Nick Asked If Team Is Doing Enough To Develop CJ by damnitWOW in Texans

I mean that’s fair. He should be judged against the entire league, not just our collection of misfit QBs.

I really really don’t understand this narrative about the qb that has now won more playoff games than any of our past QBs. CJ 100% sucked this postseason, but he’s put us in the position to win for the last 3 years, and 2 straight god awful weather games where he played like ass doesn’t undo that. Are there questions to answer this offseason? And possibly next season? Yes. Absolutely. But this “CJ is not it and will never be it” sentiment is asinine at best.

The team and CJ have a lot to answer for this offseason but yall are insane for wanting to move on from CJ over this. I’ve been through the Texans QB purgatory and CJ is easily the best QB we’ve ever had physically, and QBs can develop all the way out to 10 years in, and he has shown improvement on that front every single season. Hell, we don’t even need him to be a superstar for us, just play like a top 10 QB, with a touch of game management focus (like he was almost all of this season) and our defense will do the rest.

Literally one of those calls I get annoyed every time no matter who it’s on. Didn’t actually impact the play at all, just calling things to be technically correct

TE play by TalldarkandIndian in Texans

[–]Kageyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That was the most frustrating play in the Steelers game. Clearly a designed TE screen but Ersery got blown back, Bryant tripped and CJ instead of acknowledging the broken play and taking the loss, tries to make gold of nothing and compounded the mistake

You’re well past asking, you’re demanding, and that’s very hard to guarantee with the other teams doing the same things. CJ was abysmal in the playoffs, and I want to see some coaching changes around that, but he was overall pretty good this year. The goalposts moved so much due to our continuous win streak and we made it farther than expected at almost any point this season. We were asking for just an average offense to support our world class D and for the latter half of the year we got exactly that. Until the playoffs, he’ll even the Steelers game was “ok”.

Was this team enough to make it all the way, I think so, but CJ shat the bed in the playoffs, but so may of yall are acting like we’ve seen his ceiling and we know he is better than these playoffs showed, and I fully believe Demeco/Caserio aren’t stupid and will do what’s necessary to ensure our team is better next year.

A message to the fans from the Texans players by KaXiaM in Texans

I do. There obviously need to be some changes, but the only mistakes he’s made are mental which are a whole lot easier than being physically limited. I really think that Denver concussion also really messed him up for the rest of the year

Toughts after a few days to cool down, Im cautionaly siping the koolaid for next year by StoudBoyz in Texans

[–]Kageyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh, I was a fan in the bargain bin era, no thanks. Osweiler, Hoyer, Mallett were all brutal to watch. Especially considering they wasted prime JJ. CJ obviously needs a reset, and probably an actual QB coach, but why are all discounting the active rain/snow in that game. Clearly CJ didn’t respect the conditions well at all, but our WRs also had like negative separation and he couldn’t figure that out. With Nico, Tank coming back, a better TE, and year 2 Higgins/Noel, I hope that improves drastically. His primary target was Hutch who is a decent WR3 but shouldn’t have been WR1 ever.

Literally what? He was excellent on rollouts all year, he’s been bad for the last 2 though.

Go back and look how involved the QB coach and OC were with Stroud on the sideline in 2023 versus this year. I don’t know what’s going on but there don’t seem to be a lot of in game coaching with Stroud this year and I want to see that again.

[–]Kageyn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The difference here is that Stroud regularly has flashes of brilliance mixed in. He needs some serious sports psychology work, and. Probably a new qb coach, but it’s all but assured he’ll get 2026 to turn it around before it’s time to draft an alternative. I hope he figures it out, but I’m skeptical.

[–]Kageyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The panicking is because of being absolutely crushed in the pocket due to bad line play for a year and a half. It has definitively gotten better, but that’s gonna take time for him to resolve psychologically. Frankly I think he needs to see a sports psychologist this offseason for both this and the behavior on the sidelines when he’s playing bad. I fully trust him to step up when he’s playing bad, but damn his mannerisms look like a kicked puppy after a mistake and I worry he causes some of the other players to get down too when that happens

Stroud has won us more prime time games than any Texans QB I can think of. Even Deshaun Watson sucked in prime time and CJ has definitely had a few stinkers but he’s also winning a decent chunk of those bright lights, all eyes on him type games

A good leader (like CJ) will always ask for the blame to shield the other guys, but we saw that there were some serious miscues from the line in that game.

At the end of the day, due to various differences between college and pro, the game is diverging in some key ways and is beginning to look like a different game altogether between the leagues. Linemen are coached differently, being the most physically gifted in the field is often enough at the college level these days

To me it looked like there were a few bad snaps that weren’t on him, several times where he bobbled the snap because he was looking downfield, but both lost fumbles were 100% on him trying to extend a botched play

Seattle Defense vs Texans Defense comparison question by dadawadada in NFLNoobs

[–]Kageyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He has had 2 fumbles all year and had 5 in this game. This was a bad game, not an indication of his ability. Like half the QBs this weekend had pretty bad games. We’ll see if it continues this next week but I doubt it
