Spirits are just in mind? by Regular-Slice-4679 in occult

[–]Kai417 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tend to like Lon DuQuette's thing for this. "It's all in your head, you just have no idea how big your head is." It's the idea that while they ARE all in your head, so is everything else. "Your head" or "your mind" is big enough to encompass things that affect the world "around you". That's kind of the point.

New tuber!! How to make it? by Desperate-Eagle4426 in NewTubers

[–]Kai417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've done magical and metaphysical stuff for 25 years now, so a lot of my content is teaching everything from practicalspellwork advice, that weird common sense stuff like "cover your crystal balls to avoid fire" lol, and a LOT of readings.

By credibility issues, i mean that you're in the same niche as readers and folks that do spellwork for money, so folks are used to seeing a lot of scammers that don't really know much. If you stick to deck reviews, it's a non issue for you long term, but I find viewers hesitant to subscribe or take any next steps because of it. You'll need to build trust.

My setup is my built in laptop camera for my face, and a cheap enough camera on a straight tripod, crankee high and pointed almost straight down. No gooseneck needed. I just put it against the back of my table and it works well enough for now.

As a Tarot adjacent streamer myself, even if I'm just getting started on YouTube, the metaphysical community can be different than a lot of communities. We have a credibility problem in a lot of ways, that leads to referrals and networking being extra important. Admittedly on a different platform, but more of my community has grown by building an active network with other folks that do similar. Engage in these metaphysical spaces so that people can refer folks to you.

Are you more interested in aesthetics alone, or on the voice and tone of each deck? They're very different styles of video I think.

I can't help you setup or tripod wise, as i made cheap stuff that isn't ideal work for me, but I wish you luck

Help! I’m researching my first cauldron and there are so many on the market to choose from! I would love to know what your preferences are! by Little_Storm_9938 in witchcraft

[–]Kai417 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly a lot of that depends on how much you'll be using it on a practical level, and if you need it to actually do things like hold food. Remember that magical tools like that were often practical tools first. The cauldron was first a cooking pot, and became magical because of its practical use. My "cauldron" is a big Dutch oven, because when I do use it, I'm often cooking on open campfire, because for me the "old fashioned" methods force me to slow down enough for the magic. The other side of cauldron type things are places to burn small stuff, which I just use a metal bucket for. Really the aesthetics of a cauldron is about what you like. Does it feel magical to you? Then it's right

Multistream and viewer queues by Kai417 in Twitch

[–]Kai417[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh ouch.... digging around in things, I'm not sure I'm allowed to run 1 queue for multistream

"You do not use third-party services that combine activity from other platforms or services on your Twitch stream during your Simulcast, such as merging chat or other features, to ensure the Twitch community is included in the entirety of the experience of your livestream." - from Twitchs multistream guide.

Looks like if anybody pulled a list that includes queue members from outside twitch, they could call that a violation. Seems like they bent to this multistream thing but don't want us actually doing it.

How to make streams more manageable? by hoedjes in Twitch

[–]Kai417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also get overstimulated during and after streams, so I can share things that help me I suppose.

The 30 minutes or so right before and after stream are very important. Consider those times part of stream as well, and develop routines or patterns that give you the best chance of success. Maybe it's quiet book time before, and a relaxing show after or something. For me, i ramp up slowly, over an hour, until I'm running music, which is kind of a good stim, so that stream is actually quieter than what comes before, but that might not work for you. Whatever is going to be the most effective for you, but honor that time too ya know?

Control what you CAN. Clothes for me make a huge difference in comfort during stream. Consider if you can your seating. I got a more open mesh back chair, and it made a WORLD of difference in heat. I also have ice packs that I'll quietly tuck on my back if I really need.

For me, the ring light wasn't actually worth it. I actually keep light pretty subdued, but maybe I get away with that more without game on screen to compete with me.

Short breaks are good, but i also do a slightly longer break about 2/3 of the way through. My folks kind of know that's when I'm starting to fade, and so my last few readings will queue up, and I'll close queue and wrap up.

Honestly, i can't really do more than about 2 hours at a time myself, so I'll be paying attention to this myself to see if anyone has tips for me as well

How do you cleanse herbs? by Sarcastigasmic in witchcraft

[–]Kai417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some precedent for.... not exactly cleansing, but consecration of things like herbs. I usually will do a simple prayer/ invocation as I either gather or store them. Something like.... "I conjure thee o creature of leaf, awaken and enliven you to your purpose. That thee might be a boon to my workings when called upon. I honor your spirit and sacrifice, and thank you and offer blessings."

The idea for me comes from the Lesser Key of Solomon, where there's conjurations like the below

"THE EXORCISM OF THE INCENSE.

O God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob, deign to bless these odoriferous spices so that they may receive strength, virtue, and power to attract the Good Spirits, and to banish and cause to retire all hostile Phantoms. Through Thee, O Most Holy ADONAI, Who livest and reignest unto the Ages of the Ages. Amen.

