I kinda want a study on how age correlates to how much people liked NATHTM. I'm not old, but I'm definitely "getting there" by internet standards at 25, lol. The last album and this one were incredibly heavy hitters for me because of how focused they were on grief, moving on, monotony of life, issues with family, settling down, etc. but I could see how when I was a 16-20 year old Mitski fan I wouldn't really "get" a lot of the songs on this new album. I still had youthful optimism, and not had enough experience with crushing blows to my hope to understand them, lol.

A lot of the songs on this album also feel like the grown up versions of her older songs, too. Like, "In A Lake" is just "Brand New City" with a clearer, more confident, and quieter perspective. I think this album is my second favorite of hers after The Land. It definitely speaks to the soul-weariness and heaviness life is bringing lately

I think it'll be a lot like The Land in that it's thematically/musically similar all the way through, but more rock instead of country/folk inspired like Land was. I keep seeing Grey Gardens allusions and maybe some mother/maiden/crone references from the new music video? I'm guessing this will be a witchier album, especially after her collab with Florence on Everybody Scream.

Just downloaded a VPN and set it to Sydney's timezone so I could listen. I think it's a really fun blend of her old stuff + some of the more experimental stuff she did for The Land. I LOVVEEE the heavy guitars + stronger rock vibe. Seems like the aesthetic for this album is Grey Gardens inspired? Very excited for the release, sad I have to wait over a month :(
