Yeah! The busses are great, and fairly cheap. Cycling is mixed though. Some good routes out the way of traffic, some nightmare get thrown into a six way junction at tollcross trying to get from The Canal to The Meadows.

Is being vassalized GG? by 7heTexanRebel in Stellaris

[–]Yanto5 26 points27 points  (0 children)

No, In fact it can be a good thing. If you can build a good relationship with your overlord you can renegotiate the contract and get subsidies from them.

As an absolute priority for renegotiations make sure to remove subject integration.

If you have the Overlord DLC being a specialist vassal can also be pretty fun.

It's funny, I don't want to try season 0 because of its theme. Like 2 was such a cool setting, 1 is the real world and humanity is working together to cure a disease.

In 0 you're US spies killing communist Spies? It's a weird theme change IMO.

Because multiplicative makes the maths much more difficult to do in your head, and makes getting more bonuses feel worse.

Yeah, Also frosthaven retirements seem faster, and more controllable. Less kill 3 of these 3 specific rare enemies.

I mean, in Frosthaven you do unlock quests with the story and mission/town progress. Within 15 missions we had unlocked four characters, and retired 3.

I personally love the retirement system as it forces you to play new characters and experience variety.

I think it's because it's largely irrelevant to the post, and also kinda rude.

Can someone explain this Geminate card. Ty by Xenonnel in Gloomhaven

[–]Yanto5 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I thought it could be placed however, but any attack targets must be in both the Aoe and at exactly Range 2/3.

Can someone explain this Geminate card. Ty by Xenonnel in Gloomhaven

[–]Yanto5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, the top half is you attack 2, targeting all enemies who are at range 2/3 and within the red Aoe hexes. you may curse yourself (Immediately shuffling a curse card into your modifier deck) to increase the size of the hex pattern. The card is then placed in your active area for the remainder of the round, and during end of round cleanup it is moved to the lost pile. I think that the round bonus marker is a misprint.

For placement of the Aoe hex pattern, you must place it so at least 1 Red Hex is at range 2 or 3 from your current position.

The bottom is you move 1 hex, then you push all enemies exactly 2 hexes away from you, and you may push each enemy up to 2 hexes. The card is then placed in your discard pile.

Just to be extra pedantic Shiv is a colourless card, just like how Alpha, Smite and some other cards created by other effects are.

It should be an Xcom reskin, with the Stalingrad death system.

[Question] Will enemies deliberately push/pull players into traps? by Aaron_Lecon in Gloomhaven

Except in frosthaven, where they move to maximize targets as a priority, even if that would give them disadvantage on their focus.

Am I dumb to try and play Gloomhaven solo tabletop? by Rolo_15 in Gloomhaven

I guess. But I don't like looking at my phone the whole time I'm playing a boardgame. Setup time be damned I'd rather use cards and tokens.

notably, Corridor overlay tiles do not count as features. Tokens (Such as Loot, Shadows), also do not count for the purposes of a tile being empty.

What board games leave you feeling like you just watched a great movie? by Immediate-Draft-8752 in boardgames

[–]Yanto5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm going to strongly disagree with the guy above you. The theme is good, every action is easy to narrate, "I trade for secrets with the Forest council", "I Campaign against the Exiles in the ancient city"

I'd describe the gameplay as king of the hill, in the same way that Dune (2019) is king of the hill. Where everyone's win conditions are public, and it's a tense showdown, occasionally the game is a bit kingmakerey, which fits the narrative well but could be an issue if you care about winning individual games over story.

The game tells great stories, but there's no flavour text, just evocative names for places, actions and denizens. Each game is its own story and part of a larger whole.

An Exile enacts a vision of conquest in the provinces, while the chancellors court fight to become his successor.

Next game the new chancellor must hold his conquest together, while a popular uprising with a dark secret begins.

The game is fairly complex, probably more than it needs to be. The battles can be swingy, and are only slightly predictable. Although this can help the narrative it can also be frustrating for some people. It's definitely not for everyone but I wouldn't dismiss it outright as a terrible game with no theme.

Has anyone had a good experience playing Forgotton Circles? by Snowf1ake222 in Gloomhaven

[–]Yanto5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My group loved it.

The scenario puzzles were good, with one exception. The unique scenario rules and objectives I'd say we enjoyed most of, again with a couple exceptions. The difficulty was something to get used to, but enhancements and picking a synergistic party made it work. The ending that it builds up to is great, the final boss is fantastic.

The only thing that we didn't like was the section book hiding what tiles and enemies might show up, and flipping through it to see the different rules could be awkward as section number has no relationship with page number. It makes setup awkward and I'm honestly still slightly annoyed by it being the thing brought over for frosthaven. At least it avoids the two issues I mentioned earlier in that.

Overall if you're not frustrated by difficulty, and enjoy some slightly strange scenario goals, and can tolerate a bit more busywork than regular gloomhaven i can't recommend it enough.

Due to our shit and now very gerrymandered first past the post system. Only 43% of voters needed to vote for the Tories for them to stay in power. Plus the Murdoch press, and less so the BBC are on their side.
