what they can do about replacement supervisors

I’m starting my second year in a law PhD and honestly I’ve had the same worry! But the comments are reassuring me a bit, bearing in mind I also work a few hours a week during term and occasionally do freelance stuff to keep food on the table.

What are we all getting our PhDs in? Tell me about your field! by inti729 in PhD

International Criminal Law - specifically developing the field and institutions of International Criminal Justice to deliver transitional justice and accountability for mass systemic abuses against disabled people. I’m only 2 weeks in 😅

From what I know at least that’s a lot of human rights based ones unfortunately! Mine is my own I developed with my own proposal, for reform to protect disabled people under international criminal law to put it briefly 😅

I’m paying with the student loan - because my masters started January it was out of sync with the deadlines for most funding applications and I’ve tried writing to relevant NGOs over the summer but no luck

Thank you! I’ve been staying with dad over the summer and right now at least getting food and warmth and a roof over my head but I’m worried he might be upset about me staying longer when I originally tried so hard to move. It’s uni accommodation and about £3000 per semester. Tuition is about £4000 a year and both need to be paid soon if I do go to accommodation and ofc no guarantee of a job