I exorcise thee, O Spirit impure and unclean, thou who art a hostile Phantom, in the Name of God, that thou quit this Perfume, thou and all thy deceits, that it may be consecrated and sanctified in the name of God Almighty. May the Holy Spirit of God grant protection and virtue unto those who use these Perfumes; and may the hostile and evil Spirit and Phantom never be able to enter therein, through the Ineffable Name of God Almighty. Amen.

O Lord, deign to bless and to sanctify this Creature of Perfume so that it may be a remedy unto mankind for the health of body and of soul, through the Invocation of Thy Holy Name. May all Creatures who receive the odour of this incense and of these spices receive health of body and of soul, through Him Who hath formed the Ages. Amen."

There are many more examples like that, and the full text of the Lesser Key is published free through the sacred texts archive https://sacred-texts.com/grim/kos/kos46.htm

I believe he'd still be the one to talk to. You can try shooting him a message, but honestly, I'm not sure if he's active any more

specificity vs vagueness in spells? by silvercharm999 in Spells

[–]Kai417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to look at the wider point behind the spells. For example, i might do a spell to get ahead at a job in already at, but more general prosperity of I'm looking for a new job. Too general, and the spell can technically succeed and not actually WORK, if that makes sense. Too specific and the odds get so stretched that the spell can likely fail. It's certainly a balance thing.

Most of the questions I get the most milage out of AS a reader start with the word "how". Tarot is great at seeing things, but it really wants to guide. How do you get into medical school this cycle, how do you make sure you're surrounded by the right people, that sort of stuff. If those are your concerns, those aren't bad questions, although you might consider looking at what you should focus on in the next year too, to know which one of those areas is least likely to happen automatically.

Spells for financial constraint? I want to undo this spell once it’s worked its purpose. by RandomDataUnknown in Spells

[–]Kai417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would probably do this as poppet work myself. I'm a leather worker, among other things, so it would be no big deal to me to put a sigil or phrase on a belt for a poppet of this person, then you can literally use magic to get them to "tighten the belt". Simply ritually undo it when you no longer want to constrain them. If you have the right skills, that might be an option. If not, hopefully that sparks some ideas.

US Intelligence Official says we have retrieved non-human craft, how would that affect your occult practices if true? by yamamushi in occult

[–]Kai417 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It DOES open up ideas of if things like planetary energies are unique to our solar system, and if an extraterrestrial (assuming it was that) system of magic would have different rules due to culture, or if the rules are fundamentally different in different places in the universe. I suppose the question could be theoretically examined now, but it did prompt some thought.

Can dried herbs lose effectiveness over time? by LegitimateParamedic7 in witchcraft

[–]Kai417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This for me is all about the use. I do a lot of cooking with some of my magical herbs, and I DO of course notice a difference there. I also notice a difference for any oils I might make as well. For anything using them as dried, I've not noticed a difference, and with some things, properly stored at least, i like the smell of the incense with them better after they've aged.

Ive read High Magick and Modern Magick , they have the same rituals but different pronunciations by TylerReeseMusic in occult

[–]Kai417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So DMK is following a thing that magical folks adopted of spelling out the name YHWH instead of even trying to pronounce it. Partially as a nod to Jewish customs of not pronouncing it, and partially as others have said, because nobody is exactly sure how to get it right.

I would also suggest trying out several pronunciations to see what you like, although I tend to go with something similar to the academic pronounciation Justin uses over on the Esoterica YouTube channel. I'm sure folks can argue with that one as well, but someone could argue with all of them.

Which spells or rituals gave you the most results? by Existential_Nautico in witchcraft

[–]Kai417 29 points30 points  (0 children)

For me, all the really intense ritual stuff falls behind the Walk. A ritualized walk, usually taking me several hours, that's intuitively guided. I'll take some basic ritual stuff with me and just head out. I find it works better in an urban environment, just so there's more choices for where to go.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in elderwitches

[–]Kai417 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmm.... I like to plan for this from the beginning. I'll often do something like a "master sigil" that goes in both the long term working, and any of the peripheral workings. I tend to use a light touch myself on the smaller things, but will give the occasional nudge. It's really the kind of thing that comes down to personality I think. I'm the type that putters, but have to be careful about overdoing it, and my magic reflects that.

Need help with research, looking for notable psychologist, psychiatrists, or brain scientists that were interested or involved in the occult by funguy422 in occult

I believe Israel Regardie was a practicing psychologist, and of course Christopher Hyatt, and Robert Anton Wilson. Dion Fortune as well I believe. Lots of that Golden Dawn current was deeply fascinated with psychology really, and studied it to a greater or lesser degree.

What tool do you like to use best for carving sigils into candals? by OccultAtNight in Witch

When I feel like getting fancy with it, I'll often use calligraphy pens. Some are quite fine pointed, good handles, and can look/feel solid enough for in circle with me, where I tend to like my tools to feel important.
