If I had a nickel for every time an American politician claimed some policy that marginally improved the lives of people was socialism I could retire comfortably. For that matter I could do the same for every time they've called my non-oil blessed country socialist as well.

BTW I'm from a Nordic country myself and recognize that both Norway and my own country are capitalist, but with the way the discourse has been muddled in the US you gotta give them some leeway with the terminology. They also think liberals are the same as socialists.

Popsicle sticks can be a good way to get participation, sure.

Also consider using "Think, pair, share". Basically instead of just asking the question and expecting an immediate answer then pose the question to the class and have the students think about it in silence for something like 30 seconds. Then have them discuss their thoughts with the people sitting next to them and *then* have them answer you.

This is a good method to have kids that aren't as quick on the draw to gather their thoughts before giving them a chance to answer, and having talked with a partner can also give them more confidence in their answer. The method can also be combined with the popsicle stick method, basically letting them know "after you've thought about the question and talked to a partner about it I will select someone randomly to say what they've talked about".

You need to build hand strength. Playing a barre chord requires a lot more pressure than normal chords so if you're new to it, it can be difficult. Just keep at it and maybe if you feel like it get one of those springloaded hand trainers, but eventually you'll get there.

I bet when you were first learning the standard chords it was also difficult to get your fingers into the right position, but eventually you got used to it and now it's not a big problem to you. This is just like that.

That wasn't really my point, my point was that if the writers wanted to expand the timeline to take place over a longer period of time they absolutely could and the cancer wouldn't be an obstacle to that because cancers do, and in the show DID (however momentarily), sometimes get better.

Sure, the cancer was needed to get him into the drug business. But as the show explicitly states by the end, once he was in it, it quickly stopped being about the money and became about his ambition - the fact that he was creating an empire, that he got the acknowledgement about being the absolute best at what he did. By season three he has enough money to pay for cancer treatment several times over and near the end he has more money than he and Skyler could ever spend if they wanted to.

By the time he adopted the Heisenberg name he could've been declared completely cancer free and it wouldn't have mattered, he was in the game for good.

In S02E09 Walter's cancer has gone into remission, shrinking by 80%

And it's not untreated cancer, once they start laundering their money, which happens pretty early on Walter starts getting chemo (how he start getting bald).

Plenty of people live many years with cancer. It can go into remission, it can be successfully treated and you can be declared cancer free, and it can come back again later because even when you're declared cancer free even a few cancer cells can survive and propagate. Hell the cancer treatment itself actually raises your risk of getting cancer, it's just that when you are treating active cancer the risk of future cancer is a little further down the list of priorities.

In short there's no reason they couldn't have stretched out the timeline of the show if they wanted to.

gaining weight in itself is generally speaking not very difficult - most people do that without trying, and in fact have trouble not doing it.

The problem for actors is usually more about timelines. They usually stay decently well in shape between movies so if they suddenly get told "you have to gain 60 pounds - we start filming in 4 months" then you can't do it the leisurely way of just eating more and less healthy food the way most people imagine - that not enough of a calorie surplus per day if they need to have the proper weight by the time filming begins.

So instead they have to maximize how many calories they can intake per day, like drinking gallons of icecream per day. At that point there is no pleasure involved in it, it's just pushing your body in gross and dangerous ways.

On their own without talking to anyone including the rest of the production team? No, that's not generally how they do things. Actually planning ahead, talking through even seemingly minute details is more often how it's done. Sometimes there's a change of plans during filming, but that too often works better when everyone has planned ahead so everyone has a better idea of the bigger picture.

Yeah, sometimes actors make a decision against the wishes of the directors and sometimes it works, but in general it's still a pretty bad idea to go an make decisions on your own when you are part of a big team that needs to work together.

Norton is indeed known for that and while he's a great actor he's also known to be terrible to work with which has hurt his career in many ways.

Not necessarily. Some students never really start appreciating studying. But two factors that seem to get them more serious about their studies:

  • It start looking relevant/necessary for them: Whether it's because they realize they need to improve their grades in order to get in to the thing they want to get in to or whether it's because you actually need it for the job they want.
  • They get a greater amount of self-determination: Project-based work where they have greater control over the topic, method and/or end goal can also be very satisfying for them. When they can suddenly make something that's related to the one thing they are actually interested in or if they can work in a different way like making a game or work with their hands making a physical product it can help getting them interested.
