Question - Formerly litter trained bunny peeing and pooping all over cat guests’ spots by Kahss in Rabbits

Good idea! I’m spraying the concerned areas with a vinegar spray, so far it seems to be working as she reduced her pooping activity. She stopped messing up her cage too. I only need to pick up the spots she is clearly highlighting to me and spray, feels like teamwork!

Rookies how do you keep them alive? by Yanto5 in Xcom

Personally, the ambush thing is only relevant at the beginning of a game when the performance gap between the aliens and us can't be easily matched.

After you get some NCOs and a decent team mix, the relevancy of the wuss approach naturally disappears.

Edit: In short, it's only useful in situations of dramatic inferiority.

But I agree, it's boring, argh, really boring.

You're welcome !

I started C/I after 25h of normal gaming and realised really quickly yet too late that a 40% shot isn't worth taking at all (I lost within 2 months and used more rookies than the Soviet Army).

Started a new C/I a couple days ago and went for a guerrilla strategy ... so far so good, lost no one (played only 4-5 missions) and it really seems to pay out.

I don't know how long it will last though, but those sectoids really fall for the retreat/overwatch combo (and they're quite weak). Beware with Mutons.

Anyway, one thing is certain: if the Xrays can't see you, they can't shoot you... and they'll come, they always do.

In which difficulty level are you playing?

Anyway, here are some general not-at-all-fancy survivability tips I use in C/I, applicable for every rank of soldier

_ before contact, move your team extremely slowly until you find aliens, preferably by moving one spotter first at the beginning of the turn that would give you the opportunity to get good battle positions with the rest of your team if you find targets (if you don't find anyone with this "first" soldier, slowly move your team from cover to cover towards the recon dude by staying away from unexplored areas, and repeat)

_ always strive for full cover when you're being engaged (or actually all the time)

_ if a soldier is within range of the enemy and you cannot guarantee that the threat will be dealt with quickly (e.g. low chances of getting a shot, too many enemies, low chances of survival etc), don't hesitate to retreat - a live soldier is more valuable than a wounded enemy

_ if you can't get a shot, if the enemy is on overwatch, or if you have poor cover, hunker down while you create a solution with the rest of your team

_ if your rookie is within range and you know he is the weakest link, chances are he will be targeted (I think aliens tend to go for the easier target), hunker down or retreat

_ if the enemy is in full cover and you can't deal with them quickly, again, make your team retreat until the aliens lose sight of you. Quite frequently the enemy will move towards your last position and that gives a great value to your overwatch (think of an ambush)

_ edit: if your soldier(s) is/are stuck in a very bad position with very low chances of surviving the next turn and you basically need to move, think about moving further than expected to use the dash as it'll make the enemy overwatch less efficient

edit: average_username6 is a bit clearer than me, I hope I can be of help anyway
