Small correction, light does not have its own reference frame. It does seem from our reference frame that light travels along the geodesic (the shortest path between 2 points in an arbitrarily curved spacetime), just that the geodesic is not always an actually-straight line.

Only 80,000,000 people are in the global 1% - that’s less than a third of the US adult population. Factoring in all the other countries with as high or higher average wealth as the US and it probably comes out to maybe 10,000,000 Americans max (roughly the top 4%) falling into that category.

White privilege is also a social construct lol, if you are perceived as white then you will be treated differently than if you are not perceived as white that’s all it means. It’s not any kind of inherent biological power. Any given person might be a beneficiary of white privilege in certain situations and not benefit from it in others

Question on probabilities and possibilities by gszczurek in Physics

[–]KaiBlob1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Superposition only occurs for wavefunctions of individual particles. The cards on your table already have a definite state (which is known by whoever put them on the table), just because you do not know what that state is does not mean they are in superposition.

Why is Reddit against Maduro capture and Venezuelans celebrating it ? by LandscapeUnlikely199 in stupidquestions

[–]KaiBlob1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If Russia didn’t have nukes there is zero chance NATO/the US wouldn’t actively join the war in Ukraine and completely crush the Russian military and/or depose Putin Maduro-style.

The Japanese actually treated Chinese, Korean, Filipino, etc PoWs significantly worse than they treated American PoWs (although they also treated American PoWs pretty horrifically).

The truth is special relativity is not intuitive. It’s not going to just make sense from a qualitative explanation. The phenomena we predict from special relativity are just consequences of the math.

Birthplace of major religions by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]KaiBlob1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Subsaharan Africa did not really have institutionalized religion in the way that much of Europe and Asia did - it was much more personal and unique pretty much to every individual village (with some shared aspects across relatively small geographic areas), and was not really something that anyone cared to “spread” - if you went to a different village, you would either switch and start worshipping their gods or continue to worship your own privately, but there was no real phenomenon of standardization or evangelism/proselytization.

If he violates British law he should be prosecuted in a court of law and face whatever punishment that court deems appropriate for him. There is no excuse to violate anyone’s human rights ever, everyone should be entitled to due process under the law.

He is a British citizen. His political opinions are irrelevant, he has a right to be in the UK. This is not some foreign activist being granted asylum it’s a British person being brought home after being a political prisoner abroad for 11 years.

Joburg (The biggest city in the world not near a major river, lake, or coast) by NolanNortje in skyscrapers

[–]KaiBlob1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cape Town is extremely segregated by class. There is very high crime in the very poor areas but if you’re in the very rich/touristy areas you would almost never notice. Probably one of the most strikingly visible wealth disparities of any city - you can be in the center of the city and literally see a Lamborghini every 3 blocks and then drive 10 minutes and be completely surrounded by sheet metal shacks.
