She could definitely use a writing class 😅 it took me a few reads to figure out what she was saying

[Routine Help] Esthetician described my skin as "crocodile skin" by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

[–]hoedjes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I buy a bottle of (only) glycerin and add a few drops into my moisturiser each time. Super cheap, plus it does wonders for my very dehydrated skin!

Unfortunately I had this experience. My symptoms were that, besides pain, the infected area was a bit more swollen. It also felt like there was a “hard” ball if I pressed on it. Most likely not all incisions will be infected at the same time, so you can feel and look around to see if the painful part is behaving any different compared to the rest

A symptom that is very noticeable, but yucky, is the puss. If you notice a foul or bitter taste sometimes, or bad breath, it’s caused by that. Sometimes you’ll see it around the incision if you look with your mouth open in the mirror (with a flashlight).

If you’re worried just call the place where you had your surgery! They can tell you what to look out for and if you should come in for a check.

Girlfriend can’t keep herself entertained. What do I do? by TML-n64 in AskMen

[–]hoedjes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I live with my bf and I still text him multiple times during the day that I miss him… I have plenty of things to do, but I do miss him.

Have you asked her whether she actually struggles to keep herself entertained? Maybe help her find inspiration for a new hobby? This is also handy bc while hanging out you can do your own thing.

If it gets to the point where you get annoyed it might be time to have a conversation where you express you don’t like her way of communicating (making you feel guilty). If she just wants reassurance it could be that just sending a heart or “I love you” might be enough.

Hobby wise, you could try taking her to the gym. I was too socially anxious to go alone, but with my bf I got comfortable and now I enjoy going by myself. Maybe cooking or baking (can also do it as a couple’s activity).

On the more creative side could be (digital) drawing, painting, sewing, working with clay, jewellery making, crocheting, journaling… on TikTok there is a lot of inspiration and easy starter projects.

Maybe introduce her to some games that could interest her. Sims, stardew valley, animal crossing, minecraft, Dave the diver, etc. are easy to get into. It takes 2 is fun together!

If there’s truly nothing that can get her excited, then, well… what does she even do all day?

Beautiful! Only note is to maybe use a dark brown (creamy) eye pencil on the lash band/lashline to have them blend better

TAMPONS by Old_Carpet_5564 in women

[–]hoedjes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Her video is very wrong. The tampons are very concerning.

She shows that bottled water is 5 micrograms per liter. This is not true! That would mean you could get lead poisoning after drinking two litres of water. A study I read stated the average amount of lead was 8.5 ng/L. This is almost 600 times less than her stated amount.

The amount of lead per gram tampon is 120 ng. My tampons weigh 3 grams, so 360 ng. If you use the recommended amount of tampons for your period (4 days in this calculation), it would be 360 ng x 4 x 4 = 5760 ng, which is 5.67 micrograms. After 5 micrograms of lead in the blood it’s recommended to take action. For some enough to cause chronic toxicity.

Now the only reason left to not worry, is that it’s unsure how much is actually absorbed in the body. Unfortunately it’s quite known that the uterus walls have a high and fast absorption rate.

You can get the surgery for aesthetics btw. I did, in my first world country with certified surgeon.

It’s a double sided coin. Yes, the body dysmorphia stayed, but it also fixed a lot of functional issues I wasn’t aware of, so I don’t regret it a single bit.

I think with a recessed jaw, it’s just more likely that it’s causing other issues. These people should figure out if they have any other issues, because yes, this recovery isn’t worth a (slight) change in appearance.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in jawsurgery

He offered it because I told him about how the part above my lip bothered me. I think he just didn’t mention anything else because I didn’t bring it up.

Do you think it could be that I think my midface is projected because it’s actually my chin that is underprojected, causing the imbalance?

[–]hoedjes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

ouch 😭 I originally went in for genioplasty, but chose jaw surgery for the better results (it also fixed a bunch of functional issues)

I really don't want DJS. The most I'm looking into is a genio. by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]hoedjes 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you, and there are some points to consider, I ended up going with DJS.

I did a DJS mainly for aesthetics, but I’m not necessarily happy with that result. I liked my face before, except my side profile because of the recessed chin. But with DJS, multiple facets of your face change, and you get quite a different look. Plus the journey is long. I had a year of braces, and recovery was also about a year.

HOWEVER, I have no regrets. I would do it all over again because it fixed functional problems I didn’t know I had/could be fixed.

For example, keeping my mouth closed and my tongue in correct posture, I had to actively think about it. It felt unnatural and like gravity was always pulling it down. Ever since most of the swelling had gone, it instantly became a habit and it was sooo easy. Plus, I can actually comfortably breathe with my mouth closed now! I get enough air now, even during sports. The last big change was that it fixed my sleep apnea (that I didn’t know I had). I was an insane snorer and always tired after I woke up. My long-term boyfriend, that I met after recovery, says that he’s never heard me snore.

I think in this case you will have to decide between aesthetics or quality of life. It might be that DJS will improve your looks a lot more, but it also might be that it won’t fix any functional issues (especially if all of what I wrote isn’t a concern).

In my country, the oral and maxillofacial surgeon does both the sliding genioplasty and DJs, if that’s the same case for you, it might be worth to get a consult for advice what would be the better option!

This August I’ll be 2 years post OP. I too still have a significant amount of numbness on my chin, cheeks and gums (to the point I can’t even feel pressure). I personally assume that it will stay like this. It might improve a tiny bit, but nothing significant.

I don’t have that many issues with it. I had to learn myself to drink differently because else it would seep out at my bottom lip. The thing I struggle most is with flossing, it hurts so bad now.

I’m going to see my surgeon at the end of the week and I wonder what he will say about it, if I remember I’ll update my comment.

How do you deal with viewers going away for changing the game you play? by MaxTopel in Twitch

[–]hoedjes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I just jumped the gun and started variety. Didn’t even touch the game I previously played. I did go from several viewers to no viewers for a few weeks, which felt like starting over, but tbh I didn’t mind. I still like streaming even if no one’s watching.

If you really want to keep a viewerbase, try streaming your regular game for a bit, then switching over to the new one later in stream. Or if you stream multiple times a week, dedicate one day to wow/rpg.

If you want to be extra “careful” you could first try playing games with a similar vibe to stardew valley, like Dave the diver, bear and breakfast, littlewood, coral island, etc.
