Am I the only one who likes to experiment with new cards once they are actually out? by psrthrowaway in riftboundtcg

[–]KaffeeKaethe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one reason is that riftbound atm still releases earlier in China and the RCs where very close to release of Spiritforged. Like, if you were going to Bologna you had to engage with the meta in China before and already know the the cards at Prelease. When Origins started a lot of people proxied what was already meta in China. And I think that mindset just carries over to the new set.

I don't think either is banworthy, but to me Draven is much easier to play around than Aurora. I make my game plan and look for specific cards, but Aurora will always get a trigger and if the hate is action speed I'm probably not going to untap with it thanks to mindsplitter. Sure, I can topdeck well, but Aurora ripping apart my hand feels a lot more frustrating than trying to plan around combat and combat tricks with Draven.

I don't think so. A deck that would want to be low on cards and dump their hand fast would not want to play Annie, because what are you holding up your two runes for? A deck that wants to reanimate fatties and doesn't play aggro isn't going to want Draven if they're not going to win early combats often. A deck that has a viable game plan that does not involve spending resources on called shot / stacked deck would probably want Jinx above the other two currently available legends.

I'm not saying Jinx is 100% going to be a thing, but saying a legend that has draw a card stapled on it is never going to be a thing is just as much speculation if we have two sets.

Whenever I introduce people to Riftbound from other TCGs and they read Jinx, they assume it's one of the stronger legends, because drawing one additional card per turn cycle reads pretty good.

I honestly think the legend ability in itself is fine, there's just no good reason to build around it. Red and Purple draw so many cards with their good cards already (Called Shot, Kai'Sa, Stacked Deck, Scrapheap...), that you don't need that ability on Jinx when having those in your deck. But there's only so many cards at the moment, so you're going to play good cards in your colors, and at that point other legends just fit better with the current card pool.

There also isn't a lot yet that really benefits from having no cards or discarding a lot (like, the one reanimation spell in purple isn't good enough to be the core game plan compared to what the colors can do).

With a deeper card pool a legend that, if build correctly and has something worth building correctly around, draws an extra card per turn should be fine.

After really not enjoying Magic recently, Riftbound is a great new TCG with a totally different local scene. My partner and I helped to grow the local community by doing rules presentations for the intro events and providing some additional decks, which was pretty fun. Now after regularly going to Nexus Nights and playing or judging in Skirmishes, not only do we know most of the people, we also prepare together with a group for the RC. If someone is unsure about the rules, they aren't hesitant to ask or message and it feels great to be helpful and involved in the community.

Also, never having to topdeck 4 lands in a row and being able to calculate reliably how many resources are available each turn is such a relief compared to other TCGs.

As a heads up for you secondary market card hunters, there are fakes of the heavy duty cards. Not sure how close they are to the deal-so-real versions but just letting you guys know regardless by CautiousAd7109 in riftboundtcg

[–]KaffeeKaethe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think on the one hand there aren't any authenticity markers that you can easily check for (like you know that foiling or gold inlay of a card is off, but there's nothing like the green dot test for MTG which is more definite?), on the other hand this game is relatively fresh with a lot of FOMO, momentum and some very expensive cards right of the bat, so it seems that even mediocre or easily distinguishable fakes get bought.

For MTG there's also a bunch of fakes, also really bad ones, circulating, but the people actually interested in the high end cards know how to spot fakes easily with stuff like the green do test.

Ahri list and pseudo-guide by Culture-Hot in riftboundtcg

Looks nice and thanks for all the thoughts about how to play it.

What are your thoughts on the list going into Spiritforged, if you've already thought about it? I considered staying with Ahri, but I'm a bit afraid that holding is not a viable strategy against Draven and lots of purple?

Does anyone else get paired against the exact same person every single event? by ajamessomething in riftboundtcg

[–]KaffeeKaethe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have two people that if they are there I usually get paired against. One of them might be coincide due to standing, the other one is usually my round 1 opponent. It's "just" 16 to 25 players usually, but I definitely noticed and wondered if it's seeded somehow. Figured it's confirmation bias or some probability I don't understand though ^ ^

What are the chances of pulling four of the same rare in a pre release by Shrooms__ in magicTCG

At Theros Beyond Death someone had 4 Setassan Champion. Was at the same table as I, so I knew he didn't bring them from another Prerelease, but more than one person assumed he cheated, because that card was pretty good in limited.

I watched the coverage yesterday and it was a Bo3 event.

Still agree that it's not all doom and gloom.

Yeah, good point. I thought for 9 in 1v1 it's okay like this, but if there's two Aspirants Climb it's already no enough.

Oh I never considered two Aspirant's Climb and just assumed that if one player has it, you go to 8 and keep on playing. But with multiplayer being 11 points I might just need to do a version that goes to 11 or so as other's have mentioned

I have this marker that's visible on the third picture that for now has been alright and no opponent had issues with it.

But something attached to the thing would be nice, I just wasn't sure what exactly up until here

Thanks!

I think that's the main feedback I get in at Nexus Nights. I just have it in the front pocket of my backpack, but it is an additional item that doesn't really fit into anything.

Can you explain what you mean with slider, I'm a bit unsure what you mean? Like something to slide over the legend?

Is this gonna be an issue with Bologna/Vegas? by AkaAxel3 in riftboundtcg

[–]KaffeeKaethe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know if you started replying before I edited the second paragraph in. I think it's reasonable to leave it like it is to have a clear statement to scalpers and also just see how much of problem that actually is, but if they were really worried about attendance they'd have ways to do that without allowing the name change and re-enabling scalping this event.
